Treated myself to a new bath bomb.

NOTE: The location of this post has been moved and the thread title (which was previously Wenger is Leaving) has been manipulated by a notorious pro-Wenger moderator. What was previously a message that contained no profanity and made a comment on a real life event has now been manipulated by a deliberately provocative title. An old and crude propaganda and censorship technique.

The conservatives won for a number of reasons IMO.

Firstly, none of the other leaders we electable, (Johnson was) Corbyn was very unpopular and Swinson utterly unconvincing but the way the parties colluded to block every attempt to break the deadlock did them no favours, to people watching it just seemed like they were looking after their own interests and looking to block Johnson at every opportunity, they voted against everything, went to court and even threatened to take over parliament all things which should never have happened IMO.

Labours' manifesto was also pie in the sky, full of promises of this that and the other none of it really believable. What also did help the opposition was their focus on Johnson, constantly stating how he can't be trusted and can't be allowed to lead rather than focussing on the positives their party brings, not the way to win votes.

The opposition parties got too cocky IMO, let's not forget the country voted to leave a few years back, but they treated democracy with contempt and paid the price.

Labour, the Lib Dems and the DUP must be licking their wounds this morning because it's really gone pearshaped for all of them, from a position of power they now have little or no say, they would have been better off being more agreeable and more willing to come to a compromise, instead they felt empowered and in the end the country voted against them in huge numbers.

The so called pie in the sky is what is obtainable in well known communist countries like Scandinavian and Germany Holland etc. People refuse to educate themselves on what is important and what is transient. What should concern most adults is what kind of country they leave behind for their kids. A known scam artist is telling you something and a principled person is offering you an alternative and again you fall for the con man. France, Germany, Japan etc all have nationalised the core industries such as rail and power, health and education. Providing good modern services at the lowest possible cost. In the UK that is now considered radical. No in the UK they prefer Nuclear weapons, because having those make you sleep at night so much more secure than Italians and Swiss who have to cower at night in fear of Putin.

basically the country's finished because we now have a far-right government which will leave the EU, sell the NHS to the US, and shut down the BBC

meanwhile the scots will go independent, so without theri votes what's left of the UK will be Tory for the foreseeable future

    just to cheer you up...

Is it wise to have a thread like this ?

There are 2 subjects that maybe should not be talked about, its obvious what they are.

I could tell you how I feel about Johnson winning and Corbyn being crushed but it would only cause arguments and bad feeling.

Nationalised industries are great in theory, the reality is that when they are nationalised they are inefficient and waste a lot of money, the NHS is an example. Privatisation is all about profit so that's not perfect either, what you need is something in between where there is some accountability and motivation to improve.

As ever everyone has their own view, some believe staying in the EU is the answer others believe otherwise and that's fine, not everyone will agree on things, that's life, there's no right or wrong.

The government is actually quite a centre government, not far right.

As for the scots, few issues with this, firstly they need to get a referendum which is unlikely, secondly they would need to win and that's not a foregone conclusion as it's still very much split, historically people voted labour in Scotland not Conservative, the SNP are there only viable option now not solely for independence, as I said plenty of people who wish to remain as part of the UK voted for them. Thirdly Scotland would need to reapply to re-join the EU and the EU are unlikely to let them back in (they have insinuated as much in the past I believe) because they don't want to encourage other states to breakaway and think they can do the same (e.g. Barcelona).

    Right. And that’s fine.
If that was the level of debate then I’d be a bit more comfortable with the result.
But Boris basically won because he’s funny.
It’s cult of personality and the fact that most of what he says is demonstrably untrue just doesn’t matter to people.
