Damn I never thought of that.
It is a valid argument that players do pay a lot of tax and that goes to the NHS etc. However, two points detract from that argument currently. The first is that as you mention, currently their tax is going back into the clubs to pay their non playing staff rather than NHS.
second is this. https://www.itv.com/news/2019-01-21/...tax-avoidance/
now most players will just go and do what their accountants tell them to do but that is quite a high number being investigated
Pep's mum has died - tweet from Man City: "Manchester City - The Manchester City family are devastated to report the death today of Pep’s mother Dolors Sala Carrió in Manresa, Barcelona after contracting Corona Virus. She was 82-years-old ."

What a bottle job.
Why don't the players pay the wages of the non-playing staff? That's what quite a few players are doing in the States. I'm guessing Ozil could probably handle the whole payroll himself and have plenty left over. Let them put their hand in their pockets instead of kissing badges, if they really love the club so much.
And the question is asked, why should they? Because a lot of people are chipping in right now, whether they want to or not. The fans have thrown wheelbarrows of cash at these players, you might think the players could spare a bit of change from down the back of the sofa? To do their bit.
