Syn
29-07-2015, 10:26 AM
Right on cue.

LDG
29-07-2015, 11:05 AM
34-3 :scarf:

Come on England. Tank 'em.

Aus 84-5. Anderson 3-15.

LDG
29-07-2015, 01:26 PM
As soon as we get Rogers, we'll skittle the rest for 50-odd.

Syn
29-07-2015, 01:32 PM
World class. Incredible bowler.

Finn's provided good support at the other end. England still have a lot of work to do, the tail will wag. Get them out for under 180 and it's a top effort.

Syn
29-07-2015, 01:47 PM
Good hold by Stokes. More difficult than it looked. Really should've put a fiver on an Anderson 5fer. Knew it'd happen.

On comes Broad to offer some pies.

Syn
29-07-2015, 01:57 PM
Rain. Fuck, guess I better do some work. Done nuffin all day.

LDG
29-07-2015, 01:58 PM
I love it when Mitchell Johnson trudges off.

McNamara That Ghost...
29-07-2015, 02:24 PM

Syn

119-9, Starc goes!!!

Syn
29-07-2015, 02:54 PM
Fantastic from Anderson. Different class.

Last chance for Lyth and Bell at the top order. Will be tough, I suspect Starc will tear England up.

Syn
29-07-2015, 03:51 PM
if Bell scores a hundred, Maccy had said he'll resign as Goonersweb mod. And he will because Bell is still England's best batsman.

Syn
29-07-2015, 04:36 PM
A beautiful Ian Bell cover drive and he moves on to 28 off 24 balls. Maccy is absolutely cacking it. His GW modship is in real danger. Bell is the only batsman worth watching for England. Root gets runs but he doesn't look as good as Bell while getting them. Ozil V Lampard debate tbf. Bell plays the beautiful game.

LDG
29-07-2015, 06:34 PM
Bell went for 53.

England finish the day 133-3

Hopefully we can stick another 200 on the board tomorrow.

McNamara That Ghost...
29-07-2015, 08:48 PM
Bell. :haha:

Never change. And on his homeground.

Still, his 100 against Bangladesh/West Indies/Pakistan will be coming soon.

In more important news;

Aussies. :haha:

England.

LDG

LDG
30-07-2015, 01:28 PM

Syn
30-07-2015, 01:38 PM

Aussies lead by 23 runs.

Should really be over by lunch tomorrow.

Syn
31-07-2015, 02:30 PM
England about to win by 8 wickets. Bell top total run scorer in the match. Two classy fifties from him under pressure. Match ultimately won by Anderson and Finn though.

Probably no Anderson for the rest of the series though - has a brilliant record at Trent Bridge so will be missed by England.

Syn
06-08-2015, 10:14 AM
8 balls into the Australian innings and they've lost 3 wickets.

Don't think so, but you'd going back probably before the Second World War

I remember being off ill from work when Australia were bowled out for 47 against the Saffas, bit of a recovery from 23-9 if I remember ha ha

Hopefully we bat sensibly, no reason for us to go into bat again

That said Bairstow obviously isn't enjoying being at the crease, trying every possible way to get himself out.

Syn
06-08-2015, 05:11 PM
Have seen Bairstow bat a few times now. Fuck knows how he's averaging about 100 in county cricket. An absolute chancer, all bottom hand. But he's on 70 so he's got the job done.

249-3. Should end with a lead of 200. Feel sorry for those buying day 4 tickets.

Herbert_Chapman's_Zombie

Great to have a 200 + run lead end of day one, but I honestly think we need to try and push on (putting in a night watchman is a positive sign that we want to build on this innings).

400+, I'm sure as I can be we won't be batting again.

If Anderson was fit this would've been over in record time. Voges, Neville etc. - there's no real quality in this Aussie line up apart from Smith and Clarke, and they're both struggling for form. You can't let Ben Stokes take three wickets, that's just silly.

LDG
07-08-2015, 09:32 PM
Smith

Come on sin. If you can't bat on anything but a fairweather wicket, you ain't that great.

Much as I'd love to take the piss out of Clarke, I really do rate him. No idea why he's trying to hit everything though.

Syn
08-08-2015, 07:53 AM
His record's too good to ignore - has got runs away at all places. But he does need to prove he can sustain it.

Race for England to win the ashes before football starts. They have until 12.45 to take 3 wickets. And then it's time to laugh at Man Utd or Tottenham (or both).

Herbert_Chapman's_Zombie
08-08-2015, 09:25 AM
I remember the last day of the fifth test at the Oval (which would be ten years ago next month).

Warne and McGrath making me brick it as they tore into us in the morning session (was freshly out of uni so was a jobless bum back then so watching it on channel 4), then taking my then girlfriend back to her place during the afternoon who was in a huff with me for no reason whatsoever (it's called being a woman, she's engaged to some other poor sod now so that's his problem ha ha). Part of me wanted to be apologetic, part of me cared more about whether Pietersen was still at the crease.
And then the farce of the Australians coming out to bat for an over or so which I caught round hers, before the umpires lifting the bales off to end the greatest test series of all time in the most anti climatic way possible.

Won't be the same fanfare this time you'd suspect, given that we've won three ashes series back to back since that time.

It will be sweet though given that they were the huge favourites, and Joe Root and the last stand cameos from our tail Enders aside our batting is abject and has been for about three years now.

McNamara That Ghost...

Apparently, a statement from Cricket Australia is expected shortly. Rumours that Michael Clarke will announce his retirement.

Yeah, that's Sky's commentary.

I thought it would be over within the Morning session, but within fourty minutes and with the addition of only 12 runs.

Was it ten overs or less? Will the celebrating crowd also get their money back?

There's a kid (Sam Curran) who's only just turned 17 for Surrey who bowls 85 mph+ and is taking wickets for Surrey. Should play him in the 5th test. Would be the greatest work experience placement since Oxford showed he had bigger balls than Ramsey and Ozil combined.

3 tests, Sri Lanka 1-0 up atm. Sangakarra's retired. Great player.

I'm going to the Oval tomorrow. There's a protest about the state of cricket at 10 am tomorrow outside the ground. As if any one's going to turn up an hour early for a day of test match cricket lasting 8 hours to observe a 3 minute silence. Idiots.

Strange series, Australia scored more runs and took more wickets than we did

Our batting been a big problem for years, Cook used to be a century making machine but just lost his edge

Inconsistent really....Joe Root player of the series

Lack of real drama in any of the matches.....not one going to a fifth day....is this the way Test Cricket is going?

Test Cricket isn't going any particular way, apart from down. run rates are a bit faster now, and scored a little higher - all to do with flatter pitches and better bats. Shot selection was more important when you couldn't top edge a short ball for six.

Off to the Oval now to watch Surrey in the old benson and hedges. Looking forward to a good knock from sangakarra and good bowling by the curran brothers.

Glos beat Surrey in the RLODC final. Epic match, last over victory from a seemingly impossible situation. Sam Curran is a helluva player. Barely17 years old, bowls like Anderson and bats like Pieterson.
