This just puts football further beyond the reach of its core following.

The further they push it away from its base, the less likely it is to be successful. Prior to Covid, we already saw half empty stadiums for European football, here and elsewhere, in both competitions.

It will be much more expensive to run a European league although there is potentially a chance they could administer a cap on wages. But to administer such a cap, they will need a strong culture of effective corporate governance to avoid circumvention of such a cap. Luckily for football, its club owners and game administrators are a shining beacon of probity in anotherwise murky and corrupt cesspit of greed.

If this were to ever happen and sadly it does seem like it could, I hope all fans unite and boycott this nonsense.

You assume they give a shit about the fans here at home. If 20 million Asians hit the PPV button the clubs won't even remember there are fans who grew up with the club. They already yuppified the game, so half the fans are day-trippers anyway. Bet they convert most of the seats to new corporate boxes. Can't stand, can't wave a banner, can't swear, can't be mean to the overpaid tossers on the pitch? Just sit down, shut it and eat your prawn sandwich that cost a tenner?

Apparently it would just be the same teams involved every year, completely ridiculous.

It would surely destroy the majority of the teams not involved, as domestic interest would inevitably drop and commercial opportunities would dry up.

I'm guessing what will happen is that the selected clubs will be allowed to have 2 distinct squads. One for domestic competition and another for the European league. More revenue but more games. Its likely the under 23 team will become the PL team. Maybe Ozil can make that squad.
