Aye, sometimes good to throw away a guess to eliminate some possibilities.
An acceptable 4 from me. And a commendable 3 in Nerdle

A mate got a 1 recently

so i've tried a couple of words so far and what i'm left with leaves me with no options that i can think of - i genuinely don't think i know today's word...

I did know the word and got it a slightly annoying 4.
Annoying because after my first 2 guesses I did consider the eventual answer but then rejected it. So I used my 3rd guess as a throwaway one to eliminate letters. And that pointed me back to the answer.

It was RUPEE - as in the Indian currency. Which is why I dismissed it, as I didn't think that would be it. My guesses were:
STARE - which gave me a yellow R and a green E.
DRONE - yellow R, green E.
Then I thought about it for a bit, considered RUPEE but thought that unlikely so I did
BLIMP - to eliminate some letters. I got a yellow P which pointed me back at RUPEE

Got today in 4 too which I'm content with given my first two guesses didn't give me much

still struggling with Nerdle but i realised for the first time today that you could have more than one part to the sum - my second guess was actually quite strong but i was basically experimenting after that - hopefully i'll get the hang of it one day but it still feels vastly more complicated than Wordle
