The Woman In Black:

Simple, unsurprising ghost story. But, it's elegantly made and has effective scares for a 12-A rated film.

John Carter:

It's kind of all over the place in terms of plotting and script, but it's more enjoyable than a lot of recent big-budget CGI action/fantasy-fests. Being an originator of modern sci-fi/fantasy probably doesn't help, when on the face of it, it looks like everything from Star Wars to Avatar. But it has some interesting themes hidden within all the jumping and fighting. Also, Ciaran Hinds and Mark Strong are in everything these days.

Just seen they are releasing a sequel to Clash of the Titans

The first movie was absolutely awful.

Yeah, it was quite shit. Another amazingly wooden performance from Sam Worthington as well.

The movie the Hunger Games is everywhere at the moment. Anyone seen it?

Pretty good. It had the potential to be really good, but fell short in some aspects.

It's like every dystopian future film rolled into an easily accessible modern package. Some good ideas, but probably communicated better in other books/films. A lot of the details and scenes seem rushed and the action doesn't seem to get fully going.

Worth watching though, and it's certainly better to have popular blockbusters like this than another explosion/CGI carnival of stupid.

LLOYD Christmas is dusting off his orange tux as the makers of Dumb & Dumber confirm a long-awaited sequel.

Days after the Anchorman and Twins comebacks were announced, director Peter Farrelly revealed Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels have signed for the follow-up to the 1994 hit.

The film-maker said: “We’ve always wanted to do a sequel. Jeff always wanted to do it. We always wanted to do it. Jim was busy, but he called and said, ‘We’ve got to do this thing again’.

“He’d just watched Dumb & Dumber and he said, ‘This is the perfect sequel. Let’s do it.’”

Farrelly, who had nothing to do with the panned Dumb & Dumber: When Harry Met Lloyd, will begin shooting with brother BOB in September.

Finally

First was alwsome

Also sequels to Twins and Anchorman? Whats more, Eddie Murphy will be in the Twins one?

Must be the golden age of sequels what with Wrath of the titans also coming out and the first was brilliant

It was a decent movie. Not sure why it would need a remake. Still they piss about with everything these days - it would be nice if they had the intelligence to do something original instead.

With current cgi and shit, they should be able to make a decent fist of 'The Foundation Trilogy' and it's various novels (now more than 3, of course).

Instead of which, they just dick with existing - sometimes iconic - movies which is pointless.

Stanley Kubrick is one of the greatest ever directors and produced top quality movies. Always worth watching his films (except Barry Lyndon, but everyone has the right to make a mistake).

Among others, 2001, Clockwork Orange, Full Metal Jacket, Dr. Strangelove are some my favourite movies. Most directors don't even come close to just one of those films.

I think "not worth all the hype" can be pulled out here.

I didn't think it was crap, just not as compelling as it could have been, with the cast and material at it's disposal.

I actually thought Alfredson's Let The Right One In was also not particularly substantial either. Sometimes looking classy and having a 'European' sensibility and flair to your direction holds sway over critics too easily.

I've never seen the original TV series. I can't recall them repeating it any time recently. Alec Guinness is one of the greatest screen actors ever though, so I'll get round to seeing it eventually.

The Cabin In The Woods:
About half-way through the film, it feels a bit like a missed opportunity. The post-modern twists and jokes work to an extent, but the two sides of the film don't necessarily merge too well. Then the film goes completely mental in the second half and just becomes a ridiculously over-the-top circus of silliness and blood, very much in the vein of Sam Raimi's and Peter Jackson's early work. Therefore, very entertaining, if you appreciate that kind of thing.

The Avengers:
About as good as you could expect really, with so many story strands to tie together and so many different fan-bases to appeal to. It sags a bit in the middle, but picks up again at the end for some great set-pieces. The films in this Marvel universe have been quite lighthearted (well, apart from The Incredible Hulk) and this seems to have even more of the 'crowd-pleasing' moments, which can sometimes spoil the tone. Strangely, Black Widow appears to have more screen-time than any of the main characters, especially Thor and Hulk, who are underused. Other than that though, it's huge fun while it lasts and when the action and destruction kicks in and with Hulk going apeshit, it's basically every comic you read and every cartoon you saw as a kid blown up to a huge scale.

Oh and Scarlett Johansson is damn fine.... they also had some previews and the new dictator film with SB Cohen looks funny...

