View Full Version : [FAULT] Intermittent Performance Issues

All - as you'll no doubt know, we're experiencing some performance issues when using the forum. I'm currently investigating an issue with the server that we use for the forum - which appears to be a bit unhappy!

Please bear with us whilst I look into this and I hope to have things back to normal shortly.

Thanks

You've got a bear with you? :o

The performance issues are ongoing and investigations continue.

This issue has now been escalated to the third-party who own the server and a number of logs have been sent to their specialists for review.

In these troubled times, we are crying out for some leadership. But Letters has sold us down the river and put a bear in charge.

Letters

Awful morals.

Good job on handling the forum though , must be a pain to handle it all when it does spaz out.

Performance has improved and site loading times have returned to an expected level and this will continue to be monitored tomorrow.

LDG, that is a deliberate change rather than a fault... one of the issues we're experiencing is guests using an extreme amount of CPU on the server (by the looks of it, hammering the database with thousands if queries per second).

As such, we've limited the access for guests right down to the bear minimum.

All - performance appears to have re-stabilised and no further issues have been identified. I'm continuing to do some work in the background to identify the root cause of why this happened, so that I may try to prevent this from reoccurring.

Thanks for your patience and lets hope it doesn't happen again!

We appear to be experiencing further performance issues today, with very similar impact to the issues previously.

I am looking into this at present and hope to return service to normal ASAP.

Is the issue with needing to be logged in to view a topic getting fixed, I find it a bit annoying having to login everytime I click on something.

Imagine it's not great for potential new members either.

No, the change has been made to change how guests view the board, removing the amount of things they can do... one of the main problems we experienced was due to how much they could see!

Probably better if they can't read before joining tbh :coffee:

There's a checkbox to leave you logged in. Just do that.

Ok, I have to say though that IMO I don't think many people will join if all they can see is a topic subject, what would make someone join would be the desire to contribute to a discussion (I know there's not many on here )

We have had more people signing up since the change actually.
Have to admit not many have posted but they wouldn't have posted had they not signed up so...
