England manager Roy Hodgson wants television companies to stop asking for games between the Premier League's top teams on Sundays before internationals.
Because affected players need time to recover, Hodgson thinks such scheduling limits his amount of preparation time.
Hodgson also called for a winter break, saying it would give the English season a more "logical" schedule.
"It would be lovely to think that one day we could all get together and say 'England is important'," Hodgson said.
Four of England's eight remaining World Cup qualifiers are scheduled to be played on Friday evenings.
Hodgson's training time with his players is already in short supply and he feels it is limited further when his main players are involved in Sunday's fixtures.
He cited the example of Manchester United's recent televised 16:00 BST clash at Southampton, ahead of the World Cup qualifiers against Moldova and Ukraine, as unhelpful scheduling.
Speaking in a question-and-answer session, broadcast on the Football Association's website, he added: "It would be nice if, when we're playing on Friday, the top teams played on Saturday and not Sunday. Then on Monday we could do a bit of work, and on Tuesday do some serious work.
"But every time, the top clubs have played on Sunday and some at five o'clock on Sunday. If they're from Manchester and they've played in Southampton, they get back late at night then have to come down again."

From BBC's Sportsday live text update:

Spanish soccer fans might miss the national team's World Cup 2014 qualifier away to Belarus on Friday as no television broadcaster has agreed to pay the price set by rights holders Sportfive to show the match in country.

"It worries me that people in Spain might not be able to see the match and follow their national team and it would leave a bad taste," said Spain coach Vicente del Bosque.

Shows the state of England's team that Oxlade - despite having an unimpressive start to the season - is still an England regular these days. Cleverley too. But aside from those two, it's not a bad line-up. Although anything would do against San Marino.

The England game was so bad.

Rooney and Wellshit scored two each, but they were absolutely terrible. They tried more pointless flicks than Ramsey and barely one came off. Oxface was by far the best player in the first half; not one player was on his wavelength. He was almost as bad as Rooney in the second half though. Walker gave perhaps the worst individual performance since Almunia versus West Brom. The fact that he struggled to control basic five-yard passes, couldn't link up with the almost-as-hapless Lenin right in front of him and couldn't cross a ball with the freedom of the right side granted to him almost made we weep at the fact that I was actually watching this match.

At least Theo's inevitable eight-month absence gives an early promotion to Segrio Gnabry.

The England team does seem kind of soulless atm (no homo). I don't care that much that the players are a bunch of twats - but they're not even interesting twats. If they had a bit of character about them, I could still find myself supporting the bad guy. But they're like a bunch of Walcotts. Just sly little shits. But it's football. And after cric nets I have nothing to do. So come on England.

what exactly happened?

BBC Sport commentator Alistair Bruce-Ball in Serbia:"After England scored their second goal their players went off to celebrate. They have no supporters in the ground so clearly they were going to be celebrating in front of some Serbia fans. Those fans took exception.

"Danny Rose got separated from the group and then he clearly got involved in a slanging match with some spectators. He felt he was being racially abused and there was stuff being thrown at him. Then some of the Serbian players and staff piled in - they didn't like Rose having a go at their fans. Then it turned into a mass brawl.

"England very sensibly tried to get off the pitch as quickly as they could. Danny Rose was actually sent off and as he left the pitch he was mimicking a monkey by sticking his arms underneath his armpits. He was very clearly making the point that it was very clever, this racial abuse.

"We are going to see quite how hard, or not, Uefa come down on this. I have never seen anything quite like that."This
