First Test starts on Wednesday at Trent Bridge.

I'm predicting 3-1 to England, one of the tests will be drawn I am sure.

Come on England. :scarf:

Graeme Swann regrets the absence of England's premier cheerleader 'Billy the Trumpet' for his home Ashes Test - but has reluctantly accepted the decision to ban musical instruments at Trent Bridge.

Swann describes it as a "shame" Barmy Army trumpeter Billy Cooper will not be allowed to serenade England's Test cricketers in this week's first match of the series.

England and Nottinghamshire off-spinner Swann said: "Personally I think it is a shame.

"I know the whole team are behind Billy, and the Barmy Army are a massive part of the English team."

:pal: :pal: :pal:

Also I read the Ashes will be on Youtube for those in mainland Europe.... or those savvy enough to pretend to be :ninja:

Beefy is going for a 10-0 England win

Chances of that?

Dennis Bendtner
09-07-2013, 10:20 AM
It's tough to give Australia one victory over here with much confidence. But they might win one off the back of their bowling and a couple of days of decent batting. 3-1 sounds about right.

Last time the Ashes was relevant was in 05; since it went off channel 4, it just doesn't seem to be a buzz around it with everyone.

McNamara That Ghost...

I wouldn't say that's the case at all, especially if Australia do actually win the first test.

27-1, Pattinson gets Cook!

Loose drives as ever for England.

Gary in Glasgow, TMS inbox: That was a Starc warning to the Aussie bowlers, stop trying to over Cook your deliveries, patience is the key if they want to get to the Root of England's batting deficiencies. Need to apply this logic to the next batsmen who Trotts out...

Didn't know Coney moved to Scotland.

78-2, Siddle bowls Root!

First time I've seen a batsman get yorked in tests for a long time.

In comes England's best batsman by a country mile.

McNamara That Ghost...
10-07-2013, 11:47 AM
Bowled him! Where has that come from? Peter Siddle changes ends to boost Australia, bowling Joe Root neck and crop with a very full delivery. The hosts were just taking the upper hand and Root was looking very composed in his first outing as an England opener, but Siddle, the hat-trick hero of Brisbane 2006, produces a rozzer of a yorker to bite back.

Brisbane 2010, BBC.

Dennis Bendtner
10-07-2013, 11:51 AM

Big swing for a 28 overs old ball. Aussies must be looking after it well. But then again it's easier to do at the low 80s.

McNamara That Ghost...
10-07-2013, 01:20 PM
Warner is on the field, shame Root got out really.

McNamara That Ghost...

LDG
10-07-2013, 01:45 PM
I know it's a batting pitch, but I still don't get the logic of having a bat first when it was overcast....

We've let them go on the attack in the best conditions the pie chuckers will get all week...

Syn
10-07-2013, 02:09 PM
The pitch will get worse. You can make it worse too. Almost certainly better to bat first in a test match. Runs on the board then keep running on the wicket to scuff it up.

10-07-2013, 02:12 PM
I bow to your superior knowledge

178-5, Siddle gets Bell!

Bell failing in typical fashion. Man I hate that guy.

Syn
10-07-2013, 02:30 PM
That's where twenty20 and too many ODIs are ruining cricket. Batsmen are getting frustrated just because of a few dot balls.

Nasser in The Tight End Zone.

Dennis Bendtner
10-07-2013, 02:37 PM
Ian Bell is a useless cat-looking prick

McNamara That Ghost...
10-07-2013, 02:40 PM
Chief sports writer Tom Fordyce at Trent Bridge

"Ian Bell now averages 21 in 16 Test innings against Australia in England. That's against an overall Test average of over 45."

He'll get his century against Bangladesh in the future and all will be well again.

McNamara That Ghost...
10-07-2013, 02:42 PM
185-6 at tea. Time for the Cook hairdryer, if it exists.

Syn
10-07-2013, 02:42 PM
Solid average - particularly in his recent career. Elegant shotmaker. He has got out but he's in good company today.

Btw, that strongbow advert :haha:

Dennis Bendtner
10-07-2013, 02:43 PM
I only ever see him scoring when the going is easy. He is cricket's answer to Carlos Vela.

