That’s the criteria for being successful
Of that there is no argument
But Tom Green being popular for a while doesn’t make him talented

How does one objectively measure "talent"?
By comparison generally
Compare Dodd to any other comedian around at the time who in terms of sophistication of humour outshone him in every way
Talented comedians change and evolve the medium of comedy. Dodd was effectively a theatre hall vaudevillian, very light hearted and inoffensive but basically bland
OK. I don't disagree with that. But you could say the same about Ronnie Barker. He never did "edgy" stuff, he was of his time as was Dodd.
People found him entertaining although I'll admit I did go and see him one time (shut it) and I...lowered the average age somewhat.
Barker was probably a bad comparison. I think Dodd was just of his time. People found him entertaining enough back in the day. Like Wenger.
In brief:
Baker > Dodd.
But still Dodd
:rose:
"[Dodd was] an icon, a one-off and a true professor of comedy"
-Russ Abbot
Doesn't get much higher praise than that
Dodd in!
He was no Pat Lampard.
