Murray breaks and leads 2-0 in the first set.
Brilliant half-volley from Tsonga, Tendulkar taught him that one. Deuce.

Superb from Tsonga, two break points.
Tsonga really does take the pace off the ball incredibly well for his volleys. Great control.

Murray holds, 1-4.
Blimey what a way to win the game that was. As a New York crowd would have it though, "You Still Suck/You Still Suck"
Murray's pub-team hit-and-hopes are landing.
The test will be how he responds when they don't.
So far, so good though.
McNamara That Ghost...
06-07-2012, 03:29 PM
Those shots wouldn't work if he was in the right place to start with, good tactic really.
McNamara That Ghost...
06-07-2012, 03:32 PM
Tsonga is slicing it out everywhere. Too much on it for even a doubles court.

In my expert opinion, expertly speaking I'd have to say tsonga has a good touch for a big man.

Cripps_orig
06-07-2012, 06:03 PM
Also Maccy, this is why I doubted Federer's chances. Here or at any other Slam.
Benneteau's not exactly an up-and-comer (and Federer will probably still win) but he just can't dominate and hit through opponents any more. Not only is the depth in men's tennis getting better every year, every surface is becoming more or less the same. Everything has levelled out and for someone with a quick game like Federer, it's a disadvantage. He's obviously not able to stay at an incredibly high level for long periods either these days.
No Berdych or Tsonga to threaten his half this year, but it won't necessarily have to be someone that good.
:haha:
The Wengerbabies
06-07-2012, 06:09 PM
Henman  That constitutes a 'celebration' apparently..
If I was Henman I wouldn't want Murray to succeed I'm a 'if I can't have it no one can kinda guy' so if after failing myself I'd hate to see Murray win a major, especially Wimbledon. The celebration was put on to keep in line with the disgusting jingoism on the BBC tbh.

I think I agree, if he really wanted to celebrate it wouldn't just be a clap. Can't blame him though either.
Also, on to the final, it's going to be very weird not hearing an (overtly) pro-Federer crowd at Wimbledon.
I think Murray played better against Ferrer and Ferrer played better than Tsonga.
I think murrays got a better chance of winning than most think - including the bookies. Federer is 2/1 on.
Also a surprise to see Murray so emotional at the end. That could be a problem in the final - he needs to stay as cool as he has been recently. Certainly federer won't feel as many nerves having been here so many times before.
6,4,and 4. That's my prediction. Both players will break in that first set, but as suggested above Murray won't be able to hold it together for long after that. He will be out poker-faced.

I completley agree with you there, Tsonga was scintillating at times with his back hand and ferocious ground strokes but he was so inconsistent and racked up unforced error after unforced error...Apart from the second set which Ferrer should have served out....i think he made far less mistakes and it brought out the best of Murray to beat him.
But i defy anyone not to be emotional if they are the first Brit to reach the Wimbledon final in 74 years, and at any rate i would say it was very restrained emotion......he'll never tell us but i think the point upwards was towards his classmates killed by that Maniac Thomas Hamilton in Dunblane.

I'm not emotional in the slightest, alright maybe a little disappointed for Tsonga, but I couldn't care less that a Brit is in the final. Why should I support someone based on where they happen to be born?
I am however ecstatic that Federer is in the final.
I wasn't saying you should be emotional, I am saying I defy anyone to be in Andy Murray's shoes and not be emotional......

Well that's Murray losing then.
I want Fed to win this one and probably cement the record, Murray can win the US Open (he should miss Nadal again).
6-3 5-7 6-4 6-4 to Fed I am saying.
I want Fed to win the Olympic singles too.

No worries equally I agree with your sentiment that there is no obligation to support someone because of where they are native to. I personally have no qualms with Murray, he knows he's an irascible short-tempered dour scot with very little charisma but he doesn't pretend to be otherwise.
Frankly i'd hate to be part of his entourage, because it would take less than a day for me to get wound up by his terseness.....and i can't stand his mum.
But really there are no personalities in the game, Federer has charisma in that he is a very eloquent speaker as well as a fluent polyglot but he's as dull as ditch water.....this is a man who has appeared at a wimbledon final wearing a cardigan. I have enormous admiration for the man though and if Murray fails to win on Sunday, I would be greatly consoled by RF becoming Wimbledon champion for a seventh time.....he's been a great champion down the years.
Nadal is very charming and magnanimous, but again he plays on his humble lad from Manacor background....and I wonder how much of it is genuine with him....i think you need a ruthless egotistical streak to win like he has.
What I find interesting is that Both Federer and Nadal don't like Novak Djokovic and I don't think he cares that much for them either.....Murray is more in the Djokovic camp because those two are good friends....but I don't think there is the antipathy towards Murray.
Yeah I realised that after I posted which is why I deleted it.
My bad
fwiw I agree with you
But i defy anyone not to be emotional if they are the first Brit to reach the Wimbledon final in 74 years, and at any rate i would say it was very restrained emotion......he'll never tell us but i think the point upwards was towards his classmates killed by that Maniac Thomas Hamilton in Dunblane.
I probably didn't explain myself well. I thought Murray's emotional reaction was surprising because he's usually very calm these days. I don't remember him showing that emotion before. Anger, yes. But not the Gazza stuff.
The 74 years thing is a nice headline but I'm sure Murray wouldn't have been looking at reaching the final as some sort of achievement. He has been pushing for a grand slam for the last 4 years and I'm sure his only objective was to win it. Reaching the semi-final seems about 'par' for the no.4 seed. Reaching the final would then be a good effort - you can certainly call it a good tournament for him. But I expected all the pressure to be on him winning and little for him reaching the final (if that makes sense - I do realise you need to reach the final in order to win).
Long story short - I didn't think Muzza would consider reaching the final, in itself, a big deal. MacEnroe ( ) did make a good point however that there isn't perhaps another tennis player around who carries anywhere near as much pressure as Murray is right now.
I saw the Today at Wimbledon highlights again. Obviously they only show the major points and moments but all things considered, Federer probably played a lot better than I thought he did. Everyone was making a big fuss over him and I thought Djokovic was just completely poor. But Federer seemed to play very well in the 3rd and 4th sets - perhaps to his old level. One thing I don't agree with others on is his movement. Commentators and pundits were saying he was moving better than expected. I didn't see that. That's certainly one area Murray has to try to exploit. Although that means he'll go for his cruddy drop-shots at every half-opportunity.

Murray to win a set in a final?
I just want to see a good match. I have reasons for wanting both to win. If push comes to shove then id pick Murray but wouldnt mind Fed winning at all.
But first we have to get past the simple 6-2 6-4 Serena win tomorrow
Everyone who's anyone knows the main event tomorrow is the men's doubles.
I'm a big believer in women's rights. But letting them play tennis is taking it too far.
