Will NQ and Chamakh put their differences aside for the good of the team?

If I don't recover in time (Wenger said ten days, but I rounded up), MO will need to step in.

Although you'll now have a bog-standard water-carrier rather than a silky, gloriously gifted playmaker.

Or we could loan Rors from the Villa reserves, as McLeish will never utilise flair players.

Can't have Santos travelling, let alone playing. Stick some other pub teamer there. Yennaris at RB and Djourou at LB?

If fit, both Rosicky and Benayoun must start instead of Chamakh and Arshavin.

Looking forward to this and to the other English teams fucking up

I don't think one poor season for English clubs will bring it all crumbling down.

By that logic, Italy would have one team in the CL now.

And Scotland would have -5.

Nah they can still earn coefficient points being in the Europa League (Stoke are doing us proud in that one). And like MS intimated, the coefficents are amassed over the previous five seasons. Look at 2005/2006, apart from us it was a pretty awful competition for the English sides yet we haven't even come close to going down to three Champions League places.

Right I think I'm up to speed on our group table. I think if we win and Dortmund win, Olympiakos still go through unless we and/or Dortmund win by a few. If we draw or lose and marseille win, marseille are through and olympiakos are out. Best case scenario: we win andDortmund narrow win such that olympiakos go through....and then the away fans should be celebrating with the Greeks at the final whistle. Hope our players bother with this - wouldn't really be fair on marseille if we didn't out up a fight.

Marseille shouldn't have been so negative at home; therefore, bollocks to them.

Cripps_orig

Arsenal have qualified for the last 16 as group winners.
•Marseille will progress to the last 16 if they win at Borussia Dortmund on matchday six. They will also go through as long as they match Olympiakos' result against Arsenal.
•Olympiakos can only advance to the last 16 if they beat Arsenal and Marseille lose at Borussia Dortmund. A draw will be enough if Marseille lose by exactly 2-0*, or by three goals or more.
* Based on criteria vi. of the tie-breaker, Olympiakos will qualify by having scored more goals in all group games as goal difference will be levelled.
•Borussia Dortmund will only make the last 16 if they beat Marseille by four goals or more and Olympiakos lose to Arsenal. Dortmund can move above Marseille but cannot leapfrog Olympiakos if all three teams finish level on points.

Come on Dortmund

The game with the Bartley error a few years ago was a bit shit.

If they do go for it, it should free up space for Oxlade-Chamberlain and Ju.

I'd say Arshavin as well, but he'll just be waddling around with his Dennis Bendtner-beating first touch and misplacing two-yard passes.

No real surprise tbh. Our squad is nowhere near good enough, there are far too many shit players who are not able to do a job when called upon. Sure, we played well against Man City but that was a red herring, and conclusions about the quality of our squad based on that match are inaccurate. The reality is that we have a very small percentage of quality players in our squad, and if at least a couple of them are out, performances will drop alarmingly.

No surprise to see Squillaci and Djourou defending like twats again. You can't have backup defenders of this quality and expect to succeed.

its not just a red herring though. coq, jd, frimpong etc have all come into first team and played well. this game means nothing, the greeks were bound to be more up for it because they can qualify. we are through so lets give the lads a break. if we took a full first team. it would be different

I actually do care about our performance and I don't think it's "meaningless" at all. This is our B-side and if one of your 1st team players gets injured (which is 100% going to happen) we'll have to stick to those players we're seeing on the pitch tonight. And I don't like what I see right now!

throwing 9 new players into a team is going to cause problems, throwing one or two into a settled team wont do much. when jenksion was rb, he fitted in well just like frimpong and coq have.

Almunia for the 3rd?

Fabianski is fine as a backup. I didn't know he'd gone off injured, not really been watching tbh, only turned it on about 30 minutes in. I'd rather have a better partner for RvP than a top quality 3rd choice 'keeper.

Embarrassing performance all-round. Perfectly fine with getting beaten if we compete well like in the Man City game...but to gift the opposition two goals like that just shows that the learning process that the first-team seemed to have gone through hasn’t filtered through to the squad players. That panicky mess that we created about 5/6 times is not normal. Even on off days - shit like that doesn’t happen to good teams. It has nothing to do with playing ability and everything to do with an unstable mentality. Djourou and co. just start bricking it and so hesitation sets in. Grow a pair ffs.

I don’t know why Arsene chooses to play Arshavin. What’s he going to gain from it? Why not try out Park or some youngster we don’t know much about? At least we’d see somebody who might give a shit.

Second half, expect to see the opposition injured on the floor (read: time-wasting) and the game fizzling out.

this is what happens when a 'team' don't play together regularly, they can play well one game, shite the next. means nothing at all.

I'd say it's pretty unlikely, even with our injury record, that we'd ever have to put out a side like this in the PL. I've seen some of these players in PL games and surrounded by better players they do OK. All together and they're struggling. It's really not that important although I hope Wenger's giving them a bollocking and we make it respectable 2nd half.

He (Djourou) passed the ball straight to an opponent in his own area. And it took him 3-4 seconds thinking-time before he decided to pass the ball. Such mistakes as an idividual can cost us games even when he's surrounded by better players. He's had a shocking 1st half but I admit he looked ok in the last games.
2-0 down in the 1st half should be alarming enough to work/train harder!

Still, I think some of our B-side players aren't good enough to play in the 1st team.
