Who would make it into YOUR all-time Arsenal XI?

Now's your chance to tell us. This summer we'll reveal the Arsenal Dream Team, as voted for by the Arsenal fans.

So who would you pick? Is there room for Ian Wright? Would Kenny Sansom get the nod at left back? Where would you play Cliff Bastin? What is the perfect blend in the centre of midfield?

These are just some of the questions you'll have to consider before you settle on your final XI. When you have, select a player from each of the drop-down menus below and click to submit your team.

We'll reveal the results - position by position - from the week commencing Monday, June 20.

The only players exempt from the Arsenal Dream Team are current members of Arsène Wenger's squad.

And if you're struggling to fit someone into our standard 4-4-2 formation, you'll find the more versatile players crop up in more than one position.

Is this best, or just favourite players?

Wrighty got me supporting Arsenal - didn't like the defensive stuff so much back then (I was like 12.) but when we did score....

I think, this team formation exemplifies Wengers philosophy and the type of footy I enjoy...

It’s time to unveil the Arsenal Dream Team.

This summer we asked the fans to choose their all-time XI and we got a tremendous response. More than 12,000 teams were submitted as supporters all around the world had their say.

There were only two rules: no current players could be included and the formation would be a traditional 4-4-2. That gave the fans a difficult task - how would they fit their favourite players into the side and find the perfect blend?

We’ll reveal the Dream Team position by position, starting today with a goalkeeper who was selected in 80 per cent of the submitted line-ups.

NO 1 DAVID SEAMAN
Goalkeeper
Appearances: 564
Goals: 0

From the moment David Seaman arrived at Arsenal, he was a hit with the Highbury crowd.

The goalkeeper’s sustained excellence saw him become the cornerstone of a rock-solid defence and he’s the obvious candidate between the posts for our all-time Arsenal XI.

The Yorkshireman’s qualities were manifold - he had sharp reflexes, excellent positional sense, great judgement from crosses and bags of courage. Attributes that ensure the Dream Team is in safe hands.

Seaman started his Arsenal career behind the Back Four of Lee Dixon, Nigel Winterburn, Steve Bould and Tony Adams - which kept 24 clean sheets and conceded just 18 goals en route to the 1990/91 League title. It would not be a surprise if some of those stalwarts join the keeper in the all-time XI.

Seaman's heroics were a feature of Arsenal's unprecedented domestic Cup double in 1993 - he saved three penalties in a shoot-out at Millwall in the League Cup – and he was at it again a year later as Parma’s stellar cast of Zola, Brolin and Asprilla were kept at bay in the Final of the European Cup Winners' Cup.

Making crucial saves at vital times is a key characteristic of any world-class custodian and Seaman maintained his fine form under Arsène Wenger as Doubles were secured in 1998 and 2002.

Even when he was apparently on the wane, Seaman’s reflexes and judgment silenced the critics. During the 1,000th appearance of his career, he produced arguably his finest save to deny Sheffield United a late equaliser in the FA Cup Semi-Final at Old Trafford.

It’s moments like this that earned him a place ahead of Bob Wilson and Jack Kelsey. Arsenal’s all-time XI has its No 1.

WHAT THEY SAID
"We all know we're losing a great player but what you maybe don't know about David is that he's a great human being. He was more than a player - he was like a dad to all of us. What we'll miss most is him in the dressing room. It was great for me to have him around. I talked with him a lot after lunch or dinner and that did me good because he knows about football and has had a great career." - Thierry Henry

"People forget but he works hard in training and he gets the reward for that. He is an example of professionalism and a great example for the young goalkeepers.” - Arsène Wenger

NO 2 LEE DIXON
Right back
Appearances: 619
Goals: 28

With four titles, three FA Cups, a League Cup and a European Cup Winners' Cup to his name, Lee Dixon is one of the most decorated footballers in Arsenal's history.

He was also one of the most reliable and that makes him a perfect addition to our Dream Team.

It's rare that a player moves from the lower leagues to a top-four club these days - Carl Jenkinson (http://www.arsenal.com/reserves-youth/players/carl-jenkinson) is the exception not the rule - but that wasn't the case in the 1980s and Dixon made the leap with distinction. Signed from Stoke by George Graham, he became a vital cog in the defensive machine that helped secure titles in 1989 and 1991.

