The horrible result at Liverpool should surely make the team even more determined to beat United. They'll probably have their best team available (with a Wazza-RVC-Mata front three) but even so, they're not the machine they were under Fergie. Regardless of our spectacular blip at Anfield, we should be looking to get a big win here. We cannot start at 12mph as we have been doing recently. WUMger rarely makes wholesale changes after a bad result, but he surely has to inject some energy into the side and Rosicky and Gibbs are must starts. Maybe even one of Podolski and Gnabry to give us more directness and pace from the off, but Wenget gonna Wenget, most likely.

Szczesny

Sagna
Mertesacker
Koscielny
Gibbs

Arteta
Wilshere
Rosicky

Gnabry
Giroud
Cazorla

Prediction: 1-1 (Mertesacker, RVC).

Come on Arsenal.

Have done well against mid table teams at home this season however obviously after the drubbing today the pressure is really going to be on us. I'll take a win however it comes.

Hopefully Man United win tommorow so they don't feel as pressurised themselves to win in order to remain in the top of half of the league.

2 - 0.

Man City drawing today big relief.

But Chavs starting to look ominous now.

We are still in the mix though.

Way we respond on Wednesday will be the making or breaking of this team.

Hope Wenger will realise and stop fcuking around with the line up.

The fans need to be baying and right behind the the players themselves know they need a performance

No Ozil please, he has been one our worst players of late and needs tu be benched. Great player obviously and on ability alone is probably our best but his work rate, application and general requirements for the PL are lacking at the moment.

Man u will always be Man u against us, whether they are top or 7th and this will be no different. We are playing slow predictable football, we have no width, no pace, no imagination and of all teams to stifle us, these mofos do it better than most.

1-3, RVC, Rooney 2. Arteta pen for us.

I just want to see Wenger react and give some indication he's studied the opposition and attempted to take advantage in the same way maureen did against the gypos and Rodgers did against us. I think the result takes care of itself if that happens. Utd really aren't that good and we've been fine against mid-table teams this season.

even before the liverpool car crash, anything less then a win would be an awful result. even the worst team in the league fulham have got a result at old trafford. we simply have to win. and not just win, but hammer the bastards

Bumble
09-02-2014, 08:57 PM
we wont hammer them, we don't hammer anyone. but I think a comfortable 2-0 will do the trick. defensive stability and efficiency in attack. however if we play like we did on Saturday we will lose, they still have enough individuals to do damage and I cant remember the last time we beat United when it really mattered/ we were above them in the league.

Niall_Quinn

Point being, we won't play like stoke or Fulham. This will be a proper football match, hopefully. You can't just do the Fulham drew with them therefore we'll beat them thing. That's like saying stoke beat them and we beat stoke so just add up the scores and that will be the result.

This won't be a stroll because we need to win which means we can't park eleven behind the ball and hope for a lucky break. Of course we should have enough to win.

Look at their results above, those teams didn't all park the bus, they beat them playing football in some cases, Man U have been poor and are there for the taking.

9 games, 3 wins (one led to them being knocked out of league cup, so not exactly a win) ,1 draw, 5 defeats

Hardly a fearsome record.

Niall_Quinn

Wouldn't argue against the fact they are there for the taking. But don't paint them up as canon fodder.

Özim
10-02-2014, 12:05 AM
I don't think they are cannon fodder for us, for two reasons

1) Our defeat on Saturday - this will whether we like it or not have an impact on confidence, no team concedes five goals and comes out of it unaffected
2) Our mental block against them - we more often than not don't turn up against them and barely create any chances, then one of their strikers pops up and grabs the points

In the end though I don't think you should expect anything other than a win when you're at home against a side who are 7th and in pretty poor form as well, when you're second in the table. I don't think they are much of a side however and if not for the above two reasons, we'd expect to beat them.

I got home yesterday to find the score 2-2 and thought "lol". I thought hold on, if Fulham get a draw against them then we'll definitely get a win but then remember that that logic doesnt work when it comes to us Vs them. Man u re were fucking dire earlier in the season too but somehow, we managed to lose them even though we were top of the league and had won two massive games the week before.

Wenger is scared of Man ure, his record, esp in the last 10 years, is fucking terrible. His team selection for the away game was there for all to see when he played a defensive side and tried to get a draw. Our big players didnt turn up, we barely had a shot on goal and left OT with our heads down affer yet another defeat.

Im not expecting us to win, im hoping we stuff them of course but it just wont happen as long as the manager's approach doesnt change.

