It's like great musicians/writers/filmmakers/football managers who have have an incredible run and reach a peak they're never able to match again. The output in those years was so good that the work will live on forever.
There's no need for it to still be going, and it certainly doesn't detract from those early series. But it is quite painful when I occassionally watch a more recent episode and it feels like you're watching a fifth rate tribute performing outside a Gregg's.
