Murray, Djokovic, Wawrinka, Nishikori and Raonic all absent.

:haha:

What a shit tournament this will be.

Another +1 for Federer.

Murray was due to play someone called Tennys. :haha:

Maybe Tennys can save tennis.

I dunno, Old Man Fed has his bad back.

Gulbis to win by default.

Federer has a difficult start against Francis Tiafoe who beat Zverev in Cincinnati

I don't think he will win, hasn't won in New York in nine years.

Lajovic is up a break on Old Man Nadal.

McNamara That Ghost...

He got the break back.

Nadal double faults on set point in the tie-break.

Serving for the match at 5-2 in the third

The first set wobble well and truly behind him

Lajovic if I recall broke Federer in the second round match at Wimbledon this year in the first set. Federer had to take it on a tie break.

Fed beat Tiafoe but in five sets. 4-6 6-2 6-1 1-6 6-4.

Herbert_Chapman's_Zombie

Yep I said that would be difficult match for Federer.

Tiafoe is a potential US open champion within next few years.

Denis Shapavalov the kid who beat Nadal in Montreal is through to the third round after beating Jo Wilfred Tsonga in straight sets.

Old Man Fed up against Youzhny.

If he doesn't run through him in straight sets, his Old Man Back must be inducing paralysis.

Great crosscourt winner from Fed. Up a double break already.

Federer into the third round after another five setter

Tiafoe understandable but if he has any chance of winning here he shouldn't be being taken to five sets by Mikhail Youhzny

Seems to be making a lot of basic error going long on points or netting volleys. He was serving for the second and fourth set and was broken, failed to convert multiple break points in the fourth game of the fifth set

Federer needs to bag himself some easy wins or his US open challenge will die on its arse.

Herbert_Chapman's_Zombie
01-09-2017, 07:14 PM
Denis Shapavalov two sets to one up against Britains Kyle Edmund who may be on the cusp of retiring from this match

The Canadian another potential future star

Nadal beat Mayer 6-7 (3-7) 6-3 6-1 6-4.

Fed beat Lopez 6-3 6-3 7-5.

Dolgopolov next for Nadal, Kohlschreiber for Federer.

Herbert_Chapman's_Zombie
03-09-2017, 10:04 AM
Fewer errors and back hand fuck ups for Federer

Nadal has easier run to semi final with Dolgopolov followed by the winner of Goffin and Rublev

Federer should he get past Kohlscreiber will have to face Del Potro or Dominic Thiem (to get past either has to be playing a lot better than he has so far)

The possibility of them meeting in the semi final is though very real (first ever meeting at Flushing meadows, for which I'd make Nadal overwhelming favourite)

On the other side of the draw, I can potentially see Denis Shapavalov making his way through to the final.

If he beats Carreno Busta, then it's winner of Diego Schwarzmann or Lucas Pouille and then what would be I imagine a semi final meeting with Sam Querrey.

Herbert_Chapman's_Zombie
03-09-2017, 06:15 PM
I jinxed Shapavalov

Two sets down and into a tie break in third set (lost the previous two breakers against Carreno Busta)

Sugarpova. :haha:

Also, Nadal up 6-2 6-4 and 4-0 on the Dog.

Also, McEnroe said Dolgopolov was throwing in the towel at two sets down and a break. To Nadal.

Anyone with any self respect. Nadal is a great player but you don't just decide to give up because you don't think you can get back in the match. He had break points against the Nadal serve in the first and second set.

McNamara That Ghost...
04-09-2017, 11:48 PM
Nobody has the same fight at that stage.

Also, Fed breaks Kohlschreiber and leads 4-3 in the third set.

Thiem and Del Potro are in a fifth, Thiem had lead 2-0.

Fed serving for the first set.

Making a note, Fed with a successful challenge. It happens quite often but for some reason all the pundits and commentators seem to think he is one of the worst?

Three break points for Fed.

Thiem had match points in the fourth. Del Potro one point away from his own.

Thiem and Del Potro are in a fifth, Thiem had lead 2-0.

Two years ago. I believe Nadal was two sets and a break up against Fabio Fognini

He lost that match

It's always worth trying

Anyway along with Zverev and Shapovalov, I also jinxed Thiem

Vandeweghe has just dumped out Pliskova 7-3 6-3!

Pliskova. :haha:

Why is she #1? Oh actually she isn't now, Muguruza is.

Also, three Americans in the women's semi-finals. Four if Keys beats Kanepi, who would play Coco next.

Venus v Stephens in the other semi-final.

Nadal up next.

Very honest assessment from Federer. The fact that he needed a back massage between the second and third set against Kohlscreiber would have sent alarm bells ringing. His back hand was no where near as effective as it was in Melbourne

For him to have won the US open and his third grand slam of the year would have been an unprecedented achievement given his age. I think he can be rightly proud of the season he's had....especially ending his Nadal hoodoo in the AO final

Del Potro is a tricky opponent but unfortunately (and I say unfortunately as I'm not a massive Nadal fan) this appears to be Nadals tournament to lose. Del Potro beat him in the Rio Olympics but in a best of five sets match it will be too much for him I suspect.

I'm not going to lie, don't like Nadal at all. And it's just possible that had he had a tougher draw he wouldn't have won

But this has been a good tournament for him, his best outside of the French open. And he and Roger Federer have pushed back the years to divide up the grand slams between them and they have both had excellent seasons. On balance, Nadal deserves to be world number 1.

Could a fit Federer have bested Nadal? We will never know now.
