Got to cure that backpassing BS if we want to go from relying on complex moments of individual brilliance getting us goals. The backpassing slows everything down and puts more pressure on a defence that is improving. Why would we make their job harder? Get the ball forward quicker and Xhaka needs to sort out his sloppy passing in the middle which breaks momentum and again heaps the pressure on. It won't be these games against the better teams that define the season, it'll be about doing more against the mid table and lower opponents where we won't be able to sit back in numbers and will be expected to create and control the game.
Get rid then. It's super important to get a settled eleven and much better if that's eleven team players rather than individuals. Trouble is, football is more about the money than anything else now, so I wonder how simple it is to even find eleven team players these days.
AFTV - for the fans. And every video opens with an advert. Lend us a tenner Robbie.
I think it’s a confidence thing with AMN and Emi - I don’t doubt either player’s commitment when they pull on the shirt or their love for the club, but on some level I don’t think they’re letting themselves believe that they can keep their places as first choice players, and because they don’t have that confidence they’re probably looking at this as the best chance they’ll ever have to secure good moves, hot on the heels of two trophies and good runs of individual form.
Both of them need to have a little more faith in themselves, IMO - if they keep playing like this then they keep their places, it’s that simple. And someone needs to explain to them that that fear of losing their places is exactly the attitude we want from everyone at the club - if anything it gives you an edge.
Yay, I guess
Bit weird they need that explained to them though, as professional footballers. Might it be more a case of attempting to force by contract what they should be earning by merit? Which would signify a pretty bad attitude? And then, of course, you have to consider the agents and the fact they do nothing in the best interests of the club - quite the contrary. Corporatism and sport don't mix, if you value any of the traditional characteristics of football that made it local and fan focused. I mean look at that shitty excuse for a shirt we were wearing today. Adds a whole new meaning to playing for the shirt.
AMN has been called up to the England squad so another couple of mil on the price tag.
BBC highlights on in 20 minutes.
Showing highlights of the women's too.
Winning
Spufs fuckinlol
I like winning.
Tarquin’s mother likes winning
Maybe, except they’ve already done the merit bit - looks to me more like they just want assurances that it will be a fair fight, and that they won’t get dumped back to the bench simply because a bigger, more expensive name is available.
Possibly Ainsley also wants some clarity over his role, and our plans for his development, which I think is reasonable - he’s eaten a lot of shit from the fans over the last couple of years for inconsistent performances, when the truth is he’s been shunted around all over the team, doing whatever job he’s been asked, and with very little guidance or training until Arteta took over. If he’s not going to play his favoured CM then I think he’s ok with that, but I also think he has a right to ask where we do want him to play, and if he’s going to be trained in that role properly. Again, if we’re expecting him to earn his place on merit, then the odds are always going to be stacked against him when someone like Bellerin can spend 100% of his time training to be the be best RB he can be, while his own focus is split between covering RB, LB, CM, RW, LW, etc.
I’m sure there’s also an element of contract negotiation going on too, but, again, it’s probably fair. I think Ainsley is on half what Tierney and Soares are earning, and a quarter of what Bellerin and Kolasinac are on, when he’s easily better than 2 of those guys and en par with the other 2. And Emi will certainly be earning nowhere close to Leno’s £100k/wk - he’s from a poor background in Argentina, and probably supporting his whole family, so I can’t blame him for wanting to take advantage of this run in the team. At 27, he really needs to start making these things count. I certainly don’t think you can accuse Emi of being a merc - he’s waited patiently for a lot of years for his chance, and you could see his much playing for guys club means to him after the FA Cup final.
We’ve won as many trophies in 29 days as Spurs have in 29 years.
What a prick.
