Probably just Arshavin in for Walcott.

RVP to get another brace. 3-1.

Xhaka Can’t

Went down towards the end of the game. Possibly a hamstring strain, but Wenger was unsure.

Only problem with that logic is Djourou

Master Splinter
27-09-2011, 02:47 PM
Djourou is also injured, isn't he?

Hopefully he is.

Miquel usually looks assured and he's four billion times better than Djourou, so it's surely a no-brainer.

I have a feeling Wenger will play Rosicky instead of Chamberface. Would be nice to finally see Ju in a proper game.

Marc Overmars
27-09-2011, 03:54 PM
Ju is in danger of becoming a bit of a myth really, strange how he hasn't even made the bench yet for a league game.

So that's possibly five central defenders out. Only at Arsenal.

Arsenal goal: European football? Easy. What an introduction to the Champions League from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, the youngster collecting Alex Song's raking through-ball, bursting inside and then crashing a low left-foot effort home off the post. Brilliant.

Unusually accurate for the BBC.

100 million can sort a lot of things. We had a back four of toure-senderos-Eboue-Flamini at the back that has the world record for most minutes without a goal in CL... that doesnt cost you 100 million dollars. Some sort of tactical nous or even accepting the fact that we need a defensive coach can solve our problems. The board is NOT to blame for this.. Bring on Coq for Frimpong and Ju for Arshavin and RvP for Chamakh.

I think this formation is what causes us the biggest problems, LB/RB always caught out of position meaning we are always overrun. Bring 442 back and use the strikers as the outlet.

Rubbish as usual. Can't defend, can't string any passes together and therefore can't create any chances.

Where has all the quality gone?

On the plus side, we're winning. 45 mins away from a big upset.

Not sure anyone remains who would dispute Wenger is (somehow) clueless defensively. All I'm saying is, Wenger's shortcomings easily acknowledged, there's a lot more to our problems.

Oh yes, agree. We have tons of problems in the club but defense is Arsene's problem alone. We have Sagna (best RB IMO), Per (German intl), Song (above avg CB) and a Brazilian intl playing LB.. we shouldnt be looking like a deer caught in headlights whenever the ball is with Olympiakos. Forget Olympiakos, we shouldnt look as clueless as that against Blackburn.

Funny thing is.. as soon as you enter emirates stadium, you read "the deeper the foundations (defense), the stronger the fortress (team)". And we as a team have the shakiest foundation.. go figure!

HT 2-1

Oxo looks great when we can get him in the game. He has pace, can beat his man, gets to the byline, can cross, can shoot. Fuck me - did we luck out here and pick up a decent player by mistake? The board could get a lot of money for this guy in a couple of years.

Obviously (and all joking aside) Chamakh is just garbage. How many more games does this guy get before we buy a decent striker?

But even worse than Chamakh is our defence. A total shambles. I can clearly see why we aren't going for a defensive coach - none will come because they know the task has become impossible. Zero defending, Chesney exposed over and over again. At least the young kid has done well where the experienced pros have been utterly shown up.

Rosicky is finished as a player. One good performance a season is not enough.

Arteta is good in the middle but nobody is making any runs or making themselves available when he's looking to distribute.

Frimpong has spent most of the half struggling with positional problems.

All in all we should be several goals up but our long standing weak point, the defence, has kept Olympicos in the game and has given them enough encouragement they may even pinch something.

For their goal, how was that cunt able to stroll into the box and head the ball as if he was in training?

I've pretty much given up all hope of ever seeing defensively sound Arsenal under Wenger again.

Pathetic performance again. Defensively we look shambolic, and Olympiacos look as if they could score at any moment. The passing has been very poor, with a number of misplaced passes despite players being under no pressure on the ball. Chamakh has looked garbage as usual, while Sagna looks asleep. We're hugely lucky to be leading 1-0 and unless we improve dramatically, they will equalise.
