I'm broadly on Starmer's side but it's got to be said that anyone who wears a suit and tie for a video call is being a w*nker

High Speed 2 Notice to Proceed has been issued by government. To protect the construction industry, they say.

Has anyone travelled into London recently by car? What's the situation there? Can you still drive around freely, have routes been closed or redirected? Are there cops stopping you? Has the congestion charge actually been switched off or do you still have to register. Etc. Etc. I tried to find definitive answers on this but found contradictory information in almost all cases. What's the reality, from somebody who has actually experienced it?

Last I heard the congestion charge had been waived but that was from a few weeks ago when a colleague had to go into the office to get something.
He had no problems and the traffic was very light.
I don't know if things have changed since.

Pretty sure congestion charge is waived at the moment. I need to go into my office this week and I sure as hell won’t be getting on a train, so driving it is. Will be interesting to see what central London is like.

Nothing should ever happen just to create jobs - there are always other projects that actually have a benefit, rather than - in this case - creating a white elephant and tearing up large tracts of unspoilt countryside in the process

Another stupid decision by a pathetic and destructive government

I assume testing will be stringent, unlike the nonsense that's currently going on at the airports and ports.

This was one of the issues I was most concerned about. Any bad policy here could have had very serious consequences.
