New Lyon (http://www.goal.com/en-gb/teams/france/54/o-lyon) boss Remi Garde (http://www.goal.com/en-gb/people/france/55455/remi-garde) has cited Arsene Wenger (http://www.goal.com/en-gb/people/france/2843/arsene-wenger) and Stoke City (http://www.goal.com/en-gb/teams/england/717/stoke-city) as inspiration for how his team will play.
The 45-year-old Frenchman is keen for his side to combine the never-say-die attitude of Tony Pulis’ men and the flowing game Arsenal play under Wenger.
Garde, who played for the Gunners (http://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/3274/ligue-1/2011/06/30/2554274/lyon-boss-remi-garde-my-team-will-take-inspiration-from#) between 1996 and 1999, has ambitions to win by playing the "beautiful game".
"It’s the alchemy that’s made Arsene Wenger successful: keep the English fighting spirit and have the game flowing and moving,” Garde told Foot01.
“I have other sources of inspiration. I like the will of Stoke City and Birmingham City (http://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/3274/ligue-1/2011/06/30/2554274/lyon-boss-remi-garde-my-team-will-take-inspiration-from#) in terms of desire to give energy and commitment.
“Yes, I am ambitious, as I have said. Everyone in the club is, even if our talk is more cautious.
“I do not think you can win back the public without [positive] results. To play the beautiful game and lose, that’s not my goal.”
The former French international played at Lyon through his youth from 1982, becoming club captain in the process before he left for Strasbourg in 1993.
The defender joined Arsenal on the same day as Patrick Vieira, but unlike the Gunners legend, Garde was always expected to be used as experienced cover.
With age and a persistent knee injury hampering his career, he retired in June 1999 at the London club.
His appointment as manager of Lyon is his first role as head coach, although he has worked over the past few years as a coach and assistant manager at the French club.

Hows that then? Pass, pass, pass, hoof, pass, pass, hoof, get a throw in, chuck it in, and score?

JOE COLE introduced himself to his Lille team-mates at dinner on Friday with a lusty rendition of 'Maybe it's because I'm a Londoner'.

Quite what two Poles, a Brazilian, a couple of Belgians, three Senegalese, a Montenegrin, a Nigerian and a gaggle of bemused Frenchmen made of that is anyone's guess.

But, pretty soon, the only Englishman in the squad hopes to be able to sing it in French, as Camden-born Cole insists he will embrace all aspects of his surprising loan move to France's Lique 1.

The out-of-favour Liverpool star got through the toughest part of this new venture with a 25-minute debut at St Etienne on Saturday, the climax of which was setting up Ludovic Obraniak for the last goal in a 3-1 win.

And 29-year-old Cole said: "I was so nervous, it was completely new.

"If I was making my debut for another English team, I would have known the style and the routines.

"I've learnt 'droit' and 'gauche' to turn right and left. I've also tried to learn 'Man on!' so, yes, I'm enjoying the challenge.

"I sang 'Maybe it's because I'm a Londoner' to the lads on Friday and it got a better reception than at Chelsea. Put it this way, I didn't get pelted with rolls and potatoes!

"On Monday, I am going to download some French and get cracking with that.

"Things are so different. For instance, we've got to clean our own boots and carry our own boots to games here.

"The club gives you a lot of responsibility. There are a lot of things changing and it's a big challenge.

"But every day I go into work, it becomes a little bit more familiar and I think to myself 'Yeah, I'm in the right place here' — the way they play football suits me down to the ground.

"I could have gone to an English club but I just thought it was the right time to try a new challenge in a new country.

"I'm sure there will be some moments when I get the language mixed up but I am trying."

Midfielder Cole was sent off on his Liverpool debut last August so a few mixed-up French verbs is nothing to worry about.

He joked: "Anything less than a red card was always going to be an improvement wasn't it?

"Seriously though, it's been good. The manager wants me to come in slowly. It is a strong squad and he knows what I need.

"He says everything in French at half-time, so I just tried to listen. I didn't think I knew any French but there are a few words I could make out, so it was all good."

Cole's biggest problem was finding a way to watch Match of the Day on Saturday. His first question after helping Lille triumph was to ask how both Liverpool and West Ham had got on.

