Who's worse at the moment: Arshavin or Chamakh?

They're supposed to be experienced players too. It's like someone adjusted their stats on PES/ISS/FIFA and put everything on 0 to make sure every single thing they do is a completel and utterly ridiculous haphazard failure.

They cannot be anywhere near the team on Wednesday.

Play a front three of Ryo-Theo-Gervinho with RVP in behind and just attack like maniacs. Frimpong and Song can be water carriers. Actually, replace Song with Lansbury, as he's been almost as poor as Arshavin.

I reckon Song will drop back, as long as there's any doubt about Djourou, if DJ plays then a Song/Frimpong wall in midfield with RvP in behind Chamakh and stick Miyachi and Ugly Theo on as they're unlikely to do less than Arsh and Theo, hit them on the break for a 2-0 aggregate win, easy.

I'm really tempted to drop Walcott tbh, but I thinik Wenger will play it safe and won't risk playing Miyachi and Oxlade, even though I think they'd probably offer more than Theo at the moment.

No way should Theo be dropped for this.

Scored in the first leg and he didnt have the best of games v Liverpool but bar Vermaelen, they were all shit. Dont forget that Jose Enrique is a quality left back as well.

Theo is the only pace option we have tbh. Oxface is league one standard and Ryu wont play unless we need some money from Asia.

I think you're right.

I will say this though, Theo looked better against Liverpool than he did against Newcastle and even Udinese, despite the goal, so it might well be he's just taking his time getting back up to speed (ironic, eh?), give him a bash up top in a 4-4-2 instead of Chamakh maybe.

Cripps_orig

He played 2 minutes v Newcastle tbh. Ok maybe a bit longer than 2 minutes

And he got an effort on target which is more than can be said for most of our attacking players that day.

Against Udinese, he was our best player in the first half, team went in for half time, no doubt Wengeritis crept in and they were all shit after it.

Took a MOTM by Liverpools left back to stop him.

In short, Theo is a shining light at Arsenal and could very well be the only one.

Whaaaaaaat?

He looked as lost as he's ever been IMO.

At least he scored against Udinese and looked liked he might be an outlet for us against Newcastle.

I like him but he does have a horrible tendency to passenger his way through games, I blame the set up of the team rather than him individually though.

Le grove today mentioning that Wenger may play Nasri in this game in defiance of the board.

That would be immensely stupid and suicidal tbh.

Whether we need him or not, he's being sold shortly so the last thing we need to do is fuck about getting him cup tied and killing any potential transfer.

Wenger should stop being a dick and face reality for once. The guy doesn't want to be here, he's already trying to avoid playing in this game to avoid being cup tied. If Wenger forces him to play, City will withdraw their offer, Nasri will get the hump and we'll be left with an unhappy player. If Wenger, the board, Nasri and his agents had sorted this transfer out earlier, we wouldn't be in this mess.

No.

He doesnt want to be here and it is monumentally stupid to let him stay for his last year then leave for free.

Only a fucking retard would do that, and there are better AM's that can be bought for the money he is likely to go for that will perform for more than 3 months in a season.

Joker
23-08-2011, 09:27 AM
If we keep him, he'll most likely sulk and won't give a 100%. Yes, he played quite well against Liverpool but that was in anticipation of a move to City coming up in the next week. If he's forced to stay a whole season with us, I doubt you'd get the same commitment. Wenger should for once put aside his ego and stop trying to make a point and see what's right for the club.

Boss
23-08-2011, 09:41 AM
In an ideal world, we'd sell Nasri for 25M and then reinvest that fully to buy someone of similar quality (Mata, Sneijder, Schweinsteiger). Repeat for Fabregas.

This isn't an ideal world, we already have roughly 26M profit made from this summer burning a hole in Wenger's pocket, even if Nasri goes for just 20M, can anyone see Wenger splashing out 46M on top quality players?

Unlikely. We're more than likely to start the season with what we have or buy lower than acceptable quality (someone like Scott Dann), for which we don't need Nasri's fee at all.

Sure, it's silly to make a 25M loss in business terms, but how does the club netting 25M benefit the fans? It does not benefit us in any way at all.

If ticket prices came down, there would be some kind of excuse but they've risen by 6.5% this year, a move that nets the club only 4.5M and has pissed off 60,000 people. Despite the club probably banking at least 30M in profit this window, very little of that will be spent on anything that boosts the fans.

Nasri's still our best attacking midfielder and he is a professional. You can't slaughter his attitude for dropping off in the second half of the season and then ignore fan darlings like Wilshere, Walcott, Sagna, Djourou etc who did the same.

In conclusion, a quality player on the pitch (even for just a year) > the board making 25M profit which we'll never see.

Absolutely no basis for that. You might even see double the commitment next season as he'd have his pick of clubs to choose from and would be able to command the package he likes if he puts in stellar performances.

Let's not forget that one of the players who's showed the most commitment (on the field) for the club in the last ten years is one of the most disloyal players to have played football - Mathieu Flamini.

I think that's right - Even if we make him stay a year when he'd rather go, he knows it would be in his interest to advertise his skills as he might get even better offers from clubs in a year who won't have to pay the transfer fee.

In conclusion, a quality player on the pitch (even for just a year) > the board making 25M profit which we'll never see.

Agreed - If the 25 million we would have got for him goes missing because we keep him for a year, that is better than him going now for 25 millions that will dissappear into the ether.

Really unlucky to be a goal down here. Great half of football from both teams but we're suffering because Ramsey can't get a grip in the middle and even when he does he's not using it. Gervinho too needs a bit more concentration. Great stuff from Jenkinson and Frimpong, these two look like they've been playing at this level for years. Nothing to worry about with the score, even if we concede again. Just one goal will be enough and I think we'll get it. One possible problem, TV looks injured. If he doesn't come out for the second half we might be in the shit.

Given the quality of player out there, this is probably the best we can hope for.

And RVP needs to learn about how to A) play as a striker and B) lead by example as a captain from Di Natale, who's been outstanding for them tonight. Compare that to RVP, who's disappeared as he always does when we need a crucial goal from him.

Özim
24-08-2011, 07:37 PM
Udinese far more effective IMO, quicker with counters, cleverer on the ball and Di Natale is lethal.

We've done OK but final ball has been poor and we've fluffed the few chances we've had.

Di Natale's already hit the post, scored from an offside position, set up a chance that hit the post, had a decent shot from a tight angle saved, shot from outside the box saved and of course scored.
