Nick Triggle, whoever you are, well done!
And Prof Sir David Spiegelhalter, real scientist.
This is the story that should be leading the news and properly informing people.

Triggle strikes again. More useful information.

Does this imply deaths occurring as a result of the lockdown have started to rival the already inflated virus death toll? I've seen several doctors plead with sufferers of non-COVID19 illnesses and diseases to attend hospital as normal. But attendance rates remain significantly low. There's not one shred of proof from anywhere in the world that Imperial College's dire guesstimates would have likely occurred in the absence of a lockdown. To be fair, not as much was known about the virus (allegedly) at the time those predictions were being made. But somebody better be looking past COVID19 and at the potentially much larger consequences of this lockdown. We don't hear much about that, other than speculation along the lines of "the cure could be worse than the disease." Maybe it will be, and to a much greater degree.

Exactly what I was going to say, Mac.
Obviously I don't play in that sandpit, or I wouldn't have linked the story at all. When the BBC is pushing fake news, I say the BBC is pushing fake news. When they resort to reporting actual news, I say they are reporting actual news. This seems the fairest way to go about things.

Well that's an assertion rather than a statement carrying any substance.
My position has been clear enough. The media has mainly engaged in rolling death tolls and blame games. I've called that out. I also called out the unscientific nature of the modelling. As well as the 180 degree reversals performed by the media hacks as we went from the "flu" state they themselves pushed, through the herd immunity phase which they dutifully repeated and now onto the recriminations phase of the game. All of that has been fake news because it failed to inform in any meaningful manner. If news doesn't inform then it can't be news, it must be something else.
I have also, on plenty of occasions, highlighted actual news that sometimes made an appearance further down the page or buried on the inside pages. Actual news because it was informative and based on evidence and standards applied science.
That's what you'll actually find in the thread in terms of my contributions. As well as personal opinion that is never labelled as news, of course.
But it's a free world, to an extent, so if you prefer to jump on the political hackery, mainstream nose-ring bandwagon you're perfectly entitled. I remember you asking, right back at the start of this, why did I persist in asking questions. It was a strange question back then and this latest post is equally weird. Like a recurring reprimand for having opinions or presenting information that runs against an approved line.
