Anyone heard about a new show called 'Alcatraz'

Made by the Lost guys and has Hurley as the lead character.

Alcatraz follows Rebecca Madsen, a police officer (Sarah Jones), and Dr. Diego Soto (Jorge Garcia), a "hippy geek" who is the world's foremost expert on Alcatraz. Both will investigate the reappearance of twenty wardens and prisoners of Alcatraz in modern day, after their mysterious disappearance fifty years ago.[2]

Looking forward to checking that out.

Yeah quite a few of us watched it back in November/December.

Personally I thought it started great but then ended very anticlimactically and was all a bit meh in the end. This view seems to be pretty universal among the other posters who watched it.

Yeah a 13 episode seconded season has been commisioned, starting in the fall I believe, maybe on Halloween again.

Strike Back was pretty decent, there were only 6 episodes so I watched them all this evening. For me the trouble with 6 episode long series is you never really get chance to get into the show before its over.

Still it was good, think it would've been better if it was Americanised with the CIA as opposed to MI6, in the same way I think an American CIA James Bond would be better.

It's pretty formulaic but the quickfire dialogue is really funny. The only gripe I had with the show was the characters weren't being developed in terms of their personal lives but that's changed over the past three seasons. I reckon it's more watchable if you can empathise with the characters.

Camelot was not as awful as I thought it would be, but still seemed a pointless venture. There have been better versions of the story before and this really added nothing.

The acting was pretty bad, including James Purefoy and Eva Green, who are usually decent even if the film/programme is bad. Joseph Fiennes was expectedly bad as always. His Merlin just seems to make funny faces and is completely uninteresting for a supposedly magical lead character. The sex and swearing just for the sake of sex and swearing is pretty hilarious.

If you take it as a live-action throwaway saturday morning cartoon (with some sex, violence and swearing thrown in) though, it's stupidly enjoyable enough. Unless it improves, of course.

Anyone here seen Angry Boys on BBC3?

I know, the BBC3 bit would normally put me off, but this is a HBO co-production. I'd heard some good things about it, and caught the first few episodes when they were re-running them. It's one of the best mockumentary style comedies I've seen in a while. It has a slow-burning, subtle (despite the swearing) style that fans of Spinal Tap/A Mighty Wind should enjoy. Not all the segments are brilliant, but it's worth watching if you like non-PC, excruciating humour.

I'm sure Sky will poach the next series.

Anyone seen The Borgias on Sky Atlantic? Is it any good or mostly just a sensationalist, shallow rompfest like The Tudors or Rome?

I've been watching The Borgias. It's very good I think, definitely not shallow. In fact I can't think of too many 'romps' really. However I am mainly in to it because of Assassin's Creed.

I guess the problem for it though is, it's coming off the back of Game of Thrones being shown over here and whilst The Borgias has the historical perspective to it (and might have actually been filmed before GoT), the intrigue in it is fairly similar.

When's game of thrones back on, anyone?

Is this the Borgias series as made about 20 years ago? That was a good series.

Nah, it's a remake I suppose. Although like Game of Thrones (and possibly the original series you mention) it's generally with an English speaking/English born main cast - Jeremy Irons is in it for example.