There was a silly scene included at the end of American showings. But it seems to be showing in the UK now too. A quick search of 'Avengers post-credits scene' on popular video sharing sites should do the trick.

Captain America 2 is 2014. Some stuff on it here: http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/movies/news/a380996/captain-america-2-has-close-links-to-the-avengers.html

Another Hulk is unlikely at the moment. Although there is a Nick Fury film also planned and other characters that could join the team, they'd probably want to get out another Avengers as soon as possible to capitalise on it's popularity. So 2015 makes most sense. Unless there is a major character they base a new film on, then probably 2016 at the latest.

Ruffalo brought more humour to the role than Eric Bana and Edward Norton. But Bruce Banner is somewhat sidelined really, it's more about just the destruction with Hulk. Unless they do make something more worthwhile in the future.

Dark Shadows:

About five different films failing to coalesce into a cohesive whole and ultimately just spluttering out as a less-than-glorious mess. The bursts of violence don't really gel with the comedy. The comedy rarely raises more than a smirk. The mystery is uninteresting and muddled. The plot is all over the place. Johnny Depp has also given variations of this performance in Sleepy Hollow, Pirates Of The Caribbean, The Libertine and Sweeney Todd and the novelty has probably worn off. None of the other cast members really get a chance to contribute much either. The 70s soundtrack ends up being the most memorable aspect of the film. It's not completely terrible, just a bit of a waste of potentially interesting material. Tim Burton should really try something different. It's all a bit stale. Like seven nine years without an trophy original idea.

Prometheus was pretty good, but lacked little bit focus. It had some interesting ideas, like Power_n_Glory said, but I'm not sure if it all came together as well as it should have. The biggest flaw is the lack of memorable characters. Noomi Rapace was a completely uninteresting leading lady and the rest of the crew were verging on cardboard stereotypes. Michael Fassbender, as usual, was brilliant and by far the best character. Not as creepy as Ian Holm in Alien, but it was perhaps the best aspect of the film that all the central themes were explored through him/it. It started off as an adventure/discovery tale and then turned into a second-rate-Alien knock-off. It would have been more effective sticking to one thing, rather than trying to appeal to Alien fans through gimmicky allusions to that franchise. If the sequel explores some of the questions raised in more detail, it should be interesting.

Needed Ripley, tbh.

I was surprised she didn't pop up at the end for a +1.

She has form recently.

It touches on some good stuff with evolution and intelligent design, science and religion but it doesn't flesh out the ideas and it goes nowhere. But the main problem with it are the characters. They're just flat.

SPOILER ALERT Example, why in the world would the pilots sacrifice themselves in the end like that? It makes no sense considering they've been stuck on the ship during the whole thing and couldn't possibly understand the threat that was down there and if they did, would they really sacrifice themselves like that? No character development.

Black Swan

Quite good I guess but not what I was expecting. Rather disturbing. And that scene wasn't as good as I thought it might be. <_<

Shite ass name but a decent little film. The kids a bit of an annoying fucker but hes a kid and they are all like that.

Also got Safe House and Man On A Ledge

Not seen either but Denzels in the former and Sam Worthington in the latter so bound to be good

Iron Sky

Shite. Really disappointed. A movie about moon Nazis should have been much better.

What do you think is the best fight scene ever, could be real or CG, but depicting a real physical encounter, not lightsabres or some sci-fi shit. Just a barnstorming fisticuff that had you gritting your teeth just watching it. I will nominate 2 i real and one CG but both real fantastic

1 Bourne in the 3rd film, against the Moroccan hit man in tangiers. This was probably Bournes hardest fight in all the 3 films. The Moroccan guy gave him all he could handle. It was great to watch. In fact the Bourne films have some of the best fight scenes overall

2. King Kong (2008) against the 4 T-Rex, CG i accept but incredibly well choreographed and shot. I was really rooting for the big ape. In all of the stress KK was still doing his utmost to keep the girl safe. It was a great scene whit I fast forward to time and time again

Honorable mention also to the swordfight between bond and the korean/british guy in Die another Day. that was a real example of two individuals comsumed with a bloodlust for each other. Heck of a fight

I also love all the Bond fights in a train, even the Roger Moore ones, love the fact that Bond then would always cheat if he couldnt win a fight fairly, like kicking the chap in the dojo fight scene when he was bowing down.

What about yours?
