Did I hear correctly that pubs/bars/restaurants now have to by law take your personal details? And keep it for 21 days.
Yes, when you put it like that...
But I think a difference between us is you seem to see this as some Machiavellian plot to restrict our freedom.
I see it as a response to a crisis.
I’m not saying it’s the right response.
And I’m not saying that some people aren’t taking advantage of the situation to make money.
I was watching Ozark and the wife of the main couple says in one episode
“There’s a saying in politics, never let a good crisis go to waste”.
But it is a response to the situation, not an oppressive government trying to control us.
Maybe you don’t think the latter, but that’s how it comes across.
I didn't put it that way - the BBC did.
Where did I mention some giant plot?
I'm talking about the principles of liberty. Either they exist or they don't.
We have a government to ORGANISE the practicalities of our democratic will - ALLEGEDLY. That's the scarcely believable cover story, at least. In what universe could that ever, possibly extend to telling human beings who they can and can't associate with? Can you not even glimpse the chasm between what they pretend the source of their authority is derived from, and the actual exercise of that authority?
Is there a limit to what you will apologise for, or is it like the universe? Infinite in scope?

Für eure Sicherheit
That was already put in place when our lords and masters granted permission for us to re-engage in limited commerce and anti-social socialising, wasn't it? Maybe they didn't enforce it, and now they have decided that, for the common good of something or another, they ought to reveal themselves as the East German not so secret police. A lot of those cunts came over here when the Berlin Wall went down, btw. Signed up with the M incompetents and taught them new tricks. Seems to have worked. Full marks.
But if we allow a diseased pig to tear our collective trousers down with its rancid snout and stick its scaly and wart ridden penis up our arsehole and thrust until we are bloody, before jetting its putrid load deep into the colon (which is the most appropriate description of modern politics I can come up with, even though it in no way does justice to the vile nature of the thing), maybe we, the people, deserve what we get.
Für eure Sicherheit
They were to request a person's details but no it is by law that they have to.
This is all going well.
Fine. When one puts it that way.
Right. The way you come across it seems like you think that "they" are sitting around twirling their moustaches and laughing evilly about how they are controlling and oppressing us.Where did I mention some giant plot?

Maybe that isn't what you think, but that's how I always think of you.
Liberty doesn't exist in the way I think you define it, and I'd suggest it shouldn't exist in the context of living in a society.
If you want to go live on a desert island then you can do what you want.
In a complicated and intricately interconnected society there have to be rules and restrictions, that's the price of living in a society.
Because pretty much anything you do affects other people.
Which isn't what is happening. It's the group size which is being restricted. See who you like, just not all at the same time.In what universe could that ever, possibly extend to telling human beings who they can and can't associate with?
I'm not saying I agree with the policy - it make zero sense when within the last week Boris demanded that more people get back to the office and insisted kids go to schools.
So it's fine for school classes to mix, go and pack yourselves like sardines on trains again. But don't see your mates in large groups.
That makes zero sense.
BUT...my point is they are doing it in an effort to stop the spread of the virus. I'm not defending what they're doing, I'm simply saying that I don't believe their motive for doing it is to control or oppress us.
