I estimate this absurd figure of 10,000 deaths FROM COVID19 will eventually turn out to be as low as a fifth or maybe a quarter of that when standard medical practices are re-applied at some future date when the panic has subsided.
I was reading the latest reports from the US CDC, along with their historical data related to global influenza, and if trends continue, COVID19 will likely cause a number of deaths between one fifth to one third of the total influenza deaths recorded in 2018.
Why they are hyping the death toll, as they have hyped the estimates since day one, is a question proper scientists and historians will have to answer in the future.
The politics of this crisis have become far more virulent than the disease itself. The media is now busying itself with demanding meaningless apologies from ministers as opposed to looking at the numbers in a scientific manner. It's an utterly disgusting turn of events. We've gone from all being in this together, a society mucking in to face a crisis, to bitter division caused by lowlife in the media and whoever they represent.
I wonder, did surprise and fear ripple through the establishment when it saw people coming together and street after street looking out for itself without the need for the big brother apparatus of the state? Whatever the reason, this feels very different to how it did a couple of weeks ago.

Don't like the man, but he, along with the American health services, have done a surprisingly good job.
California has done a good job too, and that really could have been a hellhole. They did a good job during the 1918/19 pandemic too.
