Game hasn't been played yet. We might not lose. Could be a stale 0-0 from two teams out of form. A player could get sent off to change the game. An awful ref could be the decider. Theo might not start.

Johan Djourou admits Arsenal are out for revenge in Sunday's Premier League showdown with Manchester United at Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners were beaten 8-2 at Old Trafford in August, the low point of a difficult start to the season.

Arsenal have lost their last two Premier League games, away at Fulham and Swansea, but Djourou is thinking positive.

"It's a fantastic game for us after Swansea which was difficult to swallow," the Switzerland international defender told The Sun.

Important
"It will be a bounce-back game. We have to turn up, we have the away game still in our minds so there is revenge to take.

"We have to keep working hard to try to improve."

Arsenal currently sit four points outside of the top four and in danger of not qualifying for the Champions League after 14 straight seasons in Europe's premier club competition.

"We have to fight to get in the top four," added Djourou. "It will be a difficult task but there is a long way to go."

Yes, it's urgent he shut the fuck up. Is this guy totally detached from reality? Or is his skin so thick (or his brain so thick) he doesn't realise how much it pisses off the fans to hear this shit over and over in the newspapers only to have the exact reverse unfold on the pitch?

That said, he isn't a good defender and I really hope Vermaelen is fit and Miquel plays at RB and not Djourou. Miquel seems a lot calmer than Djourou.

Arsenal have over the last few years raised it for the 'big' games (even though they're not as big as they used to be, for us at least). That 8-2, we were unlucky. Rooney scored 2 free kicks in one match which he'll never do again. Young scored 2 great goals which he hasnt done before or since. First goal we conceded was a Djourou mistake. Take those 5 goals away and we lose only 3-2

Attack, attack, attack
Expect an entertaining encounter at the Emirates, says Jamie

The last time Arsenal and Manchester United met there were 10 goals. There's no way we'll see a repeat of that, but it's another game where I expect the attacks to come out on top, even if the stats suggest that won't be the case.

Arsenal's record at the Emirates this season is excellent. Their only defeat came against Liverpool early on and they've conceded just six goals in total.

United, meanwhile, have scored 19 goals on the road compared to the 33 they've got at Old Trafford, so there's an argument to say that this could finish 1-0 to either team, but I just can't see that happening.
Van Persie and Carrick: will be battling it out at the Emirates

Van Persie and Carrick: will be battling it out at the Emirates

Both defences are missing key men and neither has looked rock solid in recent weeks. The Arsenal back four did not look comfortable at all at Swansea, but I have a certain amount of sympathy for Arsene Wenger.

Thomas Vermaelen has been a huge loss for them at centre-back and they've really struggled with the amount of injuries they've had in both full-back positions. They've had to fill the gaps by playing centre-backs in those positions like Ignasi Miquel and Johan Djourou, which isn't ideal.

But it's still no excuse for how poorly they've been defending, especially away from home. Liverpool won four trophies back in 2001, including the FA Cup and the UEFA Cup, playing with four centre-backs.

Jamie Carragher and Markus Babbel played left and right-back respectively that season, so I can understand if Djourou and Miquel were a bit lacking going forward, but they certainly should be defending better.

And when you're a team like Arsenal and you've conceded more goals away from home than any other team, well that tells you everything you need to know.
Boost

There's a chance that Vermaelen will be back for Sunday, which will be a huge boost. The only question is will Arsene Wenger play him at left-back or at centre-back?

There's obviously an argument for both, but personally I'd stick him back at centre-back in place of Per Mertesacker.

Arsenal look a different team when Vermaelen's at the heart of defence, while Mertesacker has really struggled to find his feet in the Premier League. He looks really uncomfortable and his movement just doesn't look right to me.

The problem Arsene Wenger has is that Miquel has struggled as well. He's a young lad and I hope he turns into a good player, but at the moment he looks a bit lightweight. Premier League football is hard enough when you're playing in natural position, but he's overexposed at the moment and I'm sure Sir Alex Ferguson will be looking at that.

As far back as I can remember United have always played with wingers who stretch the pitch and attack the oppositions full-backs and I'm sure he will have looked at Djourou and Miquel and thought that's where he can hurt them.

Whoever plays in the wide areas - whether it's Nani, Antonio Valencia or Ji-Sung Park - will be too powerful for them. And it's not just United's wide men that will cause you problems; it's their full-backs too.

I can see this being a high scoring game for both teams though. United really miss Nemanja Vidic and with Robin van Persie in the kind of form he's in, I can see Arsenal scoring as well.

