It's better to burn out, than to fade away.

So the officials are saying it would be ok otherwise?

You understand that this stuff is complicated, right?
And data is difficult to analyse and can be interpreted different ways?

They’re dealing with a virus which affects people very differently because people are different.
Their immune systems are different, they have different ages and levels of health.

I don’t know why you’d expect them to have clear data on all this yet.
This isn't some virus from Planet X. It's SARS-CoV-2, the one that follows on from the related SARS-CoV-1, which was doing the rounds in 2003. That's quite a lot of time to brush up. Sure, it has differences, but it's not completely alien. And there are already treatments being used in other countries that suppress it.

Genuine experts aren't making the decisions and they aren't getting the platforms to speak. And even when one of them manages to break through and get some information out they are either abducted or called a conspiracy theorist.

I get it, this is all about you wanting to be on TV isn't it?

    That's an interesting point.

My daughter was very upset when school and exams were suspended because she's done a shit ton of revision and was going to do very well in those exams. So she viewed all her work as having been wasted.

I told her to keep on revising because the point is not only to get exam grades but also understand the subject.

Don't be silly dad, she said. The revision is so you can memorise what's going to come up on the tests.

So you're right. What do I know about modern education?

What I do know though is what the results of the modern education system has prepared the world for. While we wrestle with the weighty global issues such as the rights of transgenders in a white racist patriarchy, a virus is rampaging around the globe while tenured geniuses hold their hands up and state, well nobody could have predicted that!

At some point you have to call these people out for their performance rather than just accepting their legitimacy because they came top of the class.

He's not going to be back for a while by all accounts. He could even be irrelevant by the time he returns. I can't see the Tories sitting quietly in class while teacher is out.

A phrase I imagine she has to use quite frequently.
