Australia beat India by 8 wickets in the first test.
Aussies 191 in the first innings, India 244.
India skittled out for 36 in the second innings. Thirty Six. Lowest total any international team has made since the 1950's. :haha:

Agreed although I think it would be hard to argue that the declaration lost us the test (and not saying you are saying that) but yeah there’s no need to declare full stop in a first innings unless you’ve been batting for two days and want to make sure you can win over five days.
I think ultimately they have a better bowling attack than us, relying on Jimmy Anderson seems daft…Ollie Robinson is ok. Broad is still good but getting on and never rated Moen Ali before he retired. Losing Jofra Archer was a blow, his pace would taken the Aussies out of their comfort zone.
In many respects we are lucky that Smith and Labuschagne have been shit otherwise we’d have got an absolute pasting “Baz-Ball” or not

Lot of whinging about the Bairstow stumping
I thought was legitimate wicket , and no reason shouldn’t be just because Bairstow assumed the over was concluded
And this idea that England wouldn’t have done exactly the same as Australia in their position is bullshit
That said, the Australians are in no position to call us bad sports when they have a history of histrionics like bullying players to walk when they’ve run out of referrals….Ricky Ponting on TMS is just a massive hypocrite

I can’t comment because as I recall I was watching the Wimbledon final (still haven’t gotten over how Federer failed to win that match) because I tend not to have as much interest in one day cricket. It’s kind of Test or nothing for me (I did keep up to date with the scores in the final but that was it) but do remember what you’re referring to and even umpire admitted he made mistake (though claimed there was no video replay)

I can’t remember a more frustrating series than this, the last three series’ in Australia we were never in it and you just had to shrug your shoulders. Even in 2019, we were well beaten at Edgbaston and Old Trafford.
Where as you can make the case for saying we could have won the first two test matches, not because we are better than Australia quite the opposite they definitely have a stronger side than us (though I think they’ve missed Nathan Lyon in this test). But because we insist on making things difficult for ourselves…declaring at Edgbaston and throwing wickets away in the second innings there and the first innings at Lords.
Australia have very much played within themselves, where as we’ve been utterly reckless/casual at times
Hopefully a bit of momentum carries us forward at Old Trafford, and maybe some batting coaching to say you don’t need to play at everything…it’s ok to leave certain things…it’s test cricket after all.

I hate the boorish England fans, who are happy to celebrate an illegitimate World Cup 'win' and the recent fuss over a legitimate stumping has made me want England want to losr mote than ever, ok so well done to Beardie Tattoo Man for winning the march, fair dues, but either it was a very difficult wicket or test cricket is in its last death throes for all the scores to be this low

120 runs put on in morning session
Dare we consider the prospect of an innings victory.

422-4…can we bat the Aussies out of this test today?
I'm not watching but if it's that kind of pitch that England can get that score then the Aussies are just as capable of getting 600

Possibly but then you’d have to ask yourself why they didn’t do that when they batted first, when the pitch and the wicket was at its most amenable.
The fact that there have been a lot of clean bowls from Australia, suggests it’s not going to be a good wicket to bat on from here on in…especially with changeable weather

Yeah the Australians have this won. Can blame the weather but we knew what to expect and our bowling yesterday was poor. Should have put in Wood from the off before the light turned

The day much like the Ashes itself, proved to be a bit of a damp squib for England
Still though after four tests I feel I can say if Australia are the best side in the world currently then Test Cricket is in the doldrums.
Don’t get me wrong, England are still only marginally better than a few years ago when Steve Smith batted us off the park, but if we’d had Archer and Leach we’d have won this series and by a comfortable margin. Australian batting was mediocre at best, aside from the second innings at Lords their bowling was massively aided by our suicidal tendency to need to play at everything.
Disappointing way for it to end, but ultimately no one to blame but ourselves…how we managed to fuck up at Edgbaston so badly I will never know. Oh well

At the risk of making an assumption, I don’t think he likes the fact that England only won the 1 day Cricket World Cup because of the umpire not understanding the rules when awarding runs to England in the final against New Zealand.

