Sam Allardyce sent England's players a signed postcard declaring 'our journey has begun' to congratulate them on the World Cup qualifying win over Slovakia.

But the surprised Three Lions squad only received the note after the disgraced boss had been sacked by the Football Association following damaging revelations in a newspaper sting.

Allardyce was removed from his job as national boss on Tuesday - the same day the postcard was sent out - after it emerged he used his position to explore the possibility of earning extra money while also handing out advice on how to get around FA transfer rules on third party ownership.

Will he send a follow-up - "We have reached our final destination."

Rooney for England Manager?

No wait, bear with me. Surely there's an advantage to appointing a complete flop who can consistently put in shit performances and get paid a fortune for doing so? Isn't that the very definition of the England manager's job? And when you are already loved (not necessarily in a sexual way, but that's okay too) then wouldn't the media finally be behind the manager come what may, no matter what the outcome? And we'd get that consistency and longevity we've been missing. I can easily see Wazza in the job for 30 years without so much as a whimper from the press, regardless of how much humiliation was added to the album.

But perhaps too soon. Shrek is still a world class player after all. Isn't he?

Never really bought this idea of the manager having to be English. I guess that's the ideal but he's not out there kicking the ball, so long as the players are English I don't care as much about the rest of the supporting cast.
