When I went into the office on Thursday a colleague who I hadn’t seen in ages gave me a hug.
    Surprised I’m not dead tbh.

    There's still time.
NOTE: The location of this post has been moved and the thread title (which was previously Wenger is Leaving) has been manipulated by a notorious pro-Wenger moderator. What was previously a message that contained no profanity and made a comment on a real life event has now been manipulated by a deliberately provocative title. An old and crude propaganda and censorship technique.

The life expectancy in the UK is 81.15 years. https://www.statista.com/statistics/...gdom-all-time/

The average age of people who die as a result where Covid-19 is a factor is 82.4. https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/a...s-82-pcwqrzdzz

So, we are shutting everything down, destroying viable businesses, imprisoning students and robbing an entire generation of a future to protect those who were likely going to die anyway - either just when they did, or shortly afterwards.

The government says that it is putting the restrictions in place because they are following the science. If true, great! Share the scientific data and the information derived from that data. But they don't. And the reporting of meaningful information on the profile of the population of those who died where coronavirus was a factor has been deliberately suppressed. Young people and others who put five minutes of thought into this can only arrive at one conclusion - this is a bad disease, a pain in the arse (sometimes) if you contract it, but ultimately it does fuck all harm. You contract it, you lay low for a while, it passes and then you get on with your life.

If that conclusion is wrong, and there is in fact data that provides information that the conclusion that appears to be staring us in the face is wrong, then publish it - demonstrate that it has provided the information to support all the government's actions. It isn't - or shouldn't be secret. It is time for the government to put up or shut up, let us interpret the information, determine our own risk tolerance and get on with our lives.

The good post is for all of that but particularly this. I found this:

For every 1,000 people infected with the coronavirus who are under the age of 50, almost none will die. For people in their fifties and early sixties, about five will die — more men than women. The risk then climbs steeply as the years accrue. For every 1,000 people in their mid-seventies or older who are infected, around 116 will die.
    Source: https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-020-02483-2

Basically, for most people in the population this thing is not going to kill you.
Can’t we make our own assessment of whether we are at risk and make our own decisions.

Now, of course in a complicated society our decisions don’t just affect ourselves, we might not be at risk but people we encounter may be. And we do need to make sure the NHS doesn’t get overwhelmed with a lot of old, sick people. So I have no issue with some steps being taken.
But shutting down the entire economy with all the ramifications that is going to have over the next decade. That was complete bullshit.

this is what's is causing so much cynicism - the death rate isn't rising and whenever you talk to anyone about if they know anyone who's had it, , they might k now one or two people, no-one knows anyone who's died.

    no-one's buying this

I'd settle for this and accept the outcome. Provided BOTH sides of the argument are considered rather than just the stuff from "the science" people who have held sway to date. AND provided there was an independent investigation (a real one) into why sick people were sent into care homes.

They are rising. Just looking at one day is simplistic, a rolling 3 or 7 day average smoothes out the bumps. BUT, right now they are still pretty low. Cases are high but because it’s mostly young people getting it no one is dying.
I’m keeping an eye on it, who knows what the numbers will do next?
My gut feel is we aren’t going to have a huge second wave in terms of deaths but we will see.

Cases are NOT high. Positive tests, which aren't real tests, are high. There are about 500 cases nationally I think, or that was the count a few days ago. On a positive note, we've cured flu and pneumonia which are at all time lows.

    Fine, positive tests are high.
Where did you get the 500 from?
