The Raid.

Watch it.

And Old Boy is quite awlsome too.

And that bit in Drive in the lift. Not sure it's a fair fight, but it's certainly qualifies for the gritting your teeth bit.

Chuck Norris v Bruce Lee in The Way of The Dragon

For the sheer f*ck-off-ness of it all, the fisticuffs between Arnie and Bill Duke in Commando ("No, f*ck YOU, asshole!" :haha:)

For outright stupidity, the Steven Segal v Tommy Lee Jones fight at the end of Under Siege (how on earth does he make Jones release knife?!)

It was basically one of those straight-to-supermarket bargain basket Seagal films that dominates the Channel 5 schedules, but with a big name in the leading role. The script was probably written by Ach and The Wengerbabies on the back of a post-it note.

What about the "single shot" bit (which isn't - I think it's actually 2 shots - but looks like one) which goes from when they smash that guy (Spike?) with a concrete block, run up to the building, get the baby and bring it crying through all the soldiers whilst everyone stops firing. That's the best scene ever. They must've had to reset so many explosives for each take and there's hundreds of actors involved in it. It goes on for about 8 mins.

I think I have to agree with Ach somewhat on the new Spider-Man. From the trailers, it looked like they'd differentiate themselves enough from Raimi's trilogy, but in the end it just felt almost like a remix. Andrew Garfield was excellent and channelled the humour of the comics/cartoons perfectly. I don't feel that any other character was particularly well-developed or overly interesting. We've already had a recent trilogy. If you have to make another one, make something that stands on it's own. All the classic Spider-Man mythologies are present, but only slightly re-jigged. It's all a bit odd. And WTF is a Coldplay song doing in the middle of a Marvel comics film? There's nothing really wrong with the film and the action is definitely better, but it's all a bit of an anti-climax. The ending at least sets itself up for what could hopefully be a more robust sequel.

The Dark Knight Rises:  .

The Batman trilogy has been more of a vehicle for Christopher Nolan to cover his favourite genres and themes rather than a typical superhero saga. The first was almost a revenge thriller, with some Batman mythology thrown in. The second was a crime/gangster thriller with some fantastical characters and set-pieces. The final film was his war epic with the occasional reminder that it was still a story about a man in a ridiculous suit .

The Joker will probably be the defining creation of the series, but the strangeness of Bane's voice married to his physicality and the fact that he's pure, regimented evil makes him memorable. The opening scene and the (underground) Bane v Batman fight are brilliant. Anne Hathaway is good, but feels more like a plot device rather than a character at times. Joseph Gordon-Levitt is excellent and is almost the most important character in the film.

Rises funnily starts off with sequences that are the most slick, funny and comic-book-like in the whole trilogy. Then it becomes something completely different. The ode to heroism and the whole utter despair before eventual victory of good over evil is something that has clearly been coming throughout the series. There are definitely some aspects which could have been handled better and the pacing is a bit off in the second half, but then The Dark Knight had similar problems. There's often too much going on and maybe streamlining it a bit would have been sensible. But when a director is ambitious and goes beyond what you would expect from huge blockbusters, it's hard to be overly critical.

Hopefully they'll wait a while before re-re-re-rebooting it, rather than rush another one out like Spider-Man.

Just seen Dark Knight rises myself, was a bit disappointed....seemed like a large scale re-hash of Batman Begins.......some good ideas and good set pieces. Was surprised about how effective Anne Hathaway was, Tom Hardy was an imposing screen presence however he is always going to be unfairly and unfavorably compared to Heath Ledger's Joker (it doesn't help that a lot of his lines are inaudible)

The room is excellent, Tommy wiseau is easily the worst actor ever, and it's just so damn quotable. "You're tearing me apart Arsene!!"

(edited for dramatic effect)

Well yes it's in the "It's so bad it's good category" so there is definitely comedy to be had.

Still such an awful film.

Written, directed, produced and starred in by Tommy Wiseau

Director Tony Scott has died after jumping off a bridge in Los Angeles.

The Top Gun helmer, and the brother of Sir Ridley Scott, threw himself off the Vincent Thomas Bridge at around 12.30pm on Sunday in an apparent suicide, according to the Los Angeles County coroner's office.

The US Coast Guard said that a suicide note was found inside the 68-year-old's car, parked on one of the eastbound lanes of the bridge, reports the Daily Breeze.

The Vincent Thomas Bridge spans San Pedro and Terminal Island and rises 185 feet at its highest point above the water.

Authorities used sonar equipment to find Tony's body in the murky waters, after eyewitnesses reported a man jumping off the bridge. His body was recovered by a dive team at roughly 4.30pm.

The British-born director was responsible for films such as Days of Thunder, Beverly Hills Cop II, True Romance, Enemy of the State and The Taking of Pelham 123. His last film was 2010's Unstoppable.

He has also executive produced TV shows including Numb3rs and The Good Wife, and directed music videos for George Michael and Kenny Loggins.

Tony leaves behind wife Donna Scott, whom he married in 1994, and twin sons Max and Frank.

Finally saw The Avengers.

I don't know why in a movie about superheroes I found a flying aircraft carrier to be unbelievable.

i read something about this actually that suddenly made it believable. it was an article about how they did all the editing and effects and how the director wanted it to be as realistic as possible and that his idea behind the air craft carrier was that it would have cameras all round the ship taking a constant photo/stream and the rest of the ship had led pannels which the images were shown on therefore creating a realistic invisible ship.

its an idea that actually works and amkes it believable imo

I doubt Joss Whedon is smart enough for that. He is the hack of all hacks.

we were given this interview at uni, it was with one of the editors or special effects people, who talked through a whole range of things like the hulk etc and this was one thing that came up. dont know where its from as tutor just gave it to us

Watched Prometheus last night.

Quite good, would've liked to have learnt more about the mythology of the "Engineers" though.
