Why was that remade so soon after the first one?

Serious question as I haven't seen either of them.

'Cos the original is in Swedish as they're Swedish books. Hollywood...hollywooded them.

Cowboy and Aliens - 7/10

Started off well. Went a bit shit though

Killer Elite - 8/10

Didnt realise this was a true story, well based on a book that claims to be true. Good story line, good cast, decent eye candy. Whats not to like? Jason Statham could be one of the all time greats if hes not already

Speaking of which, starting the Transporter trilogy tonight.

If you hadn't heard of this project, the entire Star Wars movie was split into 15 seconds segments, and groups all over the world volunteered to film each 15 second clip. The final cut is what you see below. Enjoy!

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

Saw it, didn't like it, felt the upsetting scenes overshadowed what was a simple storyline with a dark undertone.

I agree that certain scenes seemed to be there just for shock tactics. I always feel that any scene in a film should be there to drive the narrative forward in some way, otherwise it's just decoration. Or depraved decoration in this case.

I did, however, think that it was an excellent film on the whole. I haven't got round to seeing the original Swedish trilogy, so I can't compare, but this was a stylishly filmed thriller, with some welcome twists on the formula. Rooney Mara was outstanding in the lead role. Daniel Craig was good, but the lack of a Swedish accent made his performance seem a bit odd. Christopher Plummer () was brilliant as always, and Stellan Skarsgard and Joely Richardson were effective too. Some elements of the film didn't always gel together and the sudden discovery of the killer felt a bit rushed, but it's another highly recommended Fincher film. Another superb score by Trent Reznor too.

If you mean the bits with her guardian then they couldn't really have made the film without those scenes, especially if they're making a film of the 2nd book where they become more important.

He is a Hollywood regular - in the sense that he was getting picked and going to get picked for star roles. He was truly brilliant last year - there's no getting away from it. I don't think his stock has risen. I think people have completely forgotten about him. I think Depp and DiCaprio's stock has gone up a lot with them not starring in movies. All the talk is about missing Depp and DiCaprio but Affleck was the one who out-performed them comfortably over the last season (there was a 2 movie period where Depp was a lot better but Affleck was consistently excellent).

Affleck is underrated in the same way Jim Carrey is - because people think they're 'overrated'. After the initial over-praising of Carrey after the Truman Show, he has still been quality but people laughed off claims of him being the best around with comparisons with De Niro and Hoffman etc. He might not be the very best, but he's fucking good. Same with Affleck. Ben was fucking good. Now though, who knows.

The Hurt Locker:
Very good. More a tense thriller than a war film.

Martha Marcy May Marlene:
From what had been said about the film, I would have expected something more substantial. It feels more like an outline of a potentially excellent film. There's nothing wrong with a subtle approach, but leaving everything unexplored makes it unsatisfying rather than effectively enigmatic. Superb central performance, though.

War Horse:
Spielberg is at his best when he makes films that are hugely cinematic, with simple stories/plots. This is probably his best film since Minority Report. It has the usual overly-sentimental Spielberg sensibility, but for what is essentially a horse's-point-of-view fairytale, it works in context. It looks and sounds brilliant too and as with all Spielberg films, the effects are perfect. I can imagine people hating it's cosy simplicity, but if you take it for what it is, it's an enjoyable piece of escapism.

I think there's quite a bit of difference between Michael Bay films and The Hurt Locker. I'm not saying it's as good as Apocalypse Now or Saving Private Ryan (this actually descends into mawkish nonsense at the end), but it's not jingoistic trash. I don't know why people (well Coney and Letters anyway) get so offended by uber-hyped or awards-laden films. That sort of crap is just par for the course in the entertainment industry. Would you hate your favourite book/film/album all of a sudden if it got awards recognition? Just judge the films on their own merits.

A great-looking and sounding piece of fluff. There's nothing to it beyond that. As an average mod once said: It Doesn't Deserve The Hype. Enjoyable enough, but too light to be considered anything approaching a classic.

Chronicle:
A pleasant surprise really. The tricks it uses have been seen before, but it has enough of it's own ideas to make it unique. The plot loses steam and becomes predictable eventually, but it's executed impressively for what is a low-budget film. And better than most of the big-name superhero movies in recent years too.

Cool dialogue and wacky violent shit is worthless without a good film surrounding them.

That's the problem with a lot of movies. Someone makes a great film. People bang on about a couple of scenes, Holywood/whoever make a series of films just repeating and emphasising what was in the couple of scenes so the movie is distorted. Same as happens with 3D. The effects become more important than the movie, just as the selected method of violence or piece of 'clever' dialogue becomes the be all and end all. Still, if the cash desk at the cinema entrance keeps filling up, who cares about quality eh?

Dude! Keanu Reeves confirms to The Independent that the script for "Bill and Ted 3" is finished. “Yeah, we have a script,” Reeves told the British paper. "We’re trying to put it together. It’s a good script too.” Reeves’ co-star in time-traveling misadventure, Alex Winter, tweeted the good news on Sunday: “Script done? Check. We love it? Check. Green light? Working on it!”

No more details are available for the third go-round, but Reeves told MTV last April that Bill and Ted are still trying to save the world: "When we last got together, part of it was that Bill and Ted were supposed to have written the song that saved the world, and it hasn't happened. So they've now become kind of possessed by trying to do that. Then there's an element of time and they have to go back.”