Dixon was a tough opponent. Though hardly a man-mountain he could tackle fiercely, his positional awareness was second-to-none and he relished a physical battle. Just ask David Ginola - how Dixon would love him to be his direct opponent if our Dream Team ever took to the field.

It wasn't all about defending though. Dixon was an energetic overlapping full-back too, linking up well with David Rocastle, Paul Merson and Freddie Ljungberg at different stages of his Arsenal career. He scored the odd goal too - one screamer at Chelsea springs to mind - and had the guts to take on penalty duties before Ian Wright joined the Club.

Our all-time XI will have plenty of consistent performers but perhaps none as trustworthy as Dixon. He was rarely spectacular but every team needs solidity and pragmatism and the right back showed that in spades over his 619 appearances.

Oh, and if the Arsenal Dream Team ever needed to win by two goals to snatch the league title from, let's say, a Merseyside club, there's no one better for belting an accurate long pass to the centre forward to help set up the decisive goal.

WHAT THEY SAID
"When I first switched to full back I spoke to Lee Dixon because he played in that position for 15 years and knows so much. I wanted to know about the movement that is needed and the positions that you have to take up and he was really helpful. Whenever I asked him for advice he would talk to me and help me." - Lauren, who succeeded Dixon as Arsenal's right back.

"We all know the esteem in which Herbert Chapman is held but I don't think anybody has achieved what Arsène has. He was the inspiration behind the training facilities; his input into the Emirates and the success on the field is just unequalled. And he's a nice bloke as well." - Dixon on Arsène Wenger.

NO 3 NIGEL WINTERBURN
Left back
Appearances: 584
Goals: 12

Nigel Winterburn is the first member of our Dream Team who had a real fight on their hands to earn a place in the starting XI.

David Seaman was a shoo-in for the goalkeeping spot and Lee Dixon comfortably saw off Pat Rice at right back, but Nigel had much stiffer competition. The manner of Ashley Cole's departure in 2006 angered many Arsenal fans but he pushed his predecessor all the way in our summer poll.

Ultimately Nigel pipped the 'Invincible' by 46 per cent to 38 and he is well worth his place in our all-time XI. After all, who on earth would have wanted to face Winterburn at his peak?

Influenced by his childhood admiration for Leeds United and toughened by four years with Wimbledon's 'Crazy Gang', Nigel arrived at the Club in 1987 and replaced a veritable Arsenal legend, Kenny Sansom, within a year.

Like the England international, Nigel loved to get forward and he enjoyed a particularly productive left-flank partnership with Marc Overmars later in his career. His early years were notable for his finest goal in a red and white shirt, a vicious long-range effort against Wimbledon with his (usually) weaker right foot.

Chelsea were other notable victims of Nigel's penchant for spectacular shooting but, of course, the Dream Team's No 3 did his best work at the other end of the pitch. You'd be hard pushed to think of a more tenacious defender, a more determined character and a better tackler than the long-serving left back.

Nigel gave 13 years to Arsenal, won a hatful of medals, never let the Club down and fully deserves this latest accolade. The all-time XI's full backs are firmly in place.

WHAT THEY SAID
"Nigel is a consummate professional and to lose a player who has dedicated 13 years of outstanding service to this club is a great loss. In an age where many players are eager to move from one club to another, Nigel has shown remarkable commitment to us. Nigel is a special character and I have to say that I, and undoubtedly the fans, did not want him to leave." - Arsène Wenger in 2000

"There is a tradition that comes with playing for Arsenal and that always drove me on to play my very best. The like of Tony Adams, Steve Bould and Lee Dixon were winners who knew what it meant to play for the club, knew what it took to be successful." - Nigel on his commitment to the Club

NO 5 TONY ADAMS
Defender
Appearances: 669
Goals: 48

Fourteen years as captain, 669 appearances and 10 major trophies, including League titles in three different decades. It's no surprise that 'Mr. Arsenal' himself has made it into our all-time XI.

Adams was the ultimate one-club man and a rock at the heart of Arsenal's defence. He thrived as the leader of the famous Back Four, developing an instinctive understanding with Steve Bould and Dream Team full-backs Lee Dixon and Nigel Winterburn.

On an individual level, it's hard to think of a more committed, more gutsy and more inspirational footballer in Arsenal's history.

Technically, Adams was a supreme defender - the timing of his tackles, his reading of the game and his aerial ability just some of the qualities he showcased in a regular basis.

