There's very little to be optimistic about at the moment. Still, WBA aren't great tbh and if we play at our best we could scrape a win (although I don't think we've performed anywhere near 100% this season and aren't going to start on Saturday given our current form).

Well Gervinho has played himself well into contention after Tuesday, he's really mastered the running into a blind alley and getting tackled manouvre.

I'd go with Cazorla and the Ox on wings, with Rosicky back in the middle.

However I think one of Gev or Ramsey will start, which makes me sad.

Comfortable first half. Had a couple of other chances that probably should've been put away (in the first few mins by Gervinho and the Wilshere slide later on). A lot better pressing in this game and the passing has been a bit quicker after the confidence of having scored the first goal. Nothing much to worry about defensively.

Cazorla is going to get the full dirty, cheating foreigner treatment from now on. :rose:

However, the match was ok, actually missed guilt-edged chances which is encouraging given that means we've created something.

Any confidence knocked from this match could be the final blow, given we're actually doing what we should be.

Joker
08-12-2012, 03:55 PM
A better performance this week, we're pressing much further up the pitch, closing down with more energy and most EPL teams don't have the technical ability to keep possession under pressure. However, the penalty was really lucky tbf, pretty pathetic dive from Cazorla, and I thought Mertesacker was a bit lucky to escape a handball as well (the foul given against Olson was soft IMO).

Dennis Bendtner
08-12-2012, 03:55 PM
You can't really blame Cazorla for diving. He was just trying to avoid a collision with a 600kg polar bear.

It was a pretty cheap dive, in fairness. Obviously we're not whiter than white but if we want to do our bit, I think Wenger should have little bit word.

But in general I think Cazorla is much more scared of contact than he was in the first few weeks. At the start he was putting up with the kicks but now it seems he is maybe shying away a bit more. Case in point - that spectacular volley from the Oxlade cross. He might well have buried that if he decided to RVP it.

There's definite hypocrisy in the media for sure (Ridgwell's dive a few weeks back got zero coverage, as does the dives of players like Gerrard, Lampard etc). However, it's pretty embarrassing when one of our own takes a dive like that, when there's no contact. I'm not particularly bothered if he exaggerated any contact, but when the defender doesn't even touch you, going down and pretending to be hurt isn't within the spirit of the game.
