Two seasons from now our profit skyrockets
Cast your mind back to 2004 and Arsenal FC was on the brink of moving into their new home. To help fund the move Arsenal signed up to some long-term shirt sponsorship deals with Nike and Emirates. At the time they were hailed as record-breaking deals but these were soon eclipsed by all of the big teams and Spurs. The deals have been well below market rate for some years now, severely reducing Arsenal’s annual profit and subsequent transfer budget.
This is about to change. In two years time we can expect an extra £30million per season. This is serious wonga. An extra £30m every single season!
To put this into perspective, without player trading and property deals, Arsenal’s annual profit is about £10million. For this to go from £10million to £40million is a big deal.
Sponsorship deals compared with our rivals:
Man U
£20m per yr Aon
£4m per yr DHL for training kit
£24m Nike
Total: £48million per season
Liverpool
£20m Standard Chartered
£25m Warrior Sports
Total: £45million per season
Chelsea
£15m Samsung
£20m Adidas
Total £35 million per season
Arsenal
£5.5m Emirates
£8m Nike
Total: £13.5 million per season
I have left off the stadium naming rights deal as that runs until 2019.
Cynics will say all this is good for is Stan as Wenger won’t/can’t spend it anyway (assuming he’s still the manager). One thing about Stan is that he doesn’t need the cash. Arsenal could well just be a toy for him. He’s a billionnaire in his own right and if that wasn’t enough he’s married into the Walmart family – it doesn’t get any richer than that!
Either way there will be no more excuses in 2014. Arsenal FC will have the cash.
And if Uefa FFP rules are enforced ( :haha: ) Arsenal should be in pole position.
