I think he'll be alright by late May, probably. No idea where he'll end up in terms of seeding by then though having said that.

I do want Fed to win one more major by hook or by crook. Preferably 20 more really but one is fine, as he'd have the same amount as Jack Nicklaus; granted, that's in a different sport.

I don't think Muzza has much of a chance on clay.

which is odd given the time he had playing on it during his formative years. he's hit the semi's of the french before and with questions marks over how long feds and nadals legs will hold up, he'll get a good crack at it i think. the djo/murray rivalry looks like one to takeover from those two.

McNamara That Ghost...
12-09-2012, 09:54 PM
He'd need to avoid David Ferrer on clay too really. I don't think there should be too much of a question mark over Federer's legs, not yet anyway. He's a younger 31 than all his rivals will be!

Murray doesn't play with huge amounts of top spin like Federer and Nadal do - that's one of the reasons those two have been bar by the best clay court players for most of the time. Those two and Djokovic are all much better at direction changes in their hitting than I would say Murray is, plus there is the issue with sliding in to shots, something Djokovic is insane at.

For the ties there are five matches:
Single player (Arg) vs Single Player (Cze)
Single player 2 (Arg) vs Single player 2 (Cze)
Doubles vs Doubles.
Then the reversed singles matches Single Player 2 (Arg) vs Single player (Cze). So in this case Berdych will play Del Potro either tomorrow or Sunday.

The winner of each match scores a point for their team.

The whole Davis Cup though is confusing, there are group matches going on at the same time - I think it's to try and get their nation in to a 'zone' where they can go on and compete in the World Group for each year it is contested.

As for the tournament itself.

You have to get the most Points and the team with less by certain point gets relegated from the main stage back to its continent Zone.

So for example if GB got Relegated, we'd have to go back to the Euro Zone and qualify to get back into the main stage.

Roger Federer is surprised and disappointed at the level of attention given to a death threat he received.

The threat towards the Swiss world number one was posted online via one of his fans' websites.

"I'm a bit disappointed that it became a lot more public and came out in the press," Federer said.

"It was very small on a website, nothing very clear and concrete - people debating. To make that kind of big news is a bit surprising for me." Federer is in China for the Shanghai Masters, where he is being chaperoned by a large security presence.

The local chief of police has also said he will boost the police presence around the ATP event at the Qi Zhing tennis centre.

Federer revealed that he first learned of the threat around 10 days ago, and stressed that it had no bearing on the decision of his wife and children not to travel to Shanghai with him.

"I don't want to talk too much about it." Federer added.

"I've felt very safe here, the authorities have been wonderful, the government has been very supportive and I've felt great since I've been here.

"Obviously it's been a different type of preparation and it's a little bit of a distraction - there's no doubt about it.

"You have to be aware of what's happening around about you but that is the case anywhere today with my fame and all that stuff.

"But it's been fine. I'm happy I'm here and I feel I'll have a good preparation to start on Wednesday or Thursday."
