A New York freelancer has come in for a torrent of abuse on Twitter after dozy Spurs fans mistook her for under-fire manager Andre Villas-Boas. Ashley Van Buren, who goes under the Twitter handle @avb, received a hurl of insults – and even death threats – after Spurs crashed 5-0 at home to Liverpool.

Tottenham fans – demanding the Portuguese be relieved of his duties – tagged @avb in their irate tweets, but rather than simply pointing supporters towards their ridiculous mistake, Van Buren chose to respond to each offender with a lyric from musical theatre.

I do feel a little bit sorry for him. It's hard enough trying to replace your best player, chuck 7 new signings into a team and expect it to fit straight away. It's even harder when some/most/all of those signings aren't even yours. I bet Baldini will still be sitting pretty even though he was actually the one buying them.

Unfortunately for him though the press were always going to be his worst enemy. He replaced 'Arry and worse, he wasn't going to lie down and just accept what they say. And at the same time he doesn't really have the personality of Mourinho to be able to bullshit his way through press conferences. And he has a ginger beard. When he then started to point fingers at the Spurs crowd [who frankly, are morons. You're a cup team; you always have been you probably always will be] he was doomed. It was pretty telling when he was having a go at Ashton that no one backed him up. But it's phenomenally short-sighted. Spend a truck load in the summer, and then spend a truck load getting rid of him.

They're not even doing that badly though. Two horrible results, but still within touching distance of top 4, especially if these new signings do start to gel, still in the CoC and Europa and whatsmore I think he has the best win % of any post-WW2 Spurs manager.

On the other hand, some of his tactics were suicidal. It's a bit of a cliché now, but the high line is ludicrous. Doing it with Dawson is just being stubborn. And he was hardly proactive in our game either.

I guess you can make excuses for Villas-Boas in both his roles here; he was on a hiding to nothing at Chelsea as we all know, but in the end he has been sacked twice and pretty quickly. That might be that for him here for a while.

Spurs need to be careful what they wish for though. Some of them moaning about the boring, defensive football [why does every club now have a "... Way"?] and then advocating Capello

The 43-year-old, whose assistant at Ajax is Arsenal legend Dennis Bergkamp, is in his first managerial role since retiring as a player and the latest title made it four in a row for the former Barcelona and Rangers defender.

Just in case anyone thinks they own property, wrong. It's one of the biggest myths. Even if you have paid the last penny on your mortgage you own nothing and it can be taken from you legally (though not lawfully) whenever the state decides to do so. This is, of course, a criminal act. But the state does not abide by the laws it insists you and I observe under threat of sanctions. Fucking fascists.

The correct procedure would have been for the dodgy corporation concerned to buy land elsewhere and reconstruct the victim's business brick by brick absorbing every last cost, including the cost of advertising the change of address. Instead they have used the court to overwhelm a property owner and rob him of his rights. They will pay compensation for the compulsory purchase (or will they?) but the victim will have this offset by the cost of the court proceedings. The moral of the story, when a corporation comes knocking bend over or you will lose everything.

Tottenham Hotspur get go-ahead to build new 56,000-seater stadium at White Hart Lane after High Court challenge is rejected
Tottenham are planning to redevelop their stadium at a cost of £400million
Local business Archway Steel Metal Works objected to the compulsory purchase order being used to force them out of their Paxton Road site
But now the Metal Works lost their High Court challenge of the order
Spurs now have the go-ahead to build and hope to be finished by 2018
Permission to appeal rejected but Archway could go directly to Court of Appeal judges
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2961502/Tottenham-Hotspur-ahead-build-new-56-000-seater-stadium-White-Hart-Lane-High-Court-challenge-rejected.html

Last November, a mystery fire gutted the Archway premises, which is alongside White Hart Lane's North Stand. The owners also they have received 'bomb threats'.

Mr Justice Dove said the Josif family trustees had been perfectly entitled to 'fight the appropriation of their land at each stage of the process in a legitimate and proper exercise of their rights.'

But the judge added: 'It follows from my conclusions I am satisfied there was no legal flaw in the process and it was in the public interest that this (purchase order) be made.'

The defeated Josif family members left court without making any immediate comment. They have been ordered to pay the Community Secretary's legal costs.

Both Spurs and Haringey Council applied for part of their costs to be paid by Archway, but the judge dismissed their applications.

That part in bold - just how despicable can you get? Not even the judge would sink to their level.

And so what if the "process" was followed correctly? Is the process lawful and moral? That's the question.

I believe we also got up to some interesting shit during the planning stages for the Emirates. This thing about the "public interest", is it really in the public interest to allow corporations to boot people off their land, build big stadiums and then price the majority of the public out of them?

Fucking corporations. They used to be a non-profit collaboration between the state and the people operating entirely in the public interest. Now they are a law unto themselves with more rights than human beings. Sick society.