Add to that his insatiable appetite for a battle, his mental and physical resilience, his desire and, of course, his leadership, and it's easy to see why Adams has been selected by the fans.

Whereas George Graham favoured a more direct style, Arsène Wenger encouraged Adams to be more expansive. He flourished, showing more poise in possession, initiating attacks from the back and even getting forward when he could.

His transformation under the Frenchman is a tribute to Adams’ quality and adaptability and underlines why he is the perfect candidate - and dare we say captain - for the Arsenal Dream Team.

WHAT THEY SAID
“I never really saw him play because I was too young but from what people say he was amazing and everybody says amazing things about him. Hopefully one day - not so much be like him, because I like to be my own player and person - but of course I want to achieve the things that he achieved.” - Cesc Fabregas (http://www.arsenal.com/first-team/players/cesc-fabregas)

NO 5 SOL CAMPBELL
Defender
Appearances: 211
Goals: 12

Rarely has an Arsenal defensive duo shown the physical and mental strength of Sol Campbell and Tony Adams so it’s fitting that the pair will resume their partnership in our all-time XI.

During his first season at the Club, having crossed the North London divide from Tottenham, Campbell thrived alongside the outward-bound Adams at the heart of the Arsenal back four.

The Dream Team now has two inspirational leaders, who captained both club and country, as the bedrock of the side.

After that short trip down the Seven Sisters Road, Campbell grew into one of the game’s finest centre backs. He was impregnable at times, even when he made a daunting return to White Hart Lane with his new club for the first time.

Campbell was strong but he was also athletic. His bludgeoning power and fearsome frame worked in tandem with fast-moving feet. And there was, strangely for a man of his build, serenity in the way he carried himself too.

He was never willing to throw in the towel and often appeared visibly hurt in defeat - characteristics that endeared him to the fans and earned him a place ahead of Martin Keown, David O’Leary and Steve Bould in the Dream Team.

A ‘super rock’ according to Arsène Wenger, Campbell was a lynchpin in the ‘Invincibles’ side of 2003/04, a campaign in which the Gunners conceded just 26 goals.

His resoluteness, alongside Adams, Nigel Winterburn and Lee Dixon, make our all-time XI’s back four a frightening prospect for even the most potent of strikeforces.

WHAT THEY SAID
"Sol was at the heart of our defence and he will take away with him many fantastic memories, which he richly deserves. I would like to thank Sol for his tremendous contribution. His commitment, stature and strength of character have served us remarkably well, both individually and as a team player who captained the side.” - Arsène Wenger, speaking in 2006.

We’ll reveal the Dream Team position by position, resuming today with a central midfielder who was selected in 93 per cent of the submitted line-ups.

NO 4 PATRICK VIEIRA
Midfielder

From the moment he stepped onto the Highbury turf, you sensed that Patrick Vieira would be something special.

The 20-year-old became the hub of the Arsenal side, was pivotal to the early success of Arsène Wenger's era and gives our Dream Team a world-class powerhouse to kick off its midfield quartet.

It’s hard to fathom now that Vieira was a relative unknown when he arrived alongside Wenger in 1996. He went on to help reinvigorate the Club with two domestic Doubles and an historic unbeaten Premier League campaign.

Under the guidance of his compatriot, Vieira blossomed into one of the world’s finest, a remarkable athlete who could both win the ball and distribute it effectively.

Vieira is a perfect addition to our all-time XI because his graft went hand-in-hand with craft. The composure and quality of his passing means that, as well as quelling the threat of the opposition, he would be a vital cog in our Dream Team machine.

His bite and enthusiasm made him one of Arsenal’s most influential players and, although his goals weren’t frequent, when they did arrive they were invariably spectacular or crucial.

And if the all-time XI are ever up against it, no one will have more passion for the cause than Vieira. Who can forget those infamous battles with Manchester United captain Roy Keane?

Our Dream Team now has its driving force.

WHAT THEY SAID
"I respect hugely what he has done. He was a massive success with Arsenal, is a legend here and will always remain so. I feel I have done well for Patrick in his life, so I am rather proud of what we have achieved together. He has done so well for nine years for us, who has given us nine top, top years? A few players before, but of the foreign players I can only remember Patrick [and Bergkamp].” - Arsène Wenger

"I don't think a lot of players have done what he has done for this Club. He has been a big inspiration for me. He came here when he was 20 and he got the same sort of confidence from the manager. He has won so many things, not just with Arsenal but with France.” - Cesc Fabregas (http://www.arsenal.com/first-team/players/cesc-fabregas), speaking in 2006

Liam Brady is Arsenal's Head of Youth Development, he's 55 years of age, and he's still a pretty decent player. Back in his heyday, he was dynamite.