England's bowling will have to pull them out of the mire, again.

Syn
10-07-2013, 02:59 PM
I only ever see him scoring when the going is easy. He is cricket's answer to Carlos Vela.

Not true. He always scores against Indian bowlers.

Oh. :(

who else would go in - Compton? Push Root down the order. Would like to see another youngster involved given the recent successes of root and bairstow. Not sure there's another in the pipeline.

I think Pattinson is permanently angry.

Syn
10-07-2013, 03:12 PM
Aggression from Pattinson. Good to see. But it's brave because Broad will remember that.

Syn
10-07-2013, 03:17 PM
So many poor balls. There's not enough patience from either team.

Dennis Bendtner
10-07-2013, 03:23 PM
Victory for Pattinson.

McNamara That Ghost...
10-07-2013, 03:23 PM
213-7, Broad sends it up in to the air. C&B Pattinson.

Decent score for Broad to at least get it moving.

Syn
10-07-2013, 03:25 PM
Wonder if anyone could try to exploit the no-ball rule of 'if he lands behind the line and you slide over, it's ok'.

Wear something with smooth soles on a rainy surface and just look to slide halfway down the wicket and bowl from 10 yards. Legal.

McNamara That Ghost...
10-07-2013, 03:26 PM
Djokovic could probably do it.

Dennis Bendtner
10-07-2013, 03:27 PM
Starc is wayward but he can do that. Beauty.

McNamara That Ghost...
10-07-2013, 03:27 PM
213-8, Starc bowls Bairstow!

Syn

Awful shot. Didn't play with a straight bat. Not enough patience...everyone needs to chill the fuck out.

Syn
10-07-2013, 03:49 PM
I appreciate the 'education' Nassa is giving some of the part-timers that only watch the Ashes, but this is all a little bit too basic. There's only so many ways you can say "Play straight" - though he's giving it a fucking good go.

I like the 'masterclasses' they're going to be showing at the lunch breaks and so on. That teaches everyone something new. Prior's wicket-keeping masterclass was very interesting if anyone saw it. Showed why it's better to take the ball in front of the wickets for runouts.

McNamara That Ghost...
10-07-2013, 03:50 PM

Former Australia paceman Glenn McGrath, BBC Test Match Special

"It's been a funny old day, Shane Watson went very hard at that one, you wonder if the shorter form of the game is making the players play more shots instead of the old Test match watch the ball and build an innings. I think about half the players playing this match have some sort of high score against India...very generous.

Syn
10-07-2013, 04:36 PM
Any match with P.Kumar in shouldn't be counted as a first class match. Paracricket.

The cricinfo commentator said that if Australia make it to the close at 1 down, they'd stand a good chance of winning the game. Not sure what he's more wrong about - the thought that England couldn't just easily even things up with one good session later on...or the fact that Australia had absolutely no chance of making it to the close without their top order being decimated.

Anderson sledging Smith

Credit where it's due, he can't bat or bowl but he's a fantastic fielder.

How dare they not be as good as two of the best players in history.

McNamara That Ghost...

I hope Bumble was joking when he asked if a bloke dressed up with a Viking hat had come from Yorkshire.

And yeah, I think Broad has but he wouldn't open the bowling anyway.

Tbf his tekkers ain't all that. But he's got an eye like Sehwag. This isn't as bad a pitch as these scores would suggest. But it's not exactly a road either. Natural talent - he's seeing it very early and so he seems to have plenty of time.

Well done that man.

As well you know, we have been watching Agar for some time. He has for me an interesting quality.

Will we sign him? We would never say no, yes or maybe to quality players, but we do not talk about individuals. For Agar, it is a possiblity.

GLENN McGRATH Q&A
Q: Did you prepare with homework on how to get the good players out?

A: Nine times out of 10, it was about building pressure by trying to hit the top of off stump. With technology you can watch footage of every batsman and bowler around the world. It means I know my opponent's strengths and weaknesses and they know mine - so really it's about building pressure out in the middle.

As simple as that. Bowl wicket to wicket as stated by the best fast bowler of all time.

All this swing shit is bullshit.

No wonder the likes of Anderson etc are terrible