So Wenger will go with:

---------------Szczesny--------------

Miquel---Koscielny--Mertesacker--Djourou

-------Ramsey---Song---Rosicky-------

Walcott-------Van Persie-------Arshavin

Fullbacks are getting destroyed. Especially Djourou. And...as usual...it's hard to see where our goals are coming from unless Van Persie doesn't score a hat-trick.

Wouldn't surprise me if we lost. Wouldn't surprise me if we drew. Wouldn't surprise me if we won.

Forget about a result, the big question is how many players we'll actually have left by kick-off on Sunday.

In addition to being our best player this season, Koscielny (aside from one or two games last season) has stayed fit too.

It's quite the achievement to be a regular player for Arsenal and stay fit for extended periods, so well done Koscielny.

Song is the only other regular to survive life-threatening "two to three weeks out" warnings, but has still had periods of injury. Actually, Arshavin too, but he might as well have been on the treatment table.

Arsenal: where you go to become a crock.

In years gone by, I would have been much more confident of Manchester United going to the Emirates Stadium and not being beaten.

I think they will be very much thinking that they need to avoid defeat rather than going for a win - Sir Alex Ferguson plays 4-3-3 wherever possible but they will probably be more like 4-5-1 here.

Ferguson recognises that, sometimes, you have to settle for a draw against the other big teams and I think he will be of the opinion that 'we don't get beat'.

After last week's defeat by Swansea, and the way they conceded goals in Wales, I think Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger will be thinking the same.

Both sides have got defensive problems but I've got a funny feeling that this might end up being nil-nil, although that doesn't happen often with either of these sides.

There definitely won't be 10 goals in this game, like there were at Old Trafford in August. I was at that game and it was a one-off - it was never an 8-2.

That was an Arsenal team which was absolutely at their lowest point of the season and they have got much stronger since then. United, you would argue, haven't - they have got weaker.

Prediction 0-0

Uh oh, making stuff up to try to prove a pointless point. You're naughty. I said Jenks did brilliantly as an inexperienced kid thrown in at the deep end. And he did. I also said he was a better winger than Walcott and obviously that's true, even though he's never played there.

Personally for me RvP has been the player of the season so far, but Kos has been our best defender by a distance. He just has. Maybe because TV's season is injury disrputed again, maybe because Merts is settling in, maybe because all our fullbacks are dead. But even so, he's put in a string of solid performances and given 100% every match. Can't ask for more, he's done exceptionally well especially when compared to last season.

Agree with the tosser for once. I have a feeling it will be a horribly dull 0-0 with nothing happening in the whole game except Rooney mouthing off to the ref from the first minute right through to the 112th.

Provided the ref keeps his nose out. If Dean is on form the score could be anything.

I know our ground isn't exactly 'Anfield on a European night' but home advantage does count for a fair bit. We won't get absolutely battered even if we lose. I genuinely think we're just as likely to win this game as lose it, with a draw being the most likely outcome. But we'll see.

Really need Ramsey to step it up and put in a 'Wilshere vs Barca' type performance. Need a bit of passion from the lad. Some cojones. A bit of grit. Some courage. Determination. Inspiration. Three lions. Beans on toast. The queen. The ceremony and the pomp.

Arsène Wenger concedes that the Premier League may be stuck with Sir Alex Ferguson and himself for a long time yet.

The duo share over 40 years of experience at the highest level in English football, enjoying their 25th and 15th-year anniversaries respectively this season.

The rivalry between the pair has always been respectfully fierce, something Wenger does not see changing any time soon.

“He [Ferguson] will manage until he dies and I think he will be 100,” joked the Frenchman. “I only said that [I have the same hunger] because I'm very polite!

"My motivation is to beat him. To last the longest is not a record. Of course I will never beat his record. But to win the game on Sunday is my motivation.

"We have to consider that we are in a job where we need our physical strength and health. That weakens, I've heard, the older you get.”

The time will eventually arrive to step down, says Wenger - even if he does not quite know when or in what capacity just yet.

“I don’t stay sane!” he said. “It is a life where you need to take a certain distance from the immediate emotional aspect of the game and you learn that with experience. You have to be involved emotionally because it is part of your job.

"I can’t imagine [me retiring] but it will happen. I will never retire completely. I will maybe do a different job, not every day out there with the football team. But I will work, that's for sure.”

I wonder if Man U will play 4-4-2 or 4-3-3 against us? Our possession play is so sloppy these and we're playing with no real full backs, they can probably afford to play a 4-4-2 against us. Need to watch their wingers. Djourou and Miquel are in for a rough ride. I hope Arshavin isn't starting if he's playing Miquel there. Heard Verms is fit but also hear he's still injured.

This isn't the strongest Unitee team we've faced and we can come away with a narrow win here. They're not that good. We just need to keep their wingers quiet but that's a tall order with our line up.
