Arsenal Football Club is delighted to announce that the first-team squad will be playing a pre-season friendly in Malaysia this summer.

Arsène Wenger’s side take on a Malaysia XI at the Bukit Jalil Stadium, Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday, July 13, kick off 8.45pm local time. This game will be the first leg of Arsenal's Asian Tour. Details of the second leg will be announced on Wednesday.

Arsenal Chief Executive Ivan Gazidis said: “Everyone at Arsenal Football Club is excited to be visiting Malaysia.

“The Club has a tradition of playing there going back to the 1960s. This will be our fourth visit to Malaysia, having last visited Kuala Lumpur in 1999.

"We enjoy huge support in Asia and this will help bring the Club closer to our fans out there.”

HRH Prince Tengku Mahkoya of Pahang added: "It is an honour for Malaysia to host Arsenal, I don't think any other national teams get such opportunity. This is a rare opportunity for our Malaysian national team as they prepare for the Olympics and ahead of the World Cup."

Check Arsenal.com in the near future for ticket details, travel options and news about that second leg.

In addition, Arsenal has already confirmed the details for Emirates Cup 2011, which is being played at Emirates Stadium on Saturday, July 30 and Sunday, July 31.

Emirates Cup 2011 will see Arsenal joined by MLS side New York Red Bulls, who currently boast Gunners’ legend Thierry Henry in their ranks, leading French club Paris Saint-Germain and Club Atlético Boca Juniors - the most successful Argentine and South American club of all time.

This is a step forward for sure, nice to do something a bit different for a change. For years pre-season has been boring as hell.

Be nice to have some new quality players to cheer on too, maybe that's a bridge too far though.

wife was telling me a little while back that the tour was played for Japan!

sorry I didn't get that excited but was playing to go to get hold of some tickets.

Just went through the BBC archives and see that Malaysia is now the chosen destination because of the earthquake factor!

bit gutted to be honest as now I was looking forward to it and although the risk is very real......the chances of an earthquake hitting are as high as us defending a corner successfully..........

ummmmmmm! second thoughts with those kind of odds, best stay away!!

Arsene Wenger (http://www.goal.com/en-gb/people/france/2843/ars%C3%A8ne-wenger) believes his side’s pre-season (http://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/2896/premier-league/2011/07/01/2556289/arsene-wenger-believes-pre-season-tour-of-asia-will-benefit#) tour of Asia will provide vital preparation for the coming season as Arsenal (http://www.goal.com/en-gb/teams/england/94/arsenal) look to end their six-year wait for a trophy.
TheGunners (http://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/2896/premier-league/2011/07/01/2556289/arsene-wenger-believes-pre-season-tour-of-asia-will-benefit#) will play in Kuala Lumpur against a Malaysia XI on July 13 before taking on Chinese side Hangzhou Greentown on the July 16.
Wenger told the club's official website: “The group will live together in a completely different environment so it is very important to have that kind of experience together.”

“It is an opportunity for us to develop our game, to see what shape the players (http://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/2896/premier-league/2011/07/01/2556289/arsene-wenger-believes-pre-season-tour-of-asia-will-benefit#) are in when they come back and also to see any new players that we have. It will be important to see how well they can integrate with the team.

“We will take the best possible squad. We travel after the first week of training (http://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/2896/premier-league/2011/07/01/2556289/arsene-wenger-believes-pre-season-tour-of-asia-will-benefit#) [and] everybody will be back so the whole squad will travel.”

Arsenal in previous years have declined the opportunity to play in tournaments in the Far East in favour of shorter trips to Europe but the Arsenal boss has admitted it is a good opportunity to reach out to the Gunners (http://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/2896/premier-league/2011/07/01/2556289/arsene-wenger-believes-pre-season-tour-of-asia-will-benefit#) fan-base in Asia.
“I resisted for a long time but, as the Premier League becomes more and more a world league, it is important that we develop our fan bases,” said the Frenchman.
“China is a massive country where football is developing. The Premier League is a world brand and you don’t want to miss out in a country where you have so many potential fans.

“The organisation will be great, the hospitality will be great. People always try to help you out so I am not too worried about the aspects that you are usually worried about when you go on a long trip.

“The fact that I have worked in Japan and I have been to Malaysia and China, I know how well people want to do for you and so I am quite peaceful to go there.”

Who chooses the clubs that play the Emirates Cup? Why would they choose Boca?? Who will pay them?? Independiente de Avellaneda would have been a much wiser choice, plus it´s the best GK mine in Argentina. And, given Wenger´s economic genius, would have cost far less.

Typical performance from post 2005 Arsenal. Lot of useless passing 20-30 yards from goal, eventually losing the ball when trying an obviously telegraphed one-two. Defensively we're shambolic tbh, especially when trying to head the ball clear. We always seem to clear the ball straight to the opposition, never away from the danger area.
And nice to see RVP playing like a coward again.

We haven't even tested their goalkeeper yet:lol:

So much for RVP being one of the best strikers in the world. Now that we're losing and actually need him to deliver, this twat disappears.

@Johncrossmirror #Arsenal boss Wenger not happy. Up out of his seat, waving his arms in frustration. Sadly, he'll know it's new season, same problem. 1-0

@Youngungsblog Frimpong typically efficient in front of the back four. Always available for a pass and keeps play moving. Built like a tank, too.

Jenkinson, Song, Wilshire, Ramsey, Szczesney, Kosicenly, Myaichi, Walcott, Chamakh, Gibbs, Vermaellen.

They're much more progressive with their passing. We on the other hand are running down blind alleys and passing the ball without any purpose (no change there then)

@Younggunsblog Arsenal more dangerous in the second half. Introduction of proper width in Ryo and Theo creating more space and chances.

We've created more changes in the last 10 minutes than we did last half. Nasri too slow. Rosicky didn't do much pressing. Now our entire midfield presses, fights for everything. And we've got some real width again.

Thierrymon

Embarrassingly he appears to be our best defender, plus he can cross a ball. I'm sure we can train all of this out of him though.

Plus he's 6'2" and well built, areas where we tend to struggle, I reckon we'll see a fair bit of him next season.

Might help with team spirit and give some of the less committed members of the squad a perspective on our worldwide fanbase which wouldn't do any harm. Either way, it'll have made money and raised our earning potential over there so it's all good.

If the AFC fans at the away games couldnt lift the spirits and committment levels of these clowns, I doubt a bunch of loud Chinese fans with bad English wouldve made a difference. Ah, forget the English part, our squad speaks in French!

I dunno, it's one thing to go to the same places and hear the same old shit every week and it's quite another to fly to the other side of the world and interact with and play in front of some, quite frankly, rabid fans.
