Özil giroud Gibbs, Sagna, Ramsey and BFG - all should be omitted from this meaningless cup.

jenkinson, Nacho, TV5, Frimpong, NB23, Gnabry, Park, Ryo, and Eisfied should play and maybe Jack, Cazorla and coscenly

Cazorla defo neeed to play.

It is a wonder that anyone advocates playing any Arsenal player of any importance if this is as meaningless as it seems to be to a lot of our fans....

----------------Fabianski----------------

Jenks------Merkyl------VM8R------Nacho

--------FrimSting--------Wilshere--------

Gnabry----------Rosicky----------Cazorla

-------------Chuba Akpom---------------

I would be inclined to name a strong bench too which included Giroud, Ramsey and Ozil. I don't see the point in naming a weak bench, littered with players who aren't particularly likely to change the game...... or with names of guys who are almost definitely not the future of the club anyway.

I grew tired of Bendtner long ago and I see something in Akpom I like.

Chelsea can play the likes of Mata, Eto.o, Ba, De bryune etc so anything other thana strong team from us will likely end in defeat. Maureen always treats this cup seriously and we know how much he loves beating us and do anything to halt our momentum.

Bumble

I would go in with quite a strong side, still more likely to win this than the league. And winning any trophy can be a spring board to further success. Win this match and one of the big teams are out. We arent going to finish below 4th place and we arent going to win the league, so we should really go for this. We dont want to stop the momentum. We lost to dortmund, palace was a bit squeaky bum at times and if we lose against Chelsea we have Liverpool with two on form strikers. So not exactly guarenteed 3 points.

No Arteta, Flamini could be interesting as Wilshere isnt 100%, so Ramsey will have to play anyway. I would through Ozil in as it would mean another game to build up an understanding with Giroud and Cazorla. Same back four and Chezza. So basically pick a full strength side and once we are 3up then look to substitute. There are plenty of league games in the season when we can rotate players. I dont think a one off cup game is the right time.

Also Pod, Walcott and the ox will return at some point to allow more rest time for others.

Wow Bumble. You are even more adamant we take this seriously than I am!

I do think the league is a priority as a) It is the prime competition we're in and b) I want us to go close enough for Wenger to see that under-preparing the squad was actually unnecessary and that we could have won the damn thing.

Ozil's understanding with the rest needn't be hurried through and I would have reservations about starting Ramsey given that we now know (Wenger has come out and said it) that Jack isn't quite there yet injury wise, Flamini is injured and Arteta is out.

Yeah, he was a yard short (not in height  ) on Saturday, and we need him back to his quickest.

One of our major problems last weekend was the pace we played at. Not entirely sure where things have slowed recently, but it is 90% of the problem, in relation to the dip in performance.

You want Eisfeld and Wilshere to sit and hold against a team like Chelsea? I probably wouldn't be comfortable doing that against Palace never mind Chelsea. Ryo hasn't overly impressed me and Bendtner is just biding time. It still annoys me that a player so publicly adamant he would never play for this club again is lining up for us.

This is a tournament where having a quality squad rather than just a great first team really comes into play in matches between the big clubs. Chelsea are simply much better equipped for tonight. I'll be pleasantly surprised if we win.

Master Splinter
29-10-2013, 06:28 PM
Since the last League Cup game, only Cazorla has returned to the squad. Instead of players returning from injury, Flamini and Feo have since joined the stricken and Gnabry and Eisfeld have decided to pick up knocks too. Even Frimpong has picked up another injury. That was most likely another knock to his brain though, tbf.

Our injury situation just never improves. If we ever have the luxury of a first choice XI again, never mind a fully-fit squad (withstanding Diaby of course), I think the world will cave in on itself.

By contrast, teams with trillion-pound squads like Chelsea and Citeh rarely have any serious, long-term injuries. Well, Kompany aside. Chelsea have only Van Ginkel missing, and he would have been sidelined by Mourinho by now anyway.

Apart from our choice of strikers, our squad is fine. Actually, it's better than fine. As evidenced by our second-choice defence, which looks strangely to be the strongest part of our team at the moment. Our midfield and attacking midfield/wide options are really impressive too. Saying our squad is thin, or whatever cliche the next braindead pundit will use, is factually wrong. In numbers and ability, there's not a huge difference between ours and Chelsea/Citeh's. The only difference is theirs cost loads more. The fact that we always have so many players out exarcebates the myth of Arsenal having LITERALLY no depth.

We should have added to our options up front and in central defence, but what can you do when you have seven first-team players out and even your best young players are dead?

Tl;dr: Injuries are the number one problem at the club. Still.

If we do beat Chelsea today, it will be an outstanding result. If Wilshere, Rosicky and Cazorla play it should give us a real hold of the midfield. Hayden was an absolute scrote against West Brom. He will need to show more than that tonight.

The most important aspect of the game should be to avoid any injury to a first-teamer, especially if Essien is out there targeting the shins of players gliding past him.

Bendtner's so annoying to watch. Giroud would be getting in there challenging for every ball played up there, and winning most of them too. Bendtner doesn't even try to challenge for them, he strolls around throwing his arms up if a pass isn't right to his feet.

Chelsea have been the better team and had more of the ball, but they didn't really threaten our defence. GHELkers has been their best player and he provided a great assist.

We've had a few good moments but the final ball/shot is missing with the players up front.

Rosicky, Ramsey, Monreal and Koscielny have played well. Jenkinson and Wilshere were poor. Cazorla still rusty.

You would have been annoyed if you saw the goal. I knew we would fuck up when I saw the ball bouncing awkwardly just behind our defence. If you're not sure just smash it out.

Not a bad half from us though, but we're a little toothless in the final third with Bendtner and Ryo there.

Not a bad half from us though, but we're a little toothless in the final third with Bendtner and Ryo there. Im slightly indifferent about the result as Wenger doesn't beat mourinho ever so didn't have high expectations but setting the reply I don't understand how we are still gifting the opposition goals from corners. I remember when we use to be the team most dangerous when defending a corner, now we're the ones most likely to concede when taking one

It would be nice to get through but I think we've only got the squad to mount a serious challenge in one competition and that's the league.

I am loathe to talk about this man as a tactical genius, tonight was always going to be problematic against a side that has far more strength in depth than ourselves. And with our squad with a danish half wit backing up our main striker.....the team we put out was always going to be powderpuff because we don't really have any strong defensive midfielders in the side with the exception of flamini and arteta both of whom are unavailable tonight.

Again i don't agree Mourinho is that tactically astute, he is given a lot of money to spend to players that do a job by strangling the life out of the game....he has never been at any club long enough to build a lasting dynasty. I think any one with half a brain could build a side with physical midfielders and defence to contain the play and counter attack sides especially if they are given the cash to do it.
Don't get me wrong Wenger is too stubborn to have any tactical awareness, but Mourinho is not this genius that he is lauded as.

He wins trophies, his teams are hard to beat, he's proven himself noone can question that now. Wenger has gone 8 years without so much as a tin pot trophy, there's no dynasty there either. Would rather he'd have left in 2005.

People might not like him, but his teams always have a certain quality about them, organised, work hard play for each other and hard to break down and beat. His substitutions have also proven to be very good over the years.

Yeah I'm worried too after this game, wasn't far off our 1st 11 and yet we got beaten by their second team. Our form is dropping away at a crucial time, if we'd played some kids today and lost whilst it would have been disappointing at least we'd have kept up the mystique we could match the top teams, this results kinda proves we can't and won't help the players believe we can either.