I'm not arguing with myself at all, I think we should beat them given the situation of both clubs, I just feel we make it harder for ourselves than we should due to being mentally weak.

I posted their record this year, 3 wins (one was a was in the league cup in which they ended up going out, so not exactly a win), 1 draw and 5 defeats, that speaks for itself.

This. The reality is that Moyes will be happier going into this game than he would be with at least half of the league teams - all the more so on the back of Saturday's humiliation at Anfield. It shouldn't be - but it is indeed hard to call and that says it all about our latent brittleness, I'm afraid.

Well if the City result versus Norwich and the result that the Lord Mourinho's (the greatest manager that ever lived) managed to muster up today against West Brom, doesn't inspire us to let loose tomorrow and really go for it, then I'm not sure what will.

Hopefully these couple of results will spur the fans on to give the team their full backing and act as a 12th man!

Had we got a positive result against Liverpool then id have strongly fancied us tonight but you get the feeling the handbrake may be left on tonight. Arsenal will be cautious and in a way it might help us, utd dont have the same pace as liverpool but they have better quality all round in the final 3rd than liverpool. Mata, Rooney and Van Persie, if they click, will destroy teams. I just hope its not tonight.

I just wish we had pace in the final 3rd because fulham showed on sunday that Vidic is slow and can be got at. Vidic will have Giroud in his pocket though, the type of forward that utd eat up. Its the fast trickery ones they struggle with. I hope he picks the ox and gibbs as they are the only ones with real natural pace. Gnarby too, but he wont start.

I can see it being a draw in a very cagey game but we need to win. A loss and the vultures will be out and i just dont think we will respond. Crucial we dont lose.

Berahino (sp) looked decent yesterday, a winger with pace and top flight experience + English. If we do sell the Pod in the summer the he'd be a decent replacement i feel.

Anyway, my team for tonight would be:

-----------Chensey-----------

Sagna---Mert----Kos-----Gibbs

Rosicky-----Arteta------Jack

Ox-------Giroud---------Santi

I know for a fact that Ozil will play from the start but if it were up to me i'd play Rosicky ahead of him. Rozza iw all about high tempo, pressuring the oppo and driving forward with the ball.

I'd drop Wilshere. There is a lot of talk about Ozil and his defensive work but Wilshere is also very ineffective on defence. He attempted one tackle vs Liverpool and it wasn't successful. Only one interception but because he always looks frustrated and 'passionate' it gives the impression that he's effective. He pushes forward to much as well. It's the same trend if you look back over his last 3 or 4 games in the middle. His numbers are low on tackle attempts and interceptions. We really miss Ramsey. We can't have two non tackling midfielders with just Arteta sitting behind them. Arteta will make 4 or 5 tackles a game so it's not all his fault. The rest need to put in work.

Ramsey has been a big miss. He was scoring goals, creating and getting on the end of chances and his defensive work was also key. Our first goal against Citeh typifies the new Rambo, he pressued Toure in his own half and won the ball off him then squared it to Ozil who set up Theo.

He was also making runs beyond Giroud and popping up in good areas. I know as fans we always pretend that the injured player (s) is the reason for our slump but this time we really do miss Ramsey (and Theo).

Yep most definitely. Without those two we do not look half as good offensively, we have resorted back to this slow posession based "tiki taka". It really isn't necessary, there is still plenty of runners in the team, really we need the likes of Ozil, Santi (who to a degree has) and OX to step up and compensate for the loss of Rambo & Theo.

No, you see that's where you are 100% wrong, Martin Samuel (principle cheerleader) again - the gypos dropped points because they have injuries to Aguero and Fernandino, last night the chavs dropped points because Terry wasn't playing. This really ticks me off NQ.

We never get a pass with the media with our injury list - I never use it as an excuse. But for the past few seasons, how many times have been able to put out a truly first choice team? So few times with such a persistent injury list.

And this season we are missing

1) Our top scorer and main center midfielder
2) Our top scorer and highest assist maker last season
3) Up until recently another striker in Podolski

At all times this season we've had

1) Arteta, Ramsey, Theo, Podolski, Santi all injured.

No one can see how this has an impact.

It really is a credit to see how we've managed to get this far with this list of injuries. Such a shame. If Ramsey and Theo had been fit, we'd have walked the league in my opinion.

That unbeaten season was the last season where we had such great luck with injuries.

Now whether that is a consequence of the different types of players we've acquired or changes in training etc. I don't know. But that's another matter.