When Jack Wilshere (http://www.arsenal.com/first-team/players/jack-wilshere) was likened to the Irishman last season, a few eyebrows were raised among the older generations of Arsenal supporters. Not because Jack isn't a wonderful talent - he is - but because Brady was so special for so long.

The Club's fans have seen some prized assets leave down the years but arguably none of those losses were mourned as much as Brady's. Unlike, say, Thierry Henry and Patrick Vieira, the Irishman was at the peak of his powers when he swapped north London for Italy in the summer of 1980.

Put simply, Brady was Arsenal back then. He made 307 appearances, inspired the Gunners to three consecutive FA Cup Finals, was man of the match in the 1979 Wembley win over Manchester United and generally elevated Terry Neill's team from an above-average top-flight side to a serious force in English football.

Brady was the cleverest playmaker of his generation, a man blessed with copious amounts of skill as well as balance, strength, a powerful shot and the ability to glide past opponents. He rarely picked the wrong pass and, for all his brains, he never shirked a challenge. Brady could be spiky as well as spectacular.

Emmanuel Petit was Vieira's regular midfield partner and he received plenty of votes in our poll but the prospect of Vieira and Brady pairing up in an Arsenal Dream Team is a mouthwatering one.
To get the very best out of them you might need a more defensively-minded player in behind but, in our 4-4-2 formation, one would have to stay and cover while the other surged forward.

Together, Brady and Vieira would give our all-time XI's engine room everything it needed. They'd combine force with flair, graft with craft, and every now and then you'd get a goal to savour too.
If you don't believe us, click on the video link above to see what Brady was capable of.

"He is very important to us because he is in charge of the youth set-up here. You know how important that is at Arsenal Football Club so it is vital to keep our structure going." - Arsène Wenger

NO 7 FREDDIE LJUNGBERG
Midfielder

From relative unknown to Dream Team starter, Freddie Ljungberg is living proof that Arsène Wenger can turn apparently innocuous signings into world-class talents.

When Freddie moved to Highbury in 1998 he was best known as the bloke who had caused problems for England in a recent Euro 2000 qualifier. But the not-long-departed Anders Limpar was still the 'Super Swede' that came to mind if you were an Arsenal fan.

That changed pretty quickly.
It took Freddie a matter of minutes to score on his debut as a substitute against Manchester United and he soon garnered a reputation as a man for the big occasion. But for Michael Owen he would have scored the winner at the 2001 FA Cup Final and he announced himself on the European stage with a brace against Juventus.

By the start of 2002 Freddie was much-loved; within months he was worshipped.
A serious knee injury ruled Robert Pires out of that year's run-in but for Freddie it was serendipitous. He shouldered a heavier burden in the Frenchman's absence and scored six times in five games to help deliver the title, capping it all with a sublime strike to secure the FA Cup against Chelsea.

Freddie was the centre of attention in Cardiff - the streak of red in his hair had been copied by countless Gooners and his famous chant (to the tune of 'Can't Take My Eyes Off You') echoed around the Millennium Stadium and the pubs and clubs that surrounded it.

He would be a popular man among his Dream Team-mates too. Freddie's tireless running and tenacious tackling would add ballast to the midfield and give the likes of Liam Brady greater licence to get forward while Lee Dixon would certainly enjoy the protection Freddie offers on the right.

The all-time XI would be guaranteed goals from that flank too, especially if a certain Dutchman was up front to pick out Freddie's trademark runs from deep.
We'll find out soon enough if that classic partnership will be rekindled.

NO 11 ROBERT PIRES
Midfielder
Appearances: 284
Goals: 84

He’s been assigned the No 11 in our Dream Team – the traditional shirt for a left winger – but, like Liam Brady and David Rocastle before, Robert Pires made the No 7 shirt famous at Highbury.

The Frenchman only truly ‘arrived’ on the tragic day ‘Rocky’ died, scoring the opener in the North London derby win over Spurs on March 31, 2001. He never looked back from that bittersweet occasion.

Like his Dream Team-mate on the other flank, Freddie Ljungberg, Pires could time his runs into the penalty area to perfection.