Not that I "care" that much about what the Spunts get up to, but it would be interesting to see if the new stadium completely fucks them for a few seasons (kind of like us having to sell star players between 06-12 etc.) or if the new TV money means they will not be too effected. Of course you could argue they don't have any star players anyway, but y'know what I mean.

Ideal scenario; they get proper shit like RPQ level, flirt with relegation for 4-5 seasons, & the new stadium is barely half full :pal:

Harry Kane claimed English football has a "weaker mentality" as the Tottenham star hit out at fans having been the subject of social media jibes.

Kane has dominated headlines since successfully appealing Tottenham's second goal against Stoke City last month after it was initially awarded to team-mate Christian Eriksen.

It triggered online criticism, with the England international striker mocked by rival supporters, while the Football Association (FA) published a tweet poking fun at the two-time reigning Premier League Golden Boot winner following Tottenham's 2-1 FA Cup semi-final loss to Manchester United.

In the tweet, which was later deleted as the FA issued an apology, United's Chris Smalling was asked "what's in your pocket?" along with a short video of the defender saying "Harry Kane"

Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino slammed the FA's "embarrassing" tweet and now Kane has had his say, with countryman Dele Alli and Manchester City's Raheem Sterling also criticised throughout the season.

"It is strange, I think it is a mentality thing," Kane said. "It is easier these days to maybe banter England players or take the mick out of England players, if we don't do well in the World Cup it's, 'Oh we told you so'.

"It's maybe a weaker mentality, but it is what it is, as a team we are focused on what we need to do. We have got to go with a mindset and a belief that we can win, we try and win everything we do and the World Cup is no different.

"On social media you can get a few people that don't see eye-to-eye but that is part of fans and opinions.

"Everyone is passionate about their clubs and rightly so but as a nation when it comes to the World Cup the most important thing is the nation, that's what comes first.

"For me personally, I have always engaged with my fans, there are a small minority of fans that maybe go over the mark, but that is life, you can't get too down about it."

Kane added: "The FA tweet was a silly tweet, we all know that. I talked to the gaffer about it and all he was saying was would other countries do that to their own players, probably not.

"It is something that has gone, it was two weeks ago or whatever it was, I am over it. The gaffer [Pochettino] said I was sad, I am focused. I am a guy who gets on with things.

"If it happens, it happens, I move on, I look forward, I look forward to the next game, that's all I worry about, getting out on the pitch and doing my job."

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino wants to discuss his future with chairman Daniel Levy, and says the club must "take risks" to improve.

Spurs beat Leicester 5-4 on Sunday to secure a third successive top-three finish in the Premier League.

But the club have not won a trophy since the League Cup in 2008, and have spent less than their top-six rivals.

"If we want to be real contenders for big, big trophies, we need to review a little," Pochettino said.

"First of all, I need to speak with Daniel, then we will know what we are going to do.

"I think it's a moment the club needs to take risks and if possible work harder than the previous season to be competitive again."

Argentine Pochettino, 46, took over at Spurs in 2014 and has led the club to fifth, third, second and third-placed finishes in his four seasons.

But they have spent £184.59m on players in the past two seasons, less than Manchester City, Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool over the same period.

Pochettino has been linked with a move from the club and following their FA Cup semi-final defeat by Manchester United in April said the club "need more time with me or another".

This season they were knocked out of the Champions League in the last 16 by Juventus.

"I think I have a very clear idea what we need to do; I don't know if the club will be agreeing with me or not," Pochettino said.

"But we are going to talk, next week, to create the new project, or what I think what we need to do, together again, to try to improve.

"That is a little bit up to Daniel of course, to the club, to be happy with us, because after four years I think we need to assess that period.

"I think Daniel is going to listen to me. But you know me and sometimes I have some crazy ideas.

"In this type of situation, with a club with our unbelievable fans, being brave is the most important, and to take risks."

Alli is also out until March.

With Son away as well, that must be what, 90% of their goals in the team gone? Fair play to them if they somehow manage to stay clear of the CL qualification scrap.

No money, new stadium, promising young team and now even a manager who knows he can't compete so instead champions the top 4 trophy.

Sounds familiar.

And 2nd. There is a clue in the name.

True but I think the competition might be too small if they did, I can live with 2nd at least they are generally in the title race, 3rd and 4th not so much, maybe a CL place should automatically go to all 4 CL semi finalists and both Europa finalists.

There's a 3rd competition coming as well, so 2 places for the 2 finalists in that too.

If anything it's Champions League football that induces egos isn't it? Certainly beyond actual achievement.

At least 3rd/4th came with some uncertainty due to having to qualify before - none of that now.

All these players at the end of their contracts is not his fault and it will not change with the new manager.

Do they really want Mourinho ?

Managing on a budget and developing youth is kind of unknown territory with Mourinho - even if he fancies a crack at it, and turns out to be good at it, he’s still got no real pedigree in these areas, so I’m not sure what they’re basing this on?

At least this takes him off the table as an option for us, so this is all good news...
