I like how there seems to be a social networking aspect to the site in terms of groups, tagging, friends etc. Gives it an added dimension.

Yeah. Look at the Notifications at the top, next to your username.

Yes! It's a good way of drawing someone's attention to a topic etc!

Also, as @Marc Overmars said... it adds a new dimension to the forum... bringing you more inline with Social Networking etc... !