But unlike Ljungberg, he arrived at Arsenal with some pedigree - he had been part of the all-conquering French team of 1998 and 2000. And it wasn’t long before he became a fearsome proposition for club defences across Europe.

Pires was a revelation, another shrewd bit of transfer dealing from Arsène Wenger, boasting a playmaker’s vision and a striker’s instinct in equal measure.

To further endear himself to the fans he scored eight times in 12 games against Tottenham and was never on the losing side in a local derby. In fact there was only one game at White Hart Lane in which Pires played that he didn’t score, and that was his first derby in 2000.

Our Dream Team is packed full of players who have brought success to the Club and Pires’ footprints are all over the ‘Invincibles’ campaign of 2003/04. With Pires and Thierry Henry in tandem, Arsenal were unplayable at times.

It would be no surprise to see them reunited at the sharp end of our all-time XI.

NO 10 DENNIS BERGKAMP
Striker
Appearances: 423
Goals: 120

No one would be more heartened by the appearance of Dennis Bergkamp in the Arsenal Dream Team than the other members of our all-time XI.

That's because the Dutch master was the ultimate players' player, a man whose touch, awareness and vision made life a whole lot easier for those around him. Ask pretty much all his peers for their No 1 team-mate and they would name Dennis without hesitation. He really was that good.

If our Dream Team ever became reality, Lee Dixon and Nigel Winterburn could look up and know that Dennis would be finding space to receive a pass to feet. Freddie Ljungberg and Robert Pires could time their runs into the box, knowing that Dennis would hold the ball up and release it at the opportune moment. And his strike partner - whoever that might be - could spin off the shoulder of the last defender knowing that a through-ball would be heading his way.

Dennis' team play was imperious and if he wasn't picking passes or laying chances on a plate for others he would be converting them himself, usually with a measure of style.

So many of the 120 goals he scored in an Arsenal shirt were special: the outrageous spin at Newcastle, the balletic poise at Leicester, the belter against Bolton, the lob against Leverkusen… the list goes on and on.

According to the fans who voted in our Gunners' Greatest Goals poll in 2009, Dennis can lay claim to two of the best four strikes in the Club's history. So it's no surprise to see him feature so strongly in this summer's vote - he was named in 82 per cent of the teams submitted.

Dennis' arrival at Highbury in 1995 signalled a shift from 'Boring Boring Arsenal' to 'Scoring Scoring Arsenal', his signing a statement of intent and the catalyst for a new era of success. Arsène Wenger later claimed that the Dutchman's presence was "a blessing, a gift when I arrived".

How the Frenchman would love to manage this Bergkamp-inspired Dream Team.

WHAT THEY SAID
“He has intelligence and class. Class is, of course, most of the time linked to what you can do with the ball, but the intelligence makes you use the technique in an efficient way. It's like somebody who has a big vocabulary so he can talk intelligently, and that's what Dennis is all about. What he does, there's always a head and always a brain. And his technique allows him to do what he sees." - Arsène Wenger

Appearances: 370
Goals: 226

Let’s be honest: Thierry Henry’s place in our Dream Team was never in doubt.

The Frenchman had everything: exquisite technique, searing pace, surprising strength, awareness of others and a lethal touch in front of goal. In his prime, he was unstoppable.

And like the typical superstar, of which there are many in our all-time XI, he did pretty much everything for his team. Henry was the captain, the talisman, the dead-ball expert, the penalty-taker and the assist-maker.

Arsène Wenger transformed Thierry from erratic winger into striker extraordinaire. Within a year of his move from Juventus and his change of position, he was considered a leading European striker. Before long he was regarded as the world’s finest.

During his time at Arsenal, Thierry became the Club's all-time top scorer with 226 goals from 370 appearances. Thumping drives, delicate chips, jinking runs, audacious backheels, even the odd header - Thierry had a multitude of ways to find the net.

He was also an integral part of the 2003/04 ‘Invincibles’, won the Premier League twice, the FA Cup twice, the Premier League 'Golden Boot' four times, was voted the PFA Player of the Year twice and the FWA Player of the Year on three occasions.

He could always be relied on for moments of individual brilliance but Thierry was on the same wavelength as his team-mates too. He and Robert Pires were verging on telepathic while his understanding with Dennis Bergkamp could cut even the meanest of defences to ribbons.

Put simply, Henry was a manager’s dream.

And with that, the Arsenal Dream Team is complete.
