Because they feed into the culture we now live in where we have to increasingly tiptoe around not trying to offend people. Is that the kind of society we want to live in?
Sure, we shouldn't go out of our way to offend people but when people go out of their way to be offended then I think we all have a collective responsibility to tell them to grow up and stop whining.

I don’t think you’ve done that article justice either. You highlighted the part about how she was feeling and questioned if blackface was enough to cause that. After reading the article it seems like those feelings were more born about what came after and her feelings of being ostracized from her peers.

I get there is an issue of people being offended for the sake of it but I don’t believe this is an example of that.

An overreaction from my perspective sure. The point is I don’t understand either scenario because I’m not black nor am I a pre-op trans. I don’t know why these things trigger you.

Odd way to behave though, seeing as we're all colour blind. Or has that changed now? Is that why we have BLACK lives matter, and ALL lives matter is seen as racist by some? It's almost as if the real racists are the ones shouting about skin colour all the time.

I know this isn't really allowed in internet debates, but I think I'm going to pretty much concede the point here.
Must admit I didn't really read the article before I posted it. So fine, it does sound like the Uni could have handled things better.
But I also think the faux outrage which was at the root of all this was an overreaction to something which was clearly intended to be humorous even if it was in bad taste.
If we are going to stop humour being offensive then we're in trouble.
