The government has no money. When are you going to grasp that very simple concept? Whatever "cap" has been imposed simply means the excess can be hidden and added to your debt, and you kid's debt. Would be far better to know how much they are robbing from you.

I've always grasped it. As you say, it's a simple concept which pretty much everyone understands, it's not some deep insight that you uniquely have.

Yes. I literally said that all they've done is kick the can down the road. I agree with Starmer, they should have done it via a windfall tax.
But at least they're doing something to help people. Even if it is the wrong thing, it does at least help people in the immediate crisis.

By the way, I realised tonight that Liz Truss is younger than me
I can't help feel I've failed in my career.

Mini budget today in which tax cuts are expected to be announced.
And they're increasing the amount of spending.
I see no flaw in this plan.

Reaganomics innit, set the bull loose and all that shit

Removing the cap on bankers bonuses, seems to be an admission that the only way we seem to know how to grow an economy in this country is murky financial transactions

What did the bonus cap do anyway? It’s not like the bonus payments were from the government nor was the money “saved” by the bank paid in tax either.

One thing I’ve found amusing is watching some of the remainers bang on about brexit being bad because all the bankers are leaving for Frankfurt/Paris etc and how this is damaging the uk economy. Now these same people are arguing thay trying to keep said bankers is now bad

Who knows how this will go but given the Labour Party have spent the last few months demanding the corporation tax increase & national insurance increase are cancelled, it’ll be fun watching them now demand they are kept in place
