Having read this analysis here are the conclusions you could draw:

    1) Theo has improved his goal tally slowly but steadily, year on year (try not to shit your drawers after that particular bombshell)
    2) Does Theo score important goals? Answer, yes. But at a fairly constant rate throughout his career.

And it only took him 8 data tables and the horrible realisation that he was wasting his life to figure it out.

    Also, you're welcome.

    Yes he is.

    /thread

    Reopen thread

He can do better, of course he can but 20+ goals a season in the worst arsenal side in decades is pretty good. If he had the likes of Bergkamp, Pires etc instead of Arteta and Diaby, he'd be much better.

    Right player, wrong time.

    That is all

Like who? As Theo said, most wingers only manage 10 to 15 goals a season.

Not even our Highbury greats got 20 goals in one season from outwide.

IMO he's our most assured finisher, his crossing could be better and my real worry about him - for a player with his pace - is his ability (inability, rather) to beat players. He seems too easy to stop when he's running with the ball, he runs into trouble too often. Needs to improve that.

His development has been painfully slow but at this moment in time he is an important player for us, admittedly this probably has more to do with him being one of the better ones from a bad bunch. Also any player who holds out for a big contract is always going be scrutinised that little bit more, given the cynical nature of your average football fan.

Has it really been that slow in comparison to other young players at Arsenal? Most of the 16 year olds we buy end up playing lower league football. Wenger really isn’t that good at developing really young players (16-18). Theo, Cesc, Song and Clichy are the only guys I recall making it to the first team from reserves. Look at the countless others like JET, Sunu, Aliadière, Quincy, Bendy, Lupoli, Vela, Merida, Bentley, Pennant…..it’s a long list of failures.

Did you watch our most assured finisher against the Vietnamese? Yes, only a friendly, but to miss so badly on every occasion? He'll do that 19 times out of 20 in the coming season. Then he'll score one that reminds of Henry. That doesn't make him an assured finisher, it makes him by far the most inconsistent player in the squad.

Half his goals are +1s of no consequence and it was only towards the end of last season he started to score a few valuable goals to rescue an otherwise very ordinary set of statistics. But, as I have stated, it's not just about the goals he scores. It's also about the way the play breaks down around him 9 times out of 10. Or his terrible crossing, bar the 1 in 10. Or his dreadful positional play. And the way he can be anonymous for the whole 90 minutes. Like Giroud he's good enough if the height of our ambition is 4th. If we want to push on we'll need better players than Walcott.

NQ, stop. Just give it a rest. Your opinion means fuckall to me on this topic.
