First time I had seen 'Planes Trains And Automobiles' all the way through for years. Still brilliant. Key to it is its simplicity, therefore letting the characters carry the comedy (as funny as the situations themselves are too of course). Martin playing the comic foil for a change was a good alteration of pace that came off too.

I feel the same about people like Schama and Dawkins. For a couple of seconds they speak a bit of sense and don't go to idiotic extremes, especially if they're not actually giving their own opinion, but then they can't help themselves.

Also: The 7.39. Good little two parter about a married man (David Morrissey, his wife is played by Olivia Coleman) and an engaged woman (Sheridan Smith) who meet on the 7.39 train each morning and inevitably end up having an affair. Good as you'd expect with a cast like that.

Interesting.

Rough calculation. I'm guessing corporate welfare has outstripped social welfare at a rate of 2000:1 since 2008. Corporate handouts (without taking into account the endless intangibles) are running near the $15trillion mark since 2008. 2000:1 is probably a huge underestimation.

For GoT, get a couple of stills from season one, preferably the bit where the blonde is being shagged like a dog, knock one out and that's GoT covered.

Nuclear bomb threat - islamic terrorists series 2,4 and 6

The best series is clearly the first one....Dennis Hopper as Serbian War Criminal.

Never saw 24 back during the original run.

Worth watching?

Yes and No, the first series is brilliant...the second series whilst not as good also has it plus points, the third wains a bit but has a lot of interesting plot twists....after that it's all downhill and samey.

I thought you were supposed to be watching Breaking Bad? Have you done that yet?

And please, no excuses.

As for 24 - it's absolutely the worst pile of gung-ho American crap ever, like a ham-fisted version of Olympus Has Fallen, which as we know is the worst film ever made. In 24 all the bomb throwing, no respect for human life baddies talk like zis and the psycho baddies are offly British don't you know, all the goodies agonise before and after brutally torturing or murdering everyone in sight. Kim Bauer has amazing tits but they don't compensate for the rest of her, particularly her mouth which flaps relentlessly and somehow doesn't get shot off, considering how gratuitously violent the show is as a matter of course. But, if you can put aside these various flaws, it's horribly watchable due to the real time format. Series one is okay, a novelty that wears off by the end, season two is actually quite good, the rest is a rerun of everything that went before and suffers badly from having a character called Audrey Wells in it.

Is that the one where Hopper wears a false nose and a dark cape and goes, "Wah, ha, ha...", every 2 mins? And has a secret hide out, and stays suspended in mid air for 5 seconds when he runs over a cliff edge and then makes a big dent in the ground when he falls but is still alive?

Niall_Quinn

So what did we learn from 24?

1. Same plot, different city.
2. Anyone who opposes state criminality is a goth.
3. Julian Assange has really got up their arseholes.

Roll on episode 3 where Jack will attempt to thwart psycho turrurists from disrupting a Monsanto prayer summit.

If you've yet to see any of the Sky Atlantic/NetFlix dramas (firstly, where on earth have you been?!), I'd definitely go for Breaking Bad as the grand-daddy of them all. Just goes to show you don't need to sex up or broadcast gratuitous violence in order for a show to be watchable.

However, I'd work up to Breaking Bad, because after that, nothing else comes close.

Perhaps watch The Wire, True Detective (sex and violence, yes, but incredibly acted by the star leads) and Mad Dogs (if only for it's surreal stupidity) are a good warm-up.

Maybe controversial that I haven't included GoT in that list but, as Quinny mentioned, it really isn't all it's made out to be. It's essentially the Man City of dramas- for all the money thrown at it, you expect more.