Clearly, he is not leaving everything English behind but, hopefully, Cole is at last singing from the same song sheet as his manager.

http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/premteams/arsenal/

Hes become a bit shit but fair play to him and trying out a new challenge instead of doing the usual English thing and stay in the comfort zone

No real surprises in the rest of the table. Only Arsenal related news is that old Marvin the Martian has signed a new 4 year contract at Sochaux.

In terms of Europe this season Lille, Lyon and Marseille are at the big table while PSG And Stade Rennais are at the side table (With spurs)

Former Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti has been confirmed as the new coach of Paris Saint-Germain.

The Italian, 52, was announced as manager at a news conference at the Parc des Princes stadium on Friday.

"I think I can do good work here," said Ancelotti. "We have all the conditions to succeed. I am delighted and very enthusiastic about this project."

Antoine Kombouare, who led PSG to the top of the French league, had been sacked by the club just hours earlier.

The French side released a statement saying: "After two years in which he served with passion as PSG coach, Antoine Kombouare has left as of this date.

"PSG would like to thank him for the professionalism he has shown throughout his work and expresses its best wishes for his success in his new endeavours.

His deal with PSG has taken some time to put together, complicated by the fact that 48-year-old Kombouare was not sacked by the club until Friday.

Although Kombouare led PSG to the top of the Ligue 1 table at the winter break, he also oversaw their exit from the Europa League group stage.

The club's Qatari owners have lofty ambitions and are keen to bring high-profile names to the French capital.

Former AC Milan boss Ancelotti could be joined shortly by David Beckham, whom he coached briefly at the Italian club during the former England captain's first loan spell at the San Siro.

PSG are hoping to complete a deal to sign the former England skipper once his contract with Los Angeles Galaxy expires at the end of December.

However, BBC Sport understands Beckham is leaning towards staying in the US with LA Galaxy.

Ancelotti won a league and cup double with Chelsea in his first season in charge before he was sacked at the end of last season despite finishing second in the Premier League.

The Italian was also a two-time Champions League winner during his decade-long spell at Milan.

Qatar Sports Investments bought PSG last summer and their president, Nasser Al-Khelaifi, promised "to make the club a great team and a strong brand on the international scene".

They promptly spent £71.3m to attract new talent, including paying £35.2m to Italian side Palermo for 22-year-old midfielder Javier Pastore.

I know this thread never caught but the best Ligue 1 game in years happened on the weekend where Bordeaux eventually managed to beat Lille 4-5 in the 93rd minute after Nolan Roux had equalised for Lille in the 89th minute.

Also Monty are solidly second now some 10points clear of Lille after the 3-0 drubbing of Ajaccio, PSG could only manage a 0-0 at Nice and brilliantly Lyon lost at home to Caen. :pal:

We shouldn't be serious though. He will leave us in transition in 2-3 years time. But then again we can't count on our English youths after the way they disgraced themselves last night. So in summary, we should sign him.

Our players are an odd bunch. Think the party line yesterday was saying how inspired they were by Chelsea. Even Jesus Horsecock Bacary was at it.

If Vinger pulled Eden Hazzers out of the bag it would be incredible. Send Gervais back the other way.

And.......stop grinning like an eejut. I have to say it was an epic night and quite extraordinary when a ickle team that few had heard of prior to 2 seasons ago can win the title in this league with the ominous shadow of PSG lurking like a big Euro sign.

This is the equivalent of Everton or Stoke winning the premiership with Man citeh as they are now for those who cant fathom it. Yes the players will be sold off in the summer and yes they will go out of the champs league at the first hurdle but it doesn't matter, for one summer the sun shone on a tiny corner of France and some boys in orange and blue

PSG lost 1-2 against Saint Etienne yesterday.

PSG :haha:.

Ibrahimovic was sent off for De Jonging Saint Etienne's keeper Ruffier. :haha:

Marseille went joint top of Ligue 1 today after a 0-2 win at Ajaccio. They have a game in hand as well.

Lyon now a point behind in second after a 5-2 win over Bastia. Malbranque scored a late pel for them. He still exists. Lyon also have a game in hand.

Toulouse could overtake PSG at the top of the table if they get a good win at Bordeaux later.
