    From the NY times
The House impeached President Trump for inciting an insurrection against the government, and 10 Republicans joined Democrats to do so. Senator Mitch McConnell said he would not agree to use emergency powers to bring the Senate back into session for a trial before Jan. 19.

    Dream on chaps
He beat a bad rap twice....twice. Now he can do a spinarroonie on the House floor. Suckas!

Tell you what. The Dems can go on impeaching him every day for the next week. make him impossible to beat

    10 times! 10 times I tell ya.

You're a bunch of vengeful children. Just like the Dems

    Beat a bad rap.
Your mates voting to get you off of a charge you clearly did is hardly a sign of innocence.
Even if you think the first one was a Trumped () up charged, he’s bang to rights on this one.
It’s impossible to argue that the events in Washington last week weren’t directly caused by Trump’s rhetoric over the last couple of months.
70 million people voted for him. Spending 2 months constantly telling them that he (and therefore they) had been robbed - without providing any evidence - is going to make a lot of people angry.
He called for protests on the 6th and even attended, making a speech to whip up the crowd.
He may not have directly called for violence (although he gave a platform to Giuliani, who pretty much did), but you whip up that many people and it’s not a huge surprise when it all boils over.
I’ve heard anecdotal evidence that Trump was delighted when it did. Because of course he was. He’s a narcissist, of course he loves the idea that “the people” are fighting for him to stay in power.
He apparently couldn’t understand why no one else was delighted.
It was obviously explained to him, presumably with sock puppets, that he was in serious shit.
But even in his speech when he asked people to go home he repeated the lies which brought them there in the first place

Someone has clearly finally got through to him and his tone since has been...well, it’s been almost Presidential. Although it’s far too little too late.
If he is acquitted then let’s be clear, it’ll be for political reasons, not because he’s innocent.
As I said, it’s like how Tory MPs were saying that Theresa May wasn’t fit to be leader of the party but when there was a vote of confidence in her in parliament suddenly decided that she was fit to run the country.
Because obviously they’re not going to vote to remove their own Prime Minister and remove themselves from power.
Th situation is different here, Trump won’t be President anyway. But he’ll still have a lot of supporters and Republicans will probably vote to acquit him to not incur their wrath.

Even if they do, he remains a one term President and the only one in history to be impeached twice.
    In brief: Orange Man Bad.

Handy way to remember Trump's latter years, like the wives of Henry VIII:

    Elected, Impeached, Survived,
    Defeated, Impeached, Died*.

    *spoiler alert.

You do realise that the senate can still hold the trial after he has left office right?

While that means he wont be kicked out of office before his term ends on the 20th, he can be banned from standing for public office again if the senate convict

I’m not sure why you think i have boundless optimism here?

All I’ve done is point out what could happen in the senate. After trump leaves, teh democrats have a majoirty but not a 2/3rds one so it still seems unlikely they will impeach either now or after he leaves office.

...it's not "optimism", it's how the process works. The next step is the "trial" in the Senate.
All that's happened is that they've said they're not going to try and rush that through before Trump leaves office, there is no need to.
    The trial will still happen.

And before you get too excited about his potential acquittal, it's worth nothing that no president in history has been convicted.
Because you need a two thirds majority and in a two party system that's quite hard to achieve.
The difference here is the person being convicted will no longer be President, so the Republicans could turn against him to distance themselves from him.
Suspect it's unlikely though, Trump is still popular enough that too many of them will be scared of alienating his fanbase.

Something like 50m people still believe the lie that the election was fraudulent.

Mind you, MAGA cultists were attempting to execute Mike Pence last week, who's been as loyal as anyone.

    That's the real TDS.
NOTE: The location of this post has been moved and the thread title (which was previously Wenger is Leaving) has been manipulated by a notorious pro-Wenger moderator. What was previously a message that contained no profanity and made a comment on a real life event has now been manipulated by a deliberately provocative title. An old and crude propaganda and censorship technique.
