We can only go on the evidence on what he's done at clubs like Newcastle, Norwich and now Brighton. And that evidence points to him being nothing out of the ordinary. We've seen managers with fewer resources than Hughton play better football and achieve more.

I think this Liverpool team is a different animal to the exciting but flaky teams of recent memory. It’s hard to ignore the defensive improvement they’ve made and because of that I think they’re genuine title contenders.

Their only downfall could be weight of expectation to win a trophy. No doubt this is a big year for Klopp, they’ve invested well, the team can now be called his own, so all that’s left is to go and deliver some success.
