ESPN are to screen this years Emirates Cup pre-season curtain-raiser to be held on Saturday 30th July and Sunday 31st July.
Joining the Gunners at Emirates Stadium for this summer’s tournament will be three high profile teams from around the world – the New York Red Bulls, Paris St. Germain and Argentina’s Boca Juniors.
The tournament consists of four games with the first at 2pm on Saturday 30th July with Thierry Henry’s New York Red Bulls taking on Paris Saint-Germain, followed at 4.20pm with the hosts Arsenal playing Boca Juniors.
Sunday’s fixtures also start at 2pm, when Paris Saint-Germain take on Boca Juniors. Arsenal and New York Red Bulls will bring the competition to an exciting climax, kicking off the final match at 4.20pm on Sunday afternoon.
Teams will be awarded three points for a win and one point for a draw. The competition also rewards attacking play, with teams being awarded one point for each goal they score. In addition, shots on target will be counted and will be used to decide the tournament winners if teams are level on points and goal difference. The winning team will be presented with the Emirates Cup trophy after the second match on Sunday 31st July.
Arsenal Chief Executive Ivan Gazidis said: “We’re delighted and proud to once again be hosting the Emirates Cup this summer. Over the previous four years, the Emirates Cup has proved to be an overwhelming success and a thoroughly enjoyable weekend of football.
“Nearly half a million supporters have now come to Emirates Stadium to attend the Emirates Cup in the four years, and the tournament is now recognised around the world as a prestigious pre-season event.
“Emirates Airline has been the proud sponsor of the Emirates Cup since the inaugural tournament in 2007 and we’re obviously delighted that they have decided to continue with this successful partnership.
“New York Red Bulls, Boca Juniors and Paris Saint-Germain are three clubs with great players and huge followings, and they are sure to make Emirates Cup 2011 a hugely exciting weekend of football. Also, I’m sure all Arsenal fans will be looking forward to welcoming back Thierry Henry – a true Arsenal legend.”

Tbf PSG have a shitload of money so hopefully they'll sign a few decent players before them (Hazard or Pastore should be going to them), NY will see the return of Henry and although Boca are relatively garbage we'll get to see Riquelme plodding around.

A must watch, tbh.

Cripps_orig

The only reason they invited New York Yankees whatever is cos Henry plays for them and Arsenal hope he can pull in the fans cos they know the fans are restless now and the attendance would have been nowhere near as huge as previous years without the Henry factor

Boca have Riquelme but not Palermo anymore.
NYRB have Henry, Marquez, Agudelo, and mini-Shrek.
PSG are rich now so could bring a whole host of signings like Gameiro, and maybe Leonardo will play too.
Arsenal have Carl Jenkinson

Again, some of our reserve/squad players not stepping up and giving the manager a selection headache. Chamakh looked shit as usual, losing the ball regularly, Squillaci with his customary cock up, Vela was anonymous apart from that dribble for the goal etc etc. Our squad is no where near strong enough at the moment, and it's really worrying. Not only do we have to shift the deadwood out, we need to replace them with quality, and we're running out of time.

Pretty crap on the whole. Only positives are Gervinho and Jenkinson. Squillaci and Djourou screwed up again, showing how badly we need new defenders. Chamakh did sweet FA, showing how weak our striking options are, and Nasri looked completely disinterested. So all in all, a shit performance that doesn't bode well for the start of the season.

There was also some booing at the ground, showing how angry many fans are at the current state of play.

Fatigue set in, we lacked a little bit of sharpness. But overall it was a professional performance, lots of spirit and togetherness. We were very secure at the back and very unlucky to give away two gaols like a cheap crack whore gives it up for a fix. We looked sharp up front, especially when Chamakh and Vela came on, they did as well as a pair of aids-ridden faggots at a KKK meet-up. Bodes well, I can see us triumphing this season, I think we'll go all the way and take 4th place in style. It's on.

Well just woken up down under and finished watching the game. 10 thoughts thus far -
1. With so many goals scored in the PL from set pieces (mainly against us...) why the fuck don't we buy someone who can deliver with quality. RVP and Nasri's were both utter shite. How many times can you hit the same ball and fail to beat the 1st man?
2. Squid should never be allowed to disgrace the shirt again
3. Jenkinson was promising, he'll be a good back-up for Sagna
4. Squid should never be allowed to disgrace the shirt again
5. Frimpong highly promising, good competition for Song
6. Squid should never be allowed to disgrace the shirt again
7. Gervinho looks alright, nice to see someone take players on
8. Squid should never be allowed to disgrace the shirt again
9. Sell the disinterested cunts (Cesc and Nasri) and buy quality CB's and someone who can take a set piece (there's no new revelations there...)
10. Squid should never be allowed to disgrace the shirt again

Niall_Quinn
31-07-2011, 05:27 PM
There goes our only chance of a trophy this season. People who think we're finishing top four with this shower of shit are over-reaching. I absolutely hate the crap we play, pointless pass after pointless pass and then give the ball away carelessly in the final third. That's the entire Arsenal game these days. Chamakh and Vela - you just have to laugh in desperation. How these two can be wearing an Arsenal shirt is a complete fucking mystery. I dare anyone to name a worse striking pair in the history of the PL. Go on - name any two for any team ever. If RvP gets injured we are absolutely fucked. We had a chance to sack Wenger and get a proper manager in, we didn't do it and now we'll pay the price. It's not the fact we finished third in our own tournament, it's not the fact we can't keep a clean sheet even against a pub team, it's the style of football we play. No power, no pace, sideways, negative - total shit. Is everyone SURE we are technically good? I'm not. Tipp-tapping it around the midfield 100 times is all well and good, but when you can't defend, can't complete a pass in the final third, can't cross, can't take a corner, can't take a free kick - is that the sign of a technically accomplished team?

Great for TH though - fucking legend.

According to Wenger we lost our tactical stability in both games - although he confirms it was New York's fault we are shit because they defended too much. On a positive note our defence is looking strong - apparently. Acid head.
