Bit annoyed that we won't see the likes of Handanovic in the CL. He's fucking awesome and would love him here. We have to have the unknown teams with pub team players instead.

Says the guy who'd rather have De Gea over Szczesny.

Don't see what De Gea has to do with this. Believe it or not, unlike yourself I do watch football outside of England and there are quality keepers out there of which Handanovic is one

Looking around mainstream media sites today, I have noticed a few articles stating that "we have earnt our place among the top seeds." We have been in the top pot for years even after having to endure many play offs to reach the group stages. Is this down to our pedigree in European competition over the last 14 years? Spuds and Citeh, on thier debut seasons have been dumped into pot 3. If co efficients are used to determine number of places etc, does the seeding come down to past performances? I find it weird that teh german winners and runners up have been put in the bottom two pots tbh.

McNamara That Ghost...
25-08-2011, 01:56 PM
Yes it is accumulated from the past five seasons in Europe. Worth noting that both the Europa League and Champions League are given equal weighting with regards to the coefficient attained over each season, hence why Porto have made it in to Pot 1.

They have played in the UEFA Cup/Europa League a couple of times but they didn't really do anything too significant in that time.

So they should really be in the last pot, but due to the successes of "the top four" over the years they have "earnt" their stripes lol.

Sounds like City couldn't buy the pot of their choice. Shame. If their soap opera survives another five years then maybe they'll actually earn a spot, if such a thought has even crossed their minds.

I'll re-quote this because it's insane. Borussia Dortmund's supporters are amazingly vocal. Games against German sides are rarely, if ever as tame as you make out.

I have been to watch Dortmund before and their stadium is electric. 10 Euros a ticket for standing, cheap beer on the go, all makes for a great atmosphere. It's basically what England was like in the 80's, only without the brain dead neanderthals ruining it for everyone.

Recorded the draw so i could fast forward all the shit. Saw Bobbys gaffe though

Will be known for that now rather than anything he did on the pitch. Old cunt

Anyway most important thing about the draw? Real and Arsenal playing on seperate days

Means i can watch both. After seeing Marseille and Olympicgames in our group, i was disappointed but delighted we got Dortmund. WMUG :haha:

They are an excellent team and we are fighting for 2nd with the other 3 imo as long as Dortmund dont sell their big stars.

As long as we field proper teams against Olympiakos we should have enough to get through. Must get 6 points in those two games and win our home games. I doubt City will get through though - LOL.

Small club tbf.I did not say they were a small club! But they're not going to generate an atmosphere among the Arsenal fans at the game in the same way Milan would, rightly or wrongly. Yes there'll be a great atmosphere at their ground, but that's their advantage, not ours.

And they will help to create a good, if not great atmopshere at ours. The quality of their team will raise that for it too, unless it is a dead rubber (it is the fifth game we will play after all). Can I ask why you keep using Milan as the standard bearer; was there something particularly memorable for you about the atmosphere for the 0-0 three years ago?

I was being faceitious before, given I hadn't actually quoted you then.

I suspect it could well just be a good atmosphere based on the fact we'll be playing a German team, regardless of anything else - I think most will know they are German.

Milan are a team we have actually played before in the Champions League so I was figuring you might recall if, for you, the atmosphere was special for that game.

It shouldn't matter who we are playing PL or European. There should be a great atmosphere from our end. I have never been to a Home game, but by watchin on TV teh atmosphere at the Grove are not what I saw from games at Highbury. Stick Milan in our group and we'd probably struggle to get out of it. I'd prefer getting to the knock out stages with a silent crowd, than get knocked out whilst at the same time having an electric atmosphere.

My point, EG (which was meant to be a throwaway comment that started this whole thing off) is that there will be no electric atmosphere and still decent teams that we may struggle to get past.

Anyway, this nit picking has gone far enough, I'm out.

Well my irony meter exploded there - it wasn't nitpicking, it was establishing what you thought of the atmosphere we had when we played the team you referenced. It doesn't have to be an 'electric' atmosphere, I never suggested it would be, I said it would be a good atmosphere. And if it gets to the level of the Milan game which I now know you consider above average (and that for a knock-out tie) then that I guess that would indeed represent a relatively good atmosphere.

Bayern can be absolutely sensational or a mess. But they seem to raise their game in Europe.

Villarreal are always tough to beat, If they keep Rossi, they should do well.

Napoli have bought some good players, so they could be an intriguing proposition. But I don't really expect any of the Italian teams to pose much of a threat.

Citeh haven't played at this level before, but by buying half our team they have players who've done it before. Actually, come to think of it, apart from ex-Arsenal mercenary scum, most of their players don't have all that much CL experience. Even the likes of Tevez, Aguero and Silva only have a few seasons of CL experience. So, basically, it's up to Clichy to lead the charge.