So final Ashes test at the Oval - had the potential to be a series decider like in 2005 and 2009 but sadly it’s just a dead rubber. Would be nice to level the series like four years ago. Unlike four years ago I think drawn series would be least we deserve, where as Australia were far better than us in 2019
I don’t think England are that good (certainly no where near the level of 10-12 years ago) but neither are the Aussies that marvellous…they have definitely missed Nathan Lyon and will I think continue to miss him today on a surface where I think he’d tear us to bits

This is a lot like the first innings at Edgbaston, Australia defensive fielding allowing England to take singles and England are happy to take them 48-0

283 all out.
On one hand definitely not a batting surface, on the other hand losing seven wickets for less than 100 is pretty disappointing
Apart from Brook no one really got going. Moen Ali actually did ok considering he can barely walk. But a lot of clean bowls

Australia 295 all out. Very frustrating. But it’s been a good test…given they have to bat last it’s far from a disaster but given the weather forecast I wouldn’t bet on a result meaning they will win the series 2-1

Australia looked extraordinarily comfortable. Broad's (deserved let's be fair) testimonial aside the rain may actually do England a favour because they look bereft of ideas.

Wood looks injured
Moen is injured
Bowling attack as well as sloppy fielding has been our downfall this series

Stuart Broad gets the final wicket, to win us the match at the Oval and draw the series. Australia retain the Ashes and lot of frustration over what might have been, but one of the best series’ in my lifetime gets the Hollywood conclusion (of sorts)
So pleased for Broad - maybe my favourite ever England player. Fairytale ending for him and excellent that this England team goes out on a high. For me we were undercooked for the 1st 2 tests and I like the way after that that we tempered Bazball with a little judiciousness. Batting line up now looking more positive than it has done for years. Just need to keep our young bowlers fit now.
Anderson's time is done, sadly. Would have loved to see him finish on a high also.

Good luck with what?
It's a decision that's been made so now it will happen, where's the luck needed?
There's a case as to why it doesn't make sense, based on relative popularity of the men's and women's game, but it's done now - I've no real issue with it tbh

Good luck with what?
With selling tickets for the women's game at the same price as men.
There's no way that would work in football.
I don't care, I'm not in to cricket, but it seems like a strange decision unless there's evidence that demand is the same in the men's and women's game. Is there?

I’ve no issue with it because it’s not coming out of my pocket. But it doesn’t make any sense and it’s a case of unequal outcomes in pursuit of equity. I don’t blame the women for chasing it, I blame the silly people who gave in to them.

Women’s sport is progessing fast in the sports they weren’t previously acknowledged in or funded for.
As Gooners I think we should be proud that a May afternoon on bank holiday weekend was usually Arsenal winning the FA Cup. BBC2, no fans in the ground, and sometimes poor levels of play.
But nonetheless, Womens football (to a degree) is because of that, and because of our club holding it up high.
What’s not to like? It’s still a game of football, and if it keeps attracting a wider fanbase and roots interest, it’s going to be just as exciting to watch in ten years. Good on em.
That said, lets not have it whirlpool into kissing territory every time. Thats not sport, thats bollox

How dead must that wicket be in Pakistan. The Pakistanis put on 556 and you think “yeah that’s England done with”. Nope…England just put on a fourth wicket stand of 400, with Root and Brook putting on over 200 each.
Would be hilarious if we get a 200 odd first innings lead, put the Pakistanis back in and get an innings victory.
You’d most likely be looking at a draw. On a surface like this, it does rather diminish Test Cricket (although for me it’s still by far the most superior form of the game)

Australia vs India in Perth
Australia bounced the Indians out for 150, only for India to dismiss them for even cheaper at 100
India then post 487 for the loss of 6 in their second innings, declare and have taken three Aussie wickets for 12 runs
End of Day three, I highly doubt there will be a Day five
India famously always struggled down under, but have won the last two test series there and likely to go 1-0 in front in the third in six years