It's been 21 years since the last "Bill and Ted," nearly half a lifetime for the now 47-year-old Reeves, who admitted to the Independent, "I had the classic 40 meltdown. I did. It's embarrassing. It was pretty funny. But then I recovered. To me, it was like a second adolescence. Hormonally, my body was changing, my mind was changing, and so my relationship to myself and the world around me came to this assault of finiteness. It was also the end of the projection of my younger self. I came to the place where I thought, 'I don't know where I am anymore but where have I come from and what am I doing?'"

Reeves was being interviewed about the new documentary he produced, called "Side by Side," in which illustrious group of directors, including Martin Scorsese, David Lynch, Steven Soderbergh, Christopher Nolan, David Fincher and James Cameron talk about the transition to digital film. Reeves is joining their ranks: he'll direct his first film, "47 Ronin," later this year.

Kiefer Sutherland (http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/celebrities/kiefer-sutherland/) has insisted that a 24 movie is still in the works.

The actor - who played Jack Bauer on the Fox drama - told Digital Spy that he is "still hopeful" that the project will reach the big screen.

"We have a fantastic script that I'm very excited about," he said. "We have phenomenal filmmakers that are interested in working with us, as well."

However, Sutherland admitted that it may prove difficult to schedule filming dates for the movie around his new drama series Touch (http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/ustv/s190/touch/tubetalk/a362275/touch-is-kiefer-sutherlands-new-show-a-success.html).

"It's a question of trying to put that package together in time, for us to do it in the break between when Touch finishes and when we would potentially start again," he explained.

Sky1 will air Touch in the UK - the show premieres on Tuesday, March 20 at 8pm. In the US, the show's first season resumes on March 22 on Fox.

Any good?

Yes.

Yes.

Although not a standard family/adventure film you may expect from watching the trailers. More a celebration of film-making and cinema.

That and Hugo are next on my to watch list.

Tintin is just a fun old-fashioned (forgetting the technology) adventure film. Just constant action and big set-pieces. If you like Indiana Jones or The Mummy films, it's kind of like those, but obviously aimed at a slightly younger audience. The animation is also not alwful like similar past efforts like The Polar Express and Beowulf.

Teenage..erm, Alien Ninja Turtles.

Michael Bay has revealed a new origin for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in the upcoming film.

The producer has said that the characters will be aliens in the live-action revamp of the franchise.

"When you see this movie, kids are going to believe, one day, that these turtles actually do exist when we are done with this movie," Bay said in a video at Nickelodeon Upfront posted by Stuff We Like.

"These turtles are from an alien race and they are going to be tough, edgy, funny and completely lovable."

The reptilian heroes are famously known as pet turtles who mutated into anthropomorphic beings after being exposed to toxic waste in the sewers on New York City.

The franchise first launched as a black and white comic book in 1984. It achieved huge commercial success in the late '80s and early '90s, spawning several live-action films and cartoon series and a massive array of merchandise.

Director Jonathan Liebesman (Wrath of the Titans) is expected to helm the Ninja Turtles reboot for Paramount Pictures.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will be released in US theatres on December 25, 2013.

Why not just create a new franchise about some aliens, rather than shit on a fondly-remembered (by all decent people) one? It's not as if the Turtles name will make it the new Star Wars.

Can't wait for his take on Care Bears and Maxie's World.

Michael Bay is pretty awesome tbh

I dont usually give a monkeys on who directs a film as i pay to watch the film and not the director but Bay is as good as it gets. Best in the world at what he does. Never heard anyone who knows a thing about films say a bad word about him

Went to see The Devil Inside tonight.

An absolute shocker of a film.

I don't really tend to critique movies, either I like them or I don't, but I have to say this had me genuinely wanting a refund.

And seeing as Brett Ratner directed Tower Heist, I'm fairly confident the answer regarding that is a "no". But a "yes" for you probably.

Game Of Thrones by most accounts was very good. Can any trusted GW members corroborate that? I need to get around to watching both that and Boardwalk Empire tbf.

So TinTIn will be pretty good then

Never heard of Brett Ratner but Tower Heist has Eddie Murphy and Ben Stiller, 2 of the best comedy actors of all time so bound to be a great film.

Only 10 episodes in GOT first series? After watching Buffy, Angel, 24, Prison Break and Lost which all have 20+ episodes for their first season, it's a bit of a shocker and i'll probably end up watching all 10 in 2 days

All HBO programmes have shorter seasons than the other networks' 22/24 episode runs. Always been that way.

(Buffy season one only had 12 episodes tbf.)

Just finished GoT series.

Not as good as the books but didnt expect it to be.

I have to be honest and say i was left slightly disappointed. It started off a bit slow and it did get better towards the end but then just when im getting in to it, its over. 10 episodes is far too short for these books.

Thats probably my main gripe with it.

As for the actual show, the guy who plays King Robert is pretty alwful. When you see him, all you see is the fat police guy off The Thin Blue Line. Just wasnt convincing at all. Sean Bean was legendary as usual.

Looking forward to the 2nd season in a week or so time

The only character that i didnt really think fitted my interpretation of them was Sansa. Bit mousey looking. Ive seen a preview of the new cast members for season 2. Im not sold on the guy who is playing Stannis. I was hoping they would get the guy who plays the bad guy in Kickass.
