So politicians and the wealthy collaborated to make a profit from it? Oh wow, that's never happened before or since. Their corruption didn't make slavery lawful again though, did it? The long standing aims of the left include trashing the history of the west, but it's too rich for many when you can still see slave markets in Africa (don't forget, the African slavers were handsomely rewarded too) and China, but all the criticism is levied against the west. Usually by lefty bastards like Bezos and Cook who have grown wealthy on the backs of slaves.
