Cesc Fabregas has failed to recover from a muscular injury and has not travelled to Germany for the Club’s pre-season training camp.

The midfielder missed the recent tour of Asia with the problem and will not join up with the rest of the squad, who flew out to Cologne on Friday afternoon, Arsène Wenger has confirmed.

Summer signing Gervinho has made the trip and is in line to make his Arsenal debut against FC Cologne on Saturday. There is also a place in the squad for goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski, who returns from the shoulder injury that kept him out of action at the back end of last season.

Nicklas Bendtner, Abou Diaby and Emmanuel Eboue have stayed in London.

“[Fabregas] has not completely recovered from his muscular injury,” Wenger told Arsenal.com on Friday. “It is too early for him, he is not ready.

“Gervinho is with us. Fabianski is back. Eboue is injured and is behind and Bendtner is behind.

“Diaby is out longer term so that is why I do not speak about him. We do not count Diaby for August. He will miss the start of the season for sure.”

Apparently this is the final 'phase one' game where fitness is the major aim, plus I'm not sure how shite a 6-0 win can really be.

Some of our defending is really keystone cops at times. We get caught extremely exposed on counter attacks, and Gibbs' needs to work on his positioning. Some of his offensive work is very good, but defensively he's nowhere to be seen too often.

Apart from that, offensively we've looked good. Wilshere proving what a top quality footballer he is. I don't know how Cripps can say that Chamakh has looked good though, IMO he's been dismal.

Anyway i want to know more about this Ryu kid.

Other than the obvious reason why we signed him, (shirt sales in pub team countries in Asia) is he actually any good? Never seen him play. Not seen any pre season highlights and i didnt see him play in Holland last season.

Niall_Quinn
23-07-2011, 02:30 PM
Very unlucky for Jenkinson. Apart from that last minute fluke he's had a great half and it's great to watch a proper defender at Arsenal again after all this time. He's a big step up from Sagna but I doubt Wenger will acknowledge the fact and start him. I also doubt he'll allow some of the free movement up front that worked so well, the new guy and Theo looked very bright - let's hope they can take it beyond the pre-season. Jack looked full of running too, looks like it was a good decision to keep him out of that crappy England team.

Now for a very serious question.

Has anyone ever witnessed a worse striker than Chamakh - in all of their life. It's painful how shit this guy is. How the fuck is he playing for Arsenal? Is he blackmailing Wenger or something? What a useless cunt, the worst I've ever seen in an Arsenal shirt. Wenger has 3 weeks left to get rid of him and sign a striker. But he won't have the balls to admit how wrong he was to sign this useless piece of shit.

Signing Japanese players is no longer simply to do with shirt sales in the Far East. They are a country producing some top players recently, as we saw at the world cup. This is why I'm looking forward to seeing Miyachi play, because he seems to have a lot of potential. However, we can't afford to rely on him next season, and must supplement our squad with experienced quality if we want to win things next season.

Yeah, Gibbs positioning has left us a little too exposed at the back, one of the reasons I want a 'proper' LB in.

Just keeping the balance tbh. Only a matter of time before the MOC mention Gervinho as the best player of all time cos of his goals.

I just got in first.

As for Chamakh, im not even watching it tbh but if past history suggests anything on GW, the guy can score 47 goals in 3 minutes (FIFA 11 style) and still be critisised so i dont pay much attention to GWers when it comes to Chamakh

Yes....Yes - started with Nakata and continues now........to be honest the J-league is fairly poor so the ones that have crossed over do have to be a bit special........Kagawa is good and I like Uchida.......Nagatomo would have been great, speed, flair and can defend although attack is his forte, heart of a lion

Honda would not be a bad buy, and with quotes that Blackburn were offering in the region og 7 mil.......we can go there too

Miyachi was straight out of high school so the scouts did something right over here it seems

More evidence if any were needed that that Walcott is no striker. The amount of cock-ups that this boy has in front of goal would make a blind man look like a sharp shooter. Another stiker is needed asap. without RVP we are dead. Gervinho might be the business though.......i hope

on the minute’s silence before the game…
I think it is the minimum you can do. It was a terrible shock when you see what happened there, in a country that is so peaceful. We would like to support all those people who suffer, of course. We know that Norwegians follow English football.

on his thoughts after a good work-out…
We played at a good pace in the first half and looked dangerous. Gervinho had a good start and that is always important for his confidence. Overall, I liked today. We took many risks and were exposed to counter-attacks but, overall, I am happy.

on Gervinho’s brace on his Arsenal debut…
He has shown his qualities. He has quick movement behind [the defence], the timing of his movement is great and he is easy to find. We have seen what he can bring to the team and he contributes to the high pace we have in the team.

on how pre-season preparations are going…
The team is not completely ready but it was the end of our first phase of preparations and it was important to win the game.

on Conor Henderson’s injury…
The only sad thing today is the injury to Conor Henderson, it looks quite bad but let us hope that we have good news tomorrow morning. He twisted his knee, I don’t know how big the damage is but the first signs don’t look too encouraging.

on any other knocks…
Samir got a kick to his ankle, Gervinho got a kick on his knee but both have minor damage.

on plans for the week ahead…
Training, training, training! Morning and afternoon. It is a block of work that will be very intense for us. Tomorrow will be an easier day but Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday will be higher levels of work.

Good to see that Gervinho's gotten off the mark, if he stays fit I think he's capable of making a difference.

Can't really comment on anything else as didn't see the game, interesting to note that Jenkinson's capable of calamities so he'll fit in fine...

Shame about Henderson.

One question though, who the frig is Henderson?

Overreact much??? Yes we need another striker as Chamkah is useless, but using Theo as an example based on the 45 mins he played today is hardly fair, when you add his tally of goals last season, i think your talking bollocks mate

Thought Theo and Gervinho looked a useful pairing in the first half, despite the fact the horrendously awful Chamakh was fucking it up at every opportunity. Theo's finishing was a bit suspect but I'd rather have him up there than the totally counter-productive Moroccan or the not so great Dane.

If Wenger signed a solid replacement for Clichy and brought in a couple of proper CBs, along with TV and Jenkinson I believe we'd have the makings of a defence we could build a proper challenge on. £40mill would do it, we could have a real defence for just a bit more than the price of one Rio Ferdinand. Instead we'll go with Koscielny, Djourou, Squillaci and Gibbs and we'll pay dearly for it. The trouble we have is our decent players are more than offset by the absolute garbage Wenger allows in the squad. It doesn't have to be that way.

Gibbs has a lot to learn and is extremely injury prone. I don't know why we haven't expressed more of an interest in Jose Enrique. He wouldn't cost the earth and would slot comfortably into the left back slot no questions asked.

I can't understand how Wenger believes he has enough at left back, unless moving Vermaelen out there is a genuine possibility.

At least he said he is trying to bring in a defender tbf, with hopefully some serious bids, rather than the half arsed attempt at getting Jagielka.

The reactions are better than the own goal.

That guy probably killed himself.
