It’s a film who gives a shit, you either prefer ONJ as the buttoned up 1950s house wife attire pure and innocent or you prefer her wearing enough hairspray to incapacitate a small crowd and a figure hugging black leather pants and top smoking.

Oh it creates the wrong impression for women on how they should dress to get a guy?

Again are you a woman? (That’s not a rhetorical question by the way)

    No

You don't think the things people watch/see/read have an influence?
Course they do, that's why they make adverts.

Look, this isn't the worst thing, I just don't like the message it sends to young girls.

I think a) the influence is overstated and b) it’s a woman’s problem not mine. I’m all up for equality but it doesn’t mean I have to give a shit about “women’s issues” that’s the trade off, that modern feminists are trying to backslide on that agreement by saying men must do this that or the other….it all falls apart.

It's nothing to do with equality or feminism. I just think there's a general principle that young people, who I'd suggest are more influenced that most, should have positive messages rather than negative.
Like I said, it's not that big a deal. It just rankles a bit.

Maybe the issue is that we rely on media to instill morality

It’s the same as expecting sport stars to be role models. Years ago it was expected that footballers would be sub human degenerates who gamble, drink and whore their way through their career. Now they are all bland and lacking in character.

Young girls are far more influenced by their peers, that’s why trans is now as much a product of social contagion as self harming and anorexia were.

Plus you seem to be missing one key point, you’re talking about a film that is almost 45 years ago and purporting to take place in the 1950s. Even the thickest child can see that the value system isn’t contemporary.

I don't expect them to, but like it or not it has an influence.

    That is certainly true.

Well yeah, that's a fair point.

how likely is it really to see a child say "huh, that sucks, the value system isn’t contemporary"

Are you being facetious or are you actually that dim?
